wuvvum
Picked this li'l beauty (?) up today. I've always quite liked these things for some reason, and this one has an engine that's basically a souped-up Perkins Prima so it should be pretty economical. It certainly goes well enough for a diesel. It's an SD so not especially posh, but it's got electric front windows and a sunroof, which is good enough. It's got a broken indicator/light stalk, and my attempts to replace the stalk with a big old self-tapper were not successful as it's a bit of a complicated stalk with bits that move in and out inside each other (as the actress said to the bishop) so all I succeeded in doing was turning the sidelights on. Unfortunately I was then unable to replicate what I'd done so I couldn't turn them off again and eventually resorted to taking the fuse out. So it looks like I might have to have a bit of a fiddle with the wiring tomorrow (after I've attempted to fix the rear wiper linkage on the Camry - it's just not the same with only one rear wiper) and see if I can rig something up until I can get old of a stalk. Still, it seems to run OK, it did the 60 mile drive home on the dregs that were left in the tank when I picked it up, and it's tested till June and taxed till the end of May, so for £187 I can't really complain. Spottedlaurel
Sounds a good buy! Get hold of a replacement stalk from a specialist breakers, somewhere like... http://www.roversparesnorfolk.co.uk/ Quick glance at their site shows they're currently breaking one or two 600s. What have you done to Camry's rear wipers then?! Good to hear that it's still in use though. Past 200k yet?
wuvvum
What have you done to Camry's rear wipers then?! Good to hear that it's still in use though. Past 200k yet?Dunno what happened - I switched them on yesterday and they moved up about three inches and stopped. I got out and went to give them a little help and something snapped, and the nearside wiper (which feels as if it's partially seized) stopped altogether while the offside wiper started up again twice as fast as previously. I'm going to take the trim off tomorrow and see if it's fixable. Mileage is now 199,910, so shouldn't be long...
r.welfare
These things have a pretty good rep, always quite liked them. How are the rear arches? If they are OK, the rest of the car should be...
wuvvum
How are the rear arches? If they are OK, the rest of the car should be...There's a bit of grot on the trailing edges along the top of the bumper (NS is worse than OS) but I've seen a lot worse. If it's not lobbing it down tomorrow I'll have a proper look and see if there's any hidden horrors, but to be honest for what I paid for it if it keeps going till the tax runs out I can throw it away with a clear conscience (or sell the engine to a Land Rover owner for double what I paid for the car...). Milford Cubicle
What a steal, I really like these 600s too, but I think they missed the mark a bit by having to share so much with the Honda Accord - cramped interior, short-travel double wishbone suspension, over-light steering etc.At least they managed to make it look a lot prettier than the Accord. How does the diesel perform in the 600? I've only tried it in my old 220 and 420DisDo you reckon you'll be able to sell it to "OMG THERE ARE NO MONTEGOS OR MAESTROS LEFT TO NICK ENGINES FROM" crew? This updated Prima has quite a bit of electronic control to it

Split_Pin
Thats a pretty nice buy. I've always liked these, is it just me or are they actually a lot bigger than they first appear??They all seem to have that obligatory scab at the trailing edge of he rear arch just below the bumper - just do what every other owner seems to to and bosh a shiny sticker over it, bonus points if its a'Max Power' one from about 1998, like someone local to me did a few years back.
