This dogging wagon which was full of wob belonged to a customer, he wanted £750 for it which wasn't bad, it's one of the earliest I've seen

I hadn't seem Harry this year, I'd thought the worst as he must be 90 odd by now and I'd been thinking about writing to him and then he just turned up

IMG_20160421_121827_zps2vynhusw.jpg

He'd been having wiring niggles which he has been working through

IMG_20160421_120709_zpsthn8kfnt.jpg

I asked him how he knew how fast he was going?

IMG_20160421_115856_zpsd3go2fni.jpg

He replied "I look on the back seat"

Harry turned up yesterday for 4 new tyres for his car, he was backing out of my workshop and despite me shouting and banging on his car, he managed to reverse into my rover p4

Over rider hit over rider and did what they meant to do, not like these modern plastic cars.

It made me wonder how long it had been since a 1954 and 1958 car had been in a car accident?

I should have some photos of shit I've done to add when I can upload them.

I had a visit from the legend that is Harry in his 54 brush painted Riley, he wanted me to book him in for front wheel bearings, we had a chat and he drove off slipping the clutch as he revved it to about 5,000 rpm.

The phone rang half an hour later and his clutch had gone just as he got to Diss, 31celcius and he's stood in the sun in a woolly jumper peering into the engine, I've struggled to find a clutch but should have one next week.

Now some progress on one of my cars, my 1958 Rover P4 60 had been pushed up against the workshop wall looking unloved,it was more mobile than a VW camper that I needed to take the front beam out of, so I swapped the p4 out from its position.

The Rover has been on my ramp overnight for about 6 weeks so I've been stealing the odd half hour at each end of the day to do something.

The chassis was de rusted and painted with poor 15, the fuel tank was steam cleaned and painted and joined up to a new SU fuel pump, I'd fitted a new exhaust previously as well as new wheel cylinders/flexis and pipes, the master cylinder I'd had resleeved was leaking so I took that off and re faced the end cap and copper sealing ring, brakes were bled and I ran it around the block to test, a bit of welding to the front wing bottoms and it looks presentable from 30ft through rose tinted specs

IMG_20160921_181938_zpsmhjab7b5.jpg

I've done about 200 miles since Sunday,it's been used for my daily commute and trips out, I nearly stacked it on Tuesday as I was driving to work and thought I saw smoke in the footwell, I wasn't paying attention and put two wheels down a ditch and got airborne and then when I landed had no power
IMG_20160921_092835_zpsgdxzavyu.jpg

The battery had shunted and the terminal had touched the body shorting the battery
IMG_20160920_102348_zpslkinykte.jpg

A bit of 4x2 fixed it temporarily

I've got this moggy in for some work,

IMG_20160921_172855_zps5keh9uvs.jpg

I'd visited the owner as he was having running issues and was sure it was electrical, I popped down to his with a timing light and some spare coils/rotor arms and condensers I keep and it did seem like an iffy coil initially but I then thought fueling but it had a brand new carburettor so I popped the float bowl top off and stuffed some blue paper towel in and it was like treacle, got the float chamber spotless, ran it again and it ran fine then started playing up. I took the top off again and it was red with rust.

3months later I find time to do the job, tank out, new tank in.
IMG_20160921_172942_zpsgi3cedbr.jpg

Remove drain bolt from rusty shitty tank
IMG_20160921_173036_zpsbjnaxkju.jpg

Someone interrupted me and I lost the drain bolt, turned the workshop upside down and then decided I'd do something else, got home that evening and found the drain bolt in my pocket, next day went to fit drain bolt

New tank doesn't have drain bolt fitting....... TWAT

No old crocks today unfortunately, Dodge Ram 4.7v8, wouldn't rev above 1800rpm

Ran on 3 out of 8 cylinders, tested all the coils but they seemed ok,supply to coils ok

