Junkman
A neighbour stepped forward and told me she has seen who did it. It were the stereotypical hoodies living further back in the estate. She managed to chase them away, but apparently they came back later. She also reported the incident to the police, which is interesting, since when I managed to get through to the rozzers AFTER TRYING FOR TWO FUCKING HOURS!!!! they knew nothing about it. But wait, I don't need the police. I'll get me one of those juvenile little shits. I don't care whether he was involved,he'll just be at the wrong place in the wrong moment. Spottedlaurel
Really sorry to see this. It was one of the last things I read before I turned the PC off this morning so it's kind of stuck with me all day. Enough 405 estates still going into breakers that a replacement tailgate can be sourced? Is the rest of your fleet parked somewhere more secure? Junkman
Monday morning someone will come and replace the screen. Nothing is secure as long as those piles of shit are alive. But I'm going to get me one of them. paulplom and Pillock
Junkman
Right. I took the opportunity to rectify the Piggo's long lack of any upkeep. It's currently at the Rover P6 Sanatorium at Rudyard Lake, where it shall receive: - New brake calipers, discs, pads, etc. all round, since the brakes were shit.- A new cat named Alyser. The current one got fucked in a manhole casing in a meadow interface at the Stan Woods Memorial.- Cambelt/wapu kit.- Fresh oils everywhere.- Thorough derusting and proper anti corrosion treatment. Which isn't a half inch thick layer of undercoating, btw.- New front tyres. It will then have a bit of a cosmetic makeover. Apart from the recent vandalism damage, there are a few other battle scars to mend. danthecapriman, Dave_Q, catsinthewelder and 7 others
mercrocker
Good work and remedial therapy in my opinion. Exactly what I have done whenever a car I cherish has been violated. I hope you kept all the old parts to stone the culprit(s) with. That way you won't have to actually lay a finger on them. Junkman
carlo
I still contend brakes tend to be a weak spot on these. I always seem to be getting persistent but irritating brake graunches, calipers sticking occasionally. I drove my spare one less than a mile last week and the front discs were smoking and stank when I got back - calipers again no doubt! Partridge
If that was me I know how sad I'd be at the death of the dealer sticker.I had a similar thing happen to my Jag. Somebody got into it, smashed up the cup holder and left it. It mystifies me how there's people who get enjoyment from breaking old things for fun.In the words of my namesake: scum, sub-human scum. Junkman
They don't only break old things. They break things at random.Since this happened, I've been told there is a regular trail of devastation in that estate.Mind you, most of the people living there are decent lower middle class. It's some scum stronghold at the back of it that causes all the trouble. Junkman
Right. 600 odd quid later, it's serviced, has new brakes, cambelt and two new tyres.Needs tracking set, which is a mile out, but the adjusters are seized.New ones on order, for 3.99 each! At the moment 405 spares are clearance sold for Pennies.Might be smart to stock up the bits I'll never need. Junkman
Oh, was it you? Well done! Ebay and Amazon. I just searched for Peugeot 405 in the car parts sections, then filtered according to my exact car and lowest price first.Got me all the suspension bushes and links for not even 25 quid. All of them!Set of shock absorbers 30 quid. Pivots for the front struts 6 quid each.I guess I'll also get me another complete exhaust (69 quid) and a full set of brakes.Track rod ends, ball joints, etc. are also recommended. And don't forget the rear trailing arm bearings, which can be had for a fiver.Set of handbrake cables... I'd love to have a gearbox overhaul kit, but couldn't find it yet. Also check the other usual suspects, like Euro Car parts etc. loserone

carlo
Carlo, do you read this? Naturally. I do a have a Peugeot 405 full (literally) of spares but may stock up on some of the more obvious stuff. Some things are starting to get a bit trickier, exhausts for example, and I'm currently struggling to establish which is the right radiator for my STI auto and whether it's obtainable. Junkman
There is actually only one automatic radiator AFAIK. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Valeo-730577-Service-Radiator/dp/B00D0DNH5E/ref=sr_1_11?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1499335798&vehicle=88-1157-392-2433-2-0&sr=1-11&keywords=radiator
RobT
£107?! That's one of the few drawbacks of running older pez auto chod, I had a similar problem when sourcing a radiator for my Cavalier. Luckily I managed to find one for £40 in the end, a shit quality one but I had no choice.
