I was thinking things over whilst trying to get to sleep the other night (which didn't go down well with the boss as I was on a night shift at the time!) and was trying to remember some of the cars my teachers had back in the day.

I was in secondary school from '81 to '86, and the top car at the time had to belong to Mr Gwyn, the young science teacher. All the girls fancied him as he looked like Nick Kershaw, mullet and all! Anyway, he had a V reg Lotus Elite auto in white with a black vinyl roof, classy. The pop-up lights could never decide if they were half open or half closed, a bit like Salman Rushdie's eyelids!

Another teacher had a Series 1 Jaguar XJ6 2.8, there was a Mk III Cortina 2000E, a Mk III Cortina GXL, a Volvo 144 GL, with leather seats, and a Triumph Herald estate in black to name but a few.

What did your teachers drive? (two weeks' detention for the least impressive list!)

I do remember my primary school (91-97) headteacher had a dark blue MGB GT, whilst my year 4 teacher (who was 24 at the time) had the convertible version.

In secondary school (97-04), the electronics teacher had several SD1s, and the head who was 6'5" or thereabouts often turned up in a Smart!

I'll see if there were any better examples

One of the English Teachers had a brush painted Ford Zodiac, this was about 1999 so he was a shiteist. Other highlights were a brand new red MGF (owned by a total tool so I didn't like MGFs by association for a while) and an Orange T2 camper van.

The only ones I can remember is Mrs Hughes in primary school who had a bronze Maestro HLE and the roof tiles of the school blowing off and through its rear window during the Burns day storm in 1990 and my forum teacher who gave me a lift home one day in her brand new Peugeot 306 around 1993 time, I though the car looked the absolute bollocks at the time.

Oh and the male drama teacher drove a green 70s VW Beetle.

I was at secondary school from 96-01.

The head had a gold jaguar sovereign in 4.2 guise and a black 2.0 Sierra sapphire.

One of the art teachers had a red and white 2cv dolly, which would regularly fail to proceed and shed various bits all over the car park.

The others were a talbot samba and solara, a hillman imp, Ronda 213 and a couple of very rotten metros (one was a van den plas in metallic blue!)

Otherwise it was typical mid 90's fare- late escorts, early focus and fiestas.

The first school I worked in, one of the drama staff had a silver Kia Magentis in resale silver with slushbox and v6 powah...

Art teacher had a Testarossa which he traded in for a Berlingo (in about 2002). Madness.

There was a late, electric blue BGT, totally mint, owned by a physics teacher. And one of the gappies had a very crumbly yellow Spitfire.

Except for that, little of major interest.

The headmaster had a fine Saab that was rusting from the outside in.  He also had a D plate MGB that was just rusting generally.  One of the sports teachers had an HA Viva in that dull green colour that looked alright when the cars were new, but it wasn't.  I remember a Hillman Imp.  The RE teacher had a brand new Vauxhall VX2300 estate in that blue metallic URD944S (I scare myself sometimes, I haven't remembered that number in decades).  That is all I can remember.

Primary school- late 1980s -mrs nightingale Capri mk2 auto in gold, and the head had an early (p or r plate IIRC) SD1 in light blue metallic. Perhaps one of the first through the new paint shop as all the laquer had fallen off

Secondary school - mid 1990s- quite a few mk2 fiesta xr2s, all of which seemed to have busted locks ( popular with Manchester joyriders ) Mrs vickers had a white renault 5 gt turbo which was one of my faves. A home economics teacher had a mint mk1 escort, which seemed almost extinct back then, which was in poverty spec, the apple of my eye.

Nothing of any great note except my junior school teacher had a red Manta GTE and sweaty armpits and my comp German teacher 'fatty Foster' who was an arse had a Reliant Scimitar which may very well have been brown. Also we had a teaching assistant who was an outrageously flirtatious MILF before anyone ever new what a MILF was and she had an E36 3 Series. Back then of course this was unbelievably posh even though it was most probably only a 318i. Oh yes, and there was also a 1970s Beetle in that orange they did. No idea who owned it though.

These days all the teachers I know drive white ALDIs and huge SUVs and not a decent bit of chod or a CND badge amongst them. Stupid aspiration. :(

History teacher had a 1951 Mercedes 170S (in the Seventies, so everybody thought, he was a bit weird). He also had a Vespa.

Art teacheress was Frau Hotter and she definitely was, including her orange Renault 17.

