Good luck with finding a good one for a reasonable price, I've only ever seen them going for strong money recently.

I very briefly (like 2 months!) had a 3 litre when I was 19 - cost a fortune to run but it had to be done as it was so cheap & remarkably good conditon.

(Yes, I did grow up with the Sweeney on TV before anyone says it)

Yes, I grew up with the Sweeney too and had a chance to buy a very nice 3.0 Ghia when I was around 20 but couldn't scrape up the £650 at the time so I'm trying to find one to fulfil a teenage dream (now I'm 56). It doesn't have to be mint (although that would help) and I'm prepared to spend good money on the right car - if it needs restoration then I'm prepared for that too. Fingers crossed someone here may be able to help me.

The mk1 and 2 Granada's are great cars, just a shame most seem to have been destroyed. I managed to get my mk2 estate from a racer before it got stripped.

I know of a yard near me that has at least one mk1 saloon, there may be another in there too, aswell as a mk3 Cortina and there was a mk2 Granny saloon too last time I looked. They would all need restoring though. I've no idea if they would be for sale or not, they've been sat in there years.

Best of luck finding one!

Stunning cars a shame that most have now gone.  They (like all 70's Fords) command a strong price, decent ones appear to be around the £5000 mark now.  Worth trying the banger community (extra Autoshite points for saving one) they may be able to provide a project.

Your best bet is to join an owners club thats where there the good ones will be:

Did someone mention The Sweeney?

Not just bronze ones they had other colours too

I've joined the Granada Guild (even though I haven't even got a car yet) and will be going to the AGM later this month. I've seen the other two sites but the 1234 club website hasn't been updated since 2014 and the other hasn't got any working links or useful content so maybe it isn't even up & running.

Did not BL supply the cars for the early programmes, but there was some sort of falling out which led to Ford supplying the cars?

I think that was The Professionals, Doyle and Bodie had a TR7 and Dolly Sprint, whilst Cowley drove an SD1 in the first series .

The Sweeney was a Granny fest from the start, although in the original one off drama ( Regan ?) Jack was driven in a MklV Zodiac.

I think this was 'The Professionals' BL had the contract to start with, I'm sure they used Dolomites instead of Escorts and Capris and Jags instead of Cowleys Granada.

There was a falling out and Ford got the job afterwards until the end of the show.

Edit: beaten to it!

Was it SD1s then and not jags?

He may have used a Jag, 37 and 42 used a P6 in a couple of episodes, but his main car was a Tumeric yellow 3500. I think it was the same car used by Steed in the New Avengers.

I'm sure EssDeeWon of this parish has or had, some connection with this car.

Mk 1 prices have gone up - decent ones make £6k now, a project will cost around £2k

About two years ago there was on ebay a yellow pile of rust with a gt steering wheel and badges. It was finished and only good for the remaining bits of trim. It went for over £1k as it was a consul GT.

Certain parts, mainly panels, are difficult to get hold of.

I Would love one but I fear I have missed the boat.

I almost feel like I'm on a mission from God and absolutely won't be beaten - I'm also looking for any parts in anticipation of finding a car so if anyone has any new parts available or good second hand body parts such as wings etc. then I would be more than grateful to hear from you.

A 2 litre car would be easier to live with.

The essex has a nice sound but is thirsty and when it shits itself it is not a cheap proposition for a rebuild.

A perana would be nice.

I'd have to dig them out of my lockup (and therefore meed quite a lot of notice) but I will have a box or two of assorted spare parts that came with mine.  No panels though, it's all small stuff and I make no promises for condition or even content, as I've forgotten what's there myself.  A small donation would enable you to collect them from me.

Eddy's Mk1 sold a couple of years ago. He imported it from Cyprus.

That might be something for you to think about, what with strong prices for Mk1s in the UK, it may be cheaper (if not a little harder with all the associated paperwork and waiting time) to import from from somewhere like Cyprus.

I'm not adverse to finding a RHD vehicle in Cyprus - finding one could certainly be a problem - I couldn't even hazard a guess on where you would start - any ideas?

I'm in the Lake District.  As for Granadas in Cyprus, they seemed to start coming out of the woodwork a bit as I was leaving!  I have a contact who may still have a 2.0 manual he bought for restoration, that was brought in from UK at about 5 years old.  Want me to ask?

Yes please if you wouldn't mind - I'd be interested to see how much it might cost to bring one over from Cyprus.

Yes, Series 1 was BL, after that Ford. Reason was tha BL refused to just give them the cars for the whole series hence in series one the three of them are driving all sorts of BL stuff from TR7's, Dollies, to Rovers. Plus apparantly they whined like babies if any car cme back with the slightest mark on it which when you consider the nature of the series, this is realistically going to happen.

Ford on the other hand just gave them the cars for as long as they wanted and didn't get pissy about their condition, effectively writing off their value against the benefits of TV exposure. Hence the car continuity between episodes in series 2-4.

BL just didn't get the concept of product placement - prime time advertising on ITV (when ITV was actually a great station unlike the dogshit it is now)  at 9:00 in the evening, FOR FREE! Hello? Anyone in BL's idiot management at home? To clue you all in about how much that costs,  today a similar single slot in a commerical break is thousands of pounds!!! (& can be 10's of thousands). Ford got it, maybe that's why Ford is still around and BL aien't.

Mine cost six thousand euros, but before you have a heart attack, that was in a 40 foot container with another car and all my worldly goods.  Sending a running car as ro-ro deck cargo can be done for under a thousand, I'm told.  I'll be able to get better figures for you later.  OTOH if you fancy going over and dealing with the whole business yourself, I can put you in touch with the right people, including accommodation and a hire car.
