chaseracer
This is not a good time for Midlands-based AS large-ish Mercs. First, Lord Sterling's E280 gets banana'd by a knobber doing a U-turn without the benefit of mirror or brain. Now, my ex-Dollywobbler 300E is sadly beyond (for me, anyway) economic repair and I have to draw a line. That said, there are lots of good bits on it. It had new front wings a while ago, the interior is very good, the opening panels are good and the tyres are nearly new. It has an MOT until March and actually runs really well, known issues aside. I'm giving the Merc owners among you first dibs on anything you might find useful before I contact the specialist M-B breakers. Also, if anyone wants the whole thing, I'm open to offers. All funds will go to the GET THE DYANE BACK ON THE ROAD YOU USELESS EEJIT appeal (founding trustee: FPB7) Inspector Morose
Skizzer
Such a shame it's borked. What a difference a week makes - I was thinking what a fine and solid barge this was when I had a go in it at Cholmondeley. May your soul waft happily along the never ending Autobahn, old friend. cms206 and chaseracer

Junkman
Yeah, what's wrong with it (apart from being a silver Mercedes)?
Richard
I believe its an ATF leak that will involve much dismantling to rectify.
chaseracer
^ This, and rot that is worse than feared. Fixable, but not within my skillset or ability to pay.
gadgetgricey
How bad is the leak.Pissing all of it out every 100 yards, or a top up every week. Just wondered if someone could use it till the MOT runs out.

RichardK
How much for the whole thing? I'm guessing jacking points, subframe mounts and/or front chassis legs? ATF leak should not be too hard to fix, in fairness. Can't remember if these use the radiator-embedded style of cooler, but it's going to be somewhere the oil gets to travel away from the transmission to be cooled... chaseracer
Cheers, Richard. Suspension mounts were done by DW, front legs seem OK. Jacking points a little crispy, but biggest body issue is the offside rear arch which needs complete replacement. Andy FPB7 knows the old barge pretty well - have a word with him. I'm not too far from you if you'd like to take a look.
richardmorris
Do your headlamp wipers work?Does your sunroof have the pop up wind deflector? Also need top securing clip things for the headlamps.Do you have the original car manual wallet? Yes - just need new connector on offside. Don't know - sunroof was on the list to fix! Assume so. OK. Yes.

I'm not too far from you if you'd like to take a look. I'll sort some time out - I'm interested in front wings, bonnet, front indicators, mechanical bits as it's a 300E of a similar age to my 300CE (ride height looks correct, so maybe those springs would replace my chopped ones), possibly bits of metal to cut from the rear light/valance area where mine needs repair (offside - not sure if W124 and C124 are the same there), some interior trim parts like the black plastic where the light switch and ignition socket live, backing plates for the headlights, those sort of things. Haven't got properly in depth on the CE yet to see what else I might need, but it's got 258,000 miles on it so I expect "lots". chaseracer
michael1703
Would be gutting if someone wants to buy the auto box, you take it out,see a 99p seal has gone and FFS I'd sell as is, someone brave* will take it on chaseracer
richardmorris
Well I'll have a few parts mentioned if no one wants it in one large silver lump.
AnthonyG
Do these not go for export? After all, they are hardly going to worry about the Mot or the rear wheel arch rot in Ghana. And as for the auto box, they'll just swap another one from one of the 14 wrecks outside the taxi garage!
Lord Sterling
Nooooooo! Not a good time for Midland Mercedes owners. I'm glad I had a try out of this car. It was a real honey, it caused me many sleepless nights after mine got banana'd. I drove mine around the yard today to help start the other Rovers and move into new position. Junkman
The space between the T and the 3 is too big, so it wouldn't have had a chance in hell to pass an MoT anyway. It's a miracle no nuns and kittens were killed yet. chaseracer, Lacquer Peel, cms206 and 1 other
Jerzy Woking
I feel a bit like a vulture, but if the car has air con fitted, I'd quite like the heater fan (it's the motor with fan vanes on each side). Also the chrome radiator grill, and probably a few bits and pieces I cannot think that I need at the moment.....
