Following a damning MOT test, my mothers Peugeot 405 GTX TD estate is soon to be broken for spares - we are keeping the engine and gearbox but most other parts will be available. It is white, and most body panels are in good shape - all electrics work including mirrors, seats are extremely comfy and have virtually no wear and tear, Brakes WERE good until the rear load valve seized up, both infa red key fobs work perfectly.Shame it has to go really, i took it for a final spin the other day - and even at 179k it feels tighter to drive than my 306.Based in West Sussex

Plus the fact that the previous owner fitted a gearbox to it that has some screwy ratios - so it's not very economical.

We would have gone ahead with repairs, but the MOT tester said it was getting quite rotten underneath, and just bought an 'Executive' estate with the same mileage

Of that fail list, the most expensive bit is the load sensing valve (they are susceptible to failure due to their location) - the rest is pretty straightforward, and usual 405 "consumables". Oil leak will be a rocker cover gasket no doubt. But if it's rusty underneath, I agree it's time to walk away. Can't think of any parts I need for mine, other than a new headlining, but that would be a bugger to remove and collect really!

Got the load sensing valve done on the replacement 'Executive' and it was an expensive job - all the pipes sheared off in the process and some had to be re-made.Oil leak was the rocker gasket, changed a couple of months ago but plenty of oil left down the back of the engine! If you think of anything, let us know - not in a rush to strip it down.
