SWMBOs people carrier needs to go as she has a new victim

Located Ruislip

good points:-

Drives really well.  Engine and gearbox really good.

EGR and cat gone.  Surprisingly quick.

Removable towbar.

Much servicing (see pics)

Cruise control

Sony stereo with ipod input. You can change disc, select tracks on the ipod with steering wheel controls.  Just needs 20 quid ipod nano 2nd gen off ebay to complete.  I can show you mine working

Leather steering wheel

11 months MOT, and a real proper one where they really do test it.

4 reasonable tyres

No DMF. It has a Valeo solid flywheel conversion

Two spare rims with winter tyres.

Bomb proof and efficient 8 valve HDI motor.  We get 38mpg on short London journeys and 40mpg on longer journeys, and this means at 80mph cos I am a very impatient driver.

It can easily do 100mph for hours on end on the Italian motorway.

2 ton towing limit. In fact it is a brilliant tow car as it has a long wheelbase and hardly any rear overhang.  I have towed a largish caravan at 70mph on the French motorways no trouble.

Interior okay

Parking sensors

Uses no water ever

If you fill oil to max it will do 10,000 miles before it hits min

Power steering fluid needs topping up maybe once a year

No rust

You can get a 4x8 sheet in the back

Fancy thule roof bars

Service not due for ages.

Two working keys / remotes

bad points:-

Most panels dented

Drivers mirror doesn't fold

Passenger mirror cracked

240000 miles

Lately the clutch pedal has occasionally started to stick down.  Foot under the pedal and lifting it restores function.  It is very occasional though.  I have absolutely no idea what is sticking as the pedal is quite light. I am guessing its a slave cylinder or something.  The actual clutch is fine and doesn't slip.

Fancy towbar lever busted so needs new brink swanneck or use a screwdriver to remove instead.  Can still be used safely for towing though

ABS warning light occasionally comes on.  It is the right rear sensor which I have a new one if you want it.  Normally switching off ignition and on again clears it.  It has been doing this for years and isn't getting worse.

Rev counter sticks.  If you want to remove the stepper motor from the dash and relub it will work

Only one interior light works and I think door open warnings not warning.  Clock dead. Probably related.

Locking clip from one headrest AWOL so headrest rests at lowest position.

Many side trims AWOL

AC non functioning.  It holds gas but the actuator coil inside the compressor is burnt out. Also the bearing in the drive pulley whines.  If you get a used compressor and swap coil and pulley, and if you can do this on the car then you won't need to regas. It will cost you 50 quid and many hours swearing to fix.  I used the AC in Spain this summer by jamming the AC clutch with coathanger wire so I know it can be made to work.

There is also something funny in the heater controls.  Ok at lower fan speeds but higher and it sounds like there is gravel bouncing around in the pipes. Then suddenly it clears and the air blows harder.  It has also burned out a blower relay recently so that could be related. Current 40A relay seems to cope.

Webasto heater blows out diesel vapour instead of heat so disconnected.  It needs a new glowplug.

The combination of above three faults makes it a b******* to demist until the engine warms up which takes ages because it is so efficient.

Rear brakes noisy on a high speed heavily loaded stop.  Probably could do with rear shoes or something.

Clonk on left front suspension which no one can figure out what it is.  I think antiroll bar bushes. It handles well though

Status of bodywork:-

Front bumper good

Noise cone good

Front left wing scraped along bottom

Front left door mostly okay but wierd small dent below wing mirror

Rear left door f***ed

Rear left quarter scratched and small dent and trim missing

Rear bump okay but some marks

Tailgate cracked with sheet metal epoxied on inside which seems to work (its a plastic tailgate)

Rear right quarter some paint missing and rear trim gone

Rear right door big dent and trim gone

Front right door okay

Front right wing. Crashed some years ago. Used it to practice rattle can spraying.  Beaten straightish with a hammer and refitted after new wing suffered deer strike

Bonnet has deer hoof mark dents and corner damage so f***ed

It looks aweful and has many minor faults, however, in recent years it has been to Italy and back twice and southern Spain and back this summer.  If I had to get in it an drive 2000 miles and back I would do it and it wouldn't stress me as I would expect to make.

In 11 years of ownership it has only failed to complete a journey once and that was coming back from an injection specialist when I overtorqued an injector stud and stripped it so my fault.  This was many years ago and fixed then by the way.

This is a proper MPV based on bomb proof van chassis mechanicals.  8 seats and sliding doors and not just a fragile jacked up Passat like the Galahalasham crap.

The reason it is being sold is that SWMBO is ashamed of how it looks even though she did all of the dents.  She says it is too big for her though I know that this is not really the problem.

If you buy this as a throw away car it will surprise you by just refusing to let you down.  If SWMBO can't kill it then neither can you.

Someone should buy this and do an Autoshite version of The Apprentice (Aushentice?) and go round picking up gobshites who can't use mobile phones properly. Every now and then we could ring them at 4.00am and film them shouting 'Toosavvy's on the phone, he wants to meet us in Wallsend' or something.

I am actually properly sad to see this go.

We have had it over ten years and it has done everything that we have asked.

My youngest daughter is really sad to see it go for some reason, so far she is refusing to go in SWMBOs replacement.

It has never been stopped by snow, heavy caravans, heat, cold, stupidly long journeys, too much weight, agressive driving or properly bad driving from SWMBO.

It did 2000 miles at mostly 100mph with five people, 40 lites of olive oil, 40 litres of wine, 200 tins of beer and a bicycle in it.

She nicked it off of me because she said lifting toddlers in and out of our Passat was too hard, and then crashed it a million times.

It defended us from a deer that tried to come through the windscreen at 70mph.

It was an absolute weapon on the Italian motorway where it's speed, size and dents were a huge asset.

It even did a bit of offroading when the GPS sent us up the roughest track you ever saw in Italy.

The toddlers have grown up and now it feels like taking a faithful old pet into the yard and shooting it.

I had two of these ( Fiat badged) a 1.9 and a 2.0 HDi when they were 12 months old. Best people carriers of EVAH .

The amount of shit you can get in them with the seats out is only just short of a SWB Transit, driving position is perfect and the right hand handbrake is great for handbrake turns, in fact this combined with lots of weight on the front end makes them perfect for OMGSNOKAOS.

The only downside for me was shit Fiat dealers, no such worries with this baby, I have absolutely no use for it and no space .

Not recommended for Cabbage exploits , the height would put trees at chest level
