I haven`t driven a Xantia for a year, and that was my old R plate estate. It been at least ten years since I have driven one this old so hard to say what it should be like!

 

I`ll change the fronts anyway and see what happens

Depending on what sort of ride you want depens on what spheres you fit - VSX/Activa spheres give a firmer ride than say estate spheres fitted to a saloon - personally I always went for comfort and used estate spheres on my saloon.

Dont negelct the accumilator sphere either - check for the duration between clicks. 5 seconds and its time for the bin.

No progress on the Wolseley I'm afraid but my sisters car is unwell and everyone is stumped

 

She's had it 7 years and its been great but lately it cuts out, runs rough and rich and had a misfire, but sometimes it is ok

 

She has spent at least £1500 on it in the last year, it has had pretty much everything replaced and she has given up on it so done the sensible thing and bought a Gt4 instead.....

 

In pretty sure one of the things that has been replaced is faulty but I would rather buy another one to swap some bits off if anybody knows of a cheap one?

 

Can't be much wrong I'm sure, any common faults these have?

It's also had a secondhand wiring loom fitted off a car that was running fine

I was just going to Sydney the same. Mine failed test on massive emissions readings. Changed lambda and all good. The wiring on the sensor end was shagged, so it could be wiring further up the loom on this.

 

Just a thought.

 

If you need any ECU stuff or MAF or other electronic gubbins, give me a shout. I'm breaking one of these and have all the engine related stuff still on the car.

Right!

It's not that bad really, certainly not much worse than mums old Almera

 

Shame though, quite a bit a the rot has progressed more than I thought it would but its my own fault i didn't mean to leave it outside for two years

Found quite a bit off filler in it and some dodgy welding so hope its not going to upset me too much, I'm just going to fix what I have poked so I don't become too disheartened with it as it wasn't meant to be as restoration, more of a tidy up!post-19511-0-90189800-1450128146_thumb.jpg

 

I'm going to paint the lower half in either white or cream as I have bought a red and white interior to go in it

 

The main issue I have with it is that is has been badly painted previously in a darker colour, at some point I shall have to repaint the whole thing properly but for now I'm not going to worry about and scabs above the chrome line, but I did put some polish on a part of it and it came up reasonably okpost-19511-0-43565400-1450128426_thumb.jpg

Good luck! BMC stuff is ALWAYS worse than first poke might suggest but apart from the outer sills what can be seen doesn't look too bad...What's it like behind the rear doors where the wheel arch sits? Never struck me as a good bit of design that...

 

Well worth doing, though - I reckon these are great cars and getting fewer by the year. When you consider what ZB Magnettes go for now, its not a totally different car to those with the added attraction of Minor bits for practicality. If you have one of the early two-tone interiors that's going to look the bollocks.

 

I know it aint my life but I know where I would be chucking money out of all the cars in this thread!

Hey Tom! I can certainly relate to your Mum's fondness of old Nissans. Ma_Sterling has a K11 Nissan Micra first registered in 1998 on an S-plate:

She's had the old thing since new, originally purchased at Reg Vardy in Great Barr (now a Lidl) in 1999, it's a sort of lower mid-spec 'ally' model, sunroof, immobiliser and...er...that's it...to be honest I'm surprised they bothered to put wheel trims and a spec badge on it, they didn't bother with the badge on the lower spec Profile.

 

I've done a fair bit to improve its spec using OEM parts found in higher-spec Micras in scrappies such as rear speakers, floor mats, rear passenger door bins, OEM floor mats etc... I've spent £££s keeping it straight and it is the most reliable motor I've ever known, easily outliving the utter shit I've bought and driven.

 

Ma is now starting to lean towards a newer car, BUT, the Micra will be staying with us as it has seen us through thick and thin.

I agree! Just really like these little Wulzys. I don't suppose I would turn my back on anything else I own, now, either.

Looks no worse than a lot I have come across...Really weren't going to do much better than that way they were designed!

LS, the Ally comes from the Japanese adverts for these which featured a cat. The key even had a cat on it.

Glad to see the Justy sorted. Tear in the interior was like that when I got it. I've got a spare key for this still!

Nice one! Didn't know that. All the bumpf I have about the UK-spec Ally (which I have but isn't much, in fact, it's only one A4 card) doesn't allude to this at all. Mind, Japan does have its own funky domestic specs which we never got.

 

Might have to see if I can get some uncut Ally Cat keys ;)

We have a 2000 W reg 'Inspiration' in the family

 

All I can see different about it is orange patterns on seats

 

Currently owned by the sister in law, previously by my Mrs and bought from new by their grandmother

 

All its ever had is brakes, exhaust and tyres and it just done 100,000 miles

 

Bit scabby on body though

Not touched the Wolseley sorry.

 

Thought I would introduce the heirloom...

 

The mother in law bought this years ago. Can't remember when but she paid £1000 for it and it was the cheapest 306 I had seen for sale...

It's currently on 253,000 miles and on its original engine although it's had a couple of axles

 

She never intended to sell it but unfortunately she passed away in October, only 63...

 

So my other half ditched her Freelander and now runs this, I think we will always own it.

 

Much better than Freelander but the neighbours must think we have fallen on hard times!

 

Was making some funny noises so have had a look and the crank pulley is barely hanging on, so will order one in the morning.

 

The other thing I have done today is change the steering wheel. The original is falling to bits and I've offered to change 'your manky steering wheel' but MIL was quite attached to it and wouldn't let me for some odd sentimental reason

So now its been modernised to be like a later Pug, it has an airbag that doesn't work....

Its nice to keep something like that, holds the memory I s'pose. Always regret to this day not buying my Grandads old Metro when it came up for sale years ago....My Gran got rid of it through the trade as she was never one for sentiment and it re-surfaced after she had passed on.

Thought I would introduce my latest motor....

 

Given to me for free as a spares car.

 

It's a diesel non turbo automatic

 

Have had a good look at it today and despite appearances it isn't bad at all

 

The auto selector isn't quite right and it needs a small bit of welding for the MoT but apart from major laquer peel issues it is actually quite tidy.

 

Filthy inside but will clean up well

 

It would be a shame to break it up I think so I will test it and run it for a bit as I need an economical winter car

 

Oh and it has a Bosch pump and the cambelt was replaced a couple of years ago before it was laid up!

Think it will make an ideal winter hack if I can live with the lack of power, it makes my Escort van seem fast!

 

The only problem really is the body. It's straight and not rusty but the laquer peel is so bad on it that it is quite an eyesore. I like ZX's. I think Citroen got it spot on. Couldn't you give it a light sand to remove the peeling lacquer or would that make it worse?

 

I had a Kia Sedona 2000 reg with a badly peeling bonnet, so I paid a mobile paint guy to buff off the laquer and polish up the paint underneath as I was selling it - it did work, but I didn't watch him so couldn't say exactly what he did :?

Some people will think the only reason you're running around in ruined antiques is that you've got loads of cash because you're Old Money.  Low digit personal plates and a gigantic dog kept in the car at all times would seal the deal on that one.
