Every time I forget that I want a Toronado along comes another ace picture of one. What are I like?

Excellant thread. Any pictures of Chod in Northern snow, or are winter beaters all modern Volkswagens?

Very impressed/jealous.  I worked in Gothenburg for a couple of months some years back and spotted almost zero chod bar the odd 80s Volvo.  Clearly I was looking in the wrong places - it was winter though, so maybe they were all hibernating.

Wotcha Shitters

Went back up to Bastnas cemetery yesterday. Misfit Jnr has a photo project at school and wanted to use the cemetery for it - I did nothing to encourage him in this. It was his own idea and I was merely helping/driving. Thought we better go now before the snow arrives and the place becomes inaccessible.

Anyway 1200km round trip later here we are...

I've tried not to post stuff you've already seen (except the VX4/90)

Just as a warning if you're not into this old car necrophilia then best not waste your time reading the rest of the post - its just a lot of photos of cars up trees!

Welcome to Bastnas

Wow, just ......wow. A lot of those cars look like you could get them back on the road with a few weekends work.
In 30 years time i don't imagine anyone coming across a field full of aldi a4s, binis and vectras.
Quick question, the blue convertible further up the page, is that half a car dumped or a full car buried? ( hard to tell on a phone screen)

More spots for you

Every Tuesday evening during the summer there's an old car meet outside a village about 10 miles from here. there' s three fields - one for European cars, one for American, one for bikes. Its free and if the weathers good its packed....and its free of course.

The result is a wonderful mix of 'classics' and 'old chod'

Not normally one for exotica but this week a guy turned up with a Lamborghini Islero. A couple of hundred made in 1968/69 so a rare beast.

No not been to that one, but it sounds a good. I might take go up next time. TBH there's loads of shows all the way through the summer months pretty much everywhere and Eskilstuna is a fair trip from here. The next big event round ths way is at Sofiero near Helsingborg. To give you a idea of the size of the old car scene here, you may, if you are into your old American cars, have come across a small marque called Kaiser Frazer, set up after WW2 and lasted to around 1952/53. They didn't sell too many and very few survived.....at Sofiero five turned up with the Swedish owners club!

IMG_5832.JPG

But before Sofiero, its the English Car Care open day in a couple of weeks  :)

Today was English Car Care's Open Day - ECC being the place you go to around here to keep your British car fettled, repaired, restored etc.  Their scope is anything from Jaguar XKs and Bentley Continentals, through to Rover 75s and 25s. They are top blokes, and they always have interesting stuff on the premises.....proper enthusiasts

For this exercise I'll not cover the 'top end' of the market, but I will still go with quality rather than quantity. Take a look......

The latest works car. A 1978 SD1, the year BL packed up and left Sweden. Consequently didn't actually leave the showroom (whose?) until 1981. Looks fabulous.

Not really 'English', a Simca 1508 (Chrysler Alpine) with the most orange interior in the world. Still, sold as successor to Hillmans so it does sort of count. Even longer since I saw one..at all. They must be almost extinct

I'll echo others' sentiments and say that this is a wonderful spotting thread and it does make me wish I'd taken the time to visit more of Europe before upping sticks and leaving. Estonia was about as close as I got to Scandinavia. Never mind, I can live vicariously through your photos!

Apologies also for not keeping up to date with this but spotting threads do drop off the main pages relatively quickly, tbh. I'm no hater of modified or performance cars but it is great to see such prosaic models like that Marina being restored. I've read about the Raggare scene before but how far does the lifestyle go? I'm guessing it's a bit more in depth than those who don a leather jacket when they go and ride their Harley, for example.

Being a Raggare is an exciting lifestyle choice often influenced by, and I quote from Wiki, "low education, no money, low-brow attitude to sex (maybe come back to that one later!) and a love of 50s/60s American cars" because, to paraphrase, they have large bench seats onto which you can fit all your raggare mates, they are (were) relatively cheap and they look brilliant!

The ones I've come across have always been friendly in an inarticulate sort of way and often looked aesthetically challenged.

Still, better than being Head of Human Resources at Ikea I would have thought.......

A colleague at work said "Why dont you try Mr Hodgson as Prime Minister and Mr Cameron as England Manager..maybe that will work out better for you?"

Anyway.....