Plugs were all red, new plugs fitted, dropped tank, found muck in tank,6 gallons of clean fuel and a bottle of injector cleaner and it redlines now

The tank was mahoosive

IMG_20161018_105536_zpshs54r6kp.jpg

Tank was roughly 5ft4 long, I ran a facet pump off some jump leads to empty it

IMG_20161021_135501_zps8mhxuzd9.jpg

This is the fuel pump

I managed to get a couple of hours in on my p38. These snazzy schrader valves fit on the push fit pipes to the air bags

IMG_20161023_173626_zps3qdthdp8.jpg

Pressurising them individually found the osr airbag leaking, I'd bought some spares and set about changing it.

They are secured with R clips but unfortunately the top one snapped and I couldn't get the broken bit out, as the airbag was buggered anyway I chiselled the top off

This is all the access you have

IMG_20161023_164843_zps3l2bkwya.jpg

IMG_20161023_165450_zpstrsep4ik.jpg

Blurry picture showing the R clip

IMG_20161023_165534_zpsprmkzdvf.jpg

Still had a leak so have temporarily fitted the schrader valve in the wheel arch while I get more nylon pipe

IMG_20161023_173651_zps9pvmeqj0.jpg

It's bit bodgetastic but until I've built a proper workshop I don't have proper facilities or tools at home, at least I can drive it again now

Work has been a bit springy lately, lots of moderns snapping springs

DSC_0196_zpsnolwstkj.jpg

On the fleet front.

Rover P4 is in regular use, the fan belt is still hanging by a thread as I haven't found time/too lazy to change it.
DSC_0181_zpsukfa9q8d.jpg

The rover had a misfire the other week, I was just leaving work and thought I'd spend 30 seconds cleaning any muck out of the sediment bowl, that was a great idea after a long day as it's just starting to rain because the rubber seal would not seal and after turning the glass, turning the seal numerous times and then nicking the seal of my other cars to find they're slightly bigger and then attacking them with a grinder, I bypassed the filer and just pushed a bit of hose on temporarily*

DSC_0180_zpsbxqq3xhc.jpg

I got my jag x300 back from being abandoned on a customers drive since November, it had decided to break its spring whilst inactive, that was fun to change and I managed not to lose any fingers changing it, it's always had a few clonks and possibly the spring had at least one break that I'd not spotted before as it was broke in 3 pieces and the smallest break was very rusty

DSC_0190_zpsn0dgnt3g.jpg

DSC_0205_zpse4zscfba.jpg

Id mot'd it and been kind on the exhaust blow as it was quite loud, the DVSA man gave me a surprise visit and gave it a good going over and declared that because it's a 4 litre with a twin exhaust that it was a fair advisory, so the soundtrack remains the same .

The wings are still rough as arseholes but I've gaffer taped them smooth and painted the tape the same colour as the car so it looks legit from 25 feet

DSC_0209_zpsyyd3xr0r.jpg
DSC_0213_zpsgbppkmse.jpg

DSC_0209_zpsyyd3xr0r.jpg

Mk10 jaguar still not on the road yet, I've got some new exhausts to go on but all the manifold studs were shagged so I've got to helicoil them
DSC_0166_zpsuemdfrrs.jpg

Sherpa sport: i fixed the clutch, it starts and drives and everything works but I'm scared to MOT as I may sell it, I'm going to take it for a test somewhere else and argue that it's a borderline pass, pictures soon, it's hanging

P38 still working, air suspension has stayed up for 5 whole months!, slight misfire and needs balljoints for its impending mot

New beetle: still running fine,

Scimitar: roadworthy but need to fix osr indicator

Ford Thames 400e: minor update but big progress in a sense, I cut a piece from a scrap panel and had a trial fit, still lots to do but it felt like a bit of progress

The guy who owns this has a house in France and his plan is to drive it to France and leave it there and then drive the other 205 he has in France back.

I failed it on a dozen items,I wouldn't drive it to the end of the road!