English teacher had an OMGMGB, what else?

Potions (chemistry) teacheress had a DKW F102.

Physics teacher looked like Jason King (honestly) and had a 2CV.

Latin/Greek teacher had a Velosolex, so he was the envy of EVERYONE.

Primary school mid 90's two teachers stick in my mind. Miss Richards had a mk1 fiesta ghia in bronze and Mr harden (no sniggering at the back please) had a l plate lada niva. Secondary school from 98 to 2003 a few more stick in my mind. Mr lindsay had a daft bowl haircut and a nearly new 318 compact,Mr foster had a near mint f plate volvo 740 gl auto in blue. Still had that till last year when he had a stroke I found out other month. Mr Thorne had a f plate 240 estate manual,Mr healiss rocked around in a g players corrola executive along with very loud hardcore music playing, Mrs gregory had a early ssangyong musso which was part chopped for a fiat punto in about 2001. The best was Mr amar, my form tutor. He should be on here. Moroccan fella, mad as a box of frogs. He had a rover 213,rover 216,numerous citroen bx's in varying states of decay,a x plate rx7 that only just ran,he nearly bought my dad's 2.2 gti peugeot 505 too but ended up with some form of daf variomatic.

Only one I can remember for sure was Mr. Smith, a sort of general-everything primary school teacher who definitely remembered the war. He was very much a slippers & cane type, he drove an Invacar but then changed it for one of the Mk 1 Astras that had a boot instead of hatch, very odd choice.

He had a funny cushion like a donut. He was the target of an upside-down thumbtack prank. The yell probably haunts classmates to this day.

Oh, no, wait - another one springs to mind. Mr. Knott, a CDT/woodwork/tech teacher. His son was the same age as me, we were friends.

His dad drove three shite cars I can remember, and seemed to have that wilful, muesli & hairshirt type of mentality. First I recall was a maroon Landcrab. It looked rough, but that's all I remember. Next was a Renault 16 with electric windows; that had very soft, grey seats with a sort of diagonal pattern and he drove it damn quickly. It was replaced by a maroon Sierra 2.3 diesel which always looked about as filthy as a deltic.

His son earned an unfortunate reputation for piping up with "When I get excited I fart" during a sex-ed-style bit of biology. Not sure he ever got a date after that revelation.

The only one that sticks in my mind from Junior school (81 to 88) was Mrs Woods who had a brand new Mk4 XR3i cabriolet in white with white roof.

My Dad was considered the coolest as at the time he had a Renault Fuego 2.0 TX in black (TUE 53W).

Secondary school had a few more interesting motors (88 to 93), I remember the English teacher had a green MG Midget but was always pissed and he smashed into the same wall on 3 occasions just round the corner from the school. CDT teacher had a red Lotus Elan and the head teacher had a bronze Jaguar Sovereign

My very pretty and later pregnant maths teacheress had a husband working at a VAG dealer who bought her a brandnew Passat in 1978. It was a very nice one in Santosgrün with a then new Diesel as a GLD. Strange noise for a Mk1 facelift Passat and slow as a dune for sure but great looking car.

No idea what they drove. I suspect that they lived in the school and just appeared each morning. I simply cannot recall what was in the school car park. I do recall however, that Mrs Powell had great nipples and they would often pop up quite unexpectedly at times despite her going to great lengths to tape them over now and then (obviously not whilst in lessons sadly).

I was at secondary from 86 to 91 and bloody hated it. Only enjoyed learning experiences again when I studied* education for four years at uni. I even found out a few things.
Back to the main point, my DT teacher had a bronze W plate Porker 924, my art teacher (who was an ageing hippy) drove a 2 door mk1 Escrot 1300e in metallic violet (the one I'd want to own now).
The best bit, to a petrolhead teenage lad at least, was the school owned two old decrepit early 70's Bedford coaches. One was a spares vehicle with no front end, and the other was very tired.
My best memory out of five years stuck in that crap hole was when the 'good' coach was needed to transport about thirty of us to the local pool. When Mr Evans (owner of the 924, incidentally) found the battery was flat, he wasn't concerned. Cue thirty teenagers pushing the big bugger along the flat, so he could then bump start it down the sloping exit out of the site. I can still taste the cloud of shit the exhaust kicked out when the grumpy old girl fired into life. We were all well impressed that we'd helped start the thing.
Wouldn't be allowed now, etc etc.
