Too good to be true....?

Has anyone else spotted this in Practical Classics? I was tempted to pop my Japanese car cherry with this as I've always liked them & it looks a good'un but as far as my parents are concerned I already have cars coming out of my ears, despite the fact I've had the decency to keep one of them at a different location! As I can't do anything about it myself, in the true spirit of Autoshite, I thought I'd share it with you in the hope that someone here may snaffle it up instead....Datsun Bluebird (910)1983, 4 door saloon, 1770cc5 Speed, alloy wheels, 24,000 miles, one owner, excellent inside & out, garaged all it's life* £175** Hants01202 872276* another reason I think it'd be better off with someone else because if I took it on I'd have to use it as it would become my new daily & it would probably deteriorate which would be a shame.** a misprint?? I have fond memories of seeing these as minicabs in places like Bedford when I was a kid. There were a few of them about seen recently in Malta.Would love to give it a whirl but just don't think it's realistic :(

Reg - it's already been snapped up and advertised on the Datmans forum and listed on ebay with the usual tiresome threats to banger race it if no-one is prepared to hand the new owner a straight £825 profit.

If you're signed up you can see threads about it here...

and a later one here...

The Datlads are clearly getting fed up with the seller who seems to have mucked the first winning bidder about and already received suitable feedback.

You would have been a far more suitable owner, used it daily as it intended. Would have been nice.

Here are the ebay listings...

Going once...

..twice...

...thrice?...

...well, this time perhaps?

No not a member, although would have signed up if I'd ended up with it. Wow, so that was a real non news event - I wonder how long the mag has been out - it is the March edition, so I assumed it was fresh on the shelf! Not that I'm surprised the car didn't hang around, just shocked that the car's already at the next stage of being sold on again. Oh well, I can stop wondering about it now. Pity.I know it was obviously being undersold by the magazine advertiser but it is a shame that the next person can only have it for a king's ransom! What's it worth? It was a good find though & the greedy bugger now it's custodian obviously knew that straight away. Wonder why the eBay sales keep falling through.....suspicious. Seller seems a right one! :? Interesting how it always seems to finish on the £820 mark or slightly over....

I've been following this one with interest on datman whilst trying not to get to drawn into the whole banger racing debate again  Regardless of that, the guy who bought it appears to be a moron of the first degree and out for as much profit as he can get for the car. That's not just sour grapes cos he got there first, it's just annoyance at the way he's gone about it.I'm still a bit dubious as to why it was 175 quid in the first place if it's as good as he says it is. To be honest if it ends up round the oval it'll be a shame but it won't be the end of the world. Just would have been nice if someone decent had got hold of it first.

Won't it? It's exactly the sort of car (the condition, not the type) that doesn't deserve that sort of fate & if it gets bangered it'll fly in the face of everything that's said about cars only reaching the banger track if they're good for nothing else! I can hack end of life vehicles going out in a blaze of glory but I can't hack a decent, or even perfect condition car being killed just for the sake of it! :shock:If it's a case of 'pay this much or the car gets it!' that sounds little more than blackmail & if we either can't or won't pay that much out of principle then there's nothing that can be done except try & put it out of our minds....

My old manager had the estate version,& it was almost like the end of an era.It was one of the last Datsuns before they changed to Nissan, one of their last RWDs,& his was one of the last 4-speeds.I'll just add,I'm a big Banger Racing fan,but totally agree with what MrRegieRitmo said.

OK maybe I was a bit harsh :P The thing is I would love to save all manner of cars but it's just not practical or possible sometimes and we have to accept that some slip through the net. If someone goes down the blackmail route it's difficult to justify stumping up for it in my opinion especially with that level of greed and there are plenty of other excellent cars out there on eBay and in Classic Car Weekly. 910 Bluebirds are fine cars but not down to the level where there aren't others to choose from quite yet or as desirable as some other cars. If it was something uber-rare like a Tagora or maybe a 610 Bluey then yes it's bordering on criminal and I'd do all I could to prevent it. You all know I like old J-tin but the amount of cars of all makes still out there is making me more philosophical about it as I get older. If it had been a decent price in the first place then he probably wouldn't have pounced on it straight away. It's unfortunate but there's not a lot you can do. I'd recommend the lovely 1st Gen Accord that is currently on Classic Cars for Sale at £400 to help you get it out of your mind!!
