Motorbike 4 sail

I've decided to sell the Cagiva and put the money towards something a bit more sensible for commuting on.

It's a Planet 125, S reg.  It's MOT'd until October; I have no idea what the mileage is as it's had a replacement digital dash, but it supposedly had an engine rebuild a couple of years ago by Cagiva specialists Mito Magic (I say supposedly as there's no proof in the paperwork, although everything else the previous owner told me about the bike has been accurate).

Good bits first:  It's a big old bike for a 125, especially compared to some of the modern skinny-tyred Chinese "sports" bikes.  It's a two-stroke, it's derestricted and it's Italian, which means it goes like the clappers - I reckon you'd get the ton out of it on a long enough stretch of road.  It also handles very well (the suspension setup is quite trick for a small bike) and it has a mahoosive brake disc on the front so it stops well too.  It has an aftermarket alarm and immobiliser.  All the electrics work OK, which can't always be taken for granted with an Italian bike.

Less good bits:  It's not immaculate by any stretch - it's a 16-year-old bike.  It's not a heap either though.  The engine has a rumbling noise from somewhere, mainly at low revs - don't know what it is.  I would hope it's not a bearing this soon after a rebuild.  It could be the starter or flywheel as the starter motor makes a right old racket when engaged.  It doesn't seem to be getting any worse though.  The fuel gauge feature on the digital dash isn't connected up, so you just have to keep it topped up.  The fuel cap isn't entirely watertight - I put a bin bag over the tank when it looks like rain, but ideally the bike could do with being stored indoors - which I don't have the space for at the moment.  The chain is getting towards the end of its useful life.

It still starts / runs / rides absolutely fine, and has the potential to be a really nice little bike with the ability to piss off much larger machines on the right roads.  It's not a CG125 though - it's not a bike that will take kindly to being abused and neglected.  It needs fully synthetic two-stroke oil, spark plugs are not cheap (although at least there's only one of them), you're never going to get 100mpg out of it and it'll need more in the way of maintenance than a Japanese bike.  Also, like most highly-tuned two strokes, it's hopeless at low revs.  It doesn't splutter or bog down as such, it just has no power at all.  At 50 in 6th you can wind the throttle wide open and it'll stay at 50.  At 70 in 6th you wind the throttle open and it picks up its skirts and buzzes up to 90 far quicker than a bike this size should have any right to.  When you're in the right mood, it's brilliant.

I'm asking £500 for it, which is f***ing cheap for an MOT'd and running one of these.  The only reason it's so cheap is that it might need money spending on the engine at some point - I can't tell if anything is actually amiss with it without taking it to bits, and that's about 187th on my to do list at the moment.

Bollox.

I'm trying to get my spending under control so the fact you are a gazillion miles away is sort of useful! Still trying to recover from Phoebes attempt to bankrupt me but I could be persuaded....

Good luck with the sale mate, should think that will fly away.

If it was near Derby or Miseryside I might be looking at divorce.  I have a full bike licence, but haven't been on a bike since 1988.

My first shite purchase. Or rather, my first purchase through Autoshite. I hope in the not too distant future I will make some four wheeled purchases.

There will be no collection thread - looks like I won't be fit enough to collect it for a few more weeks yet, although wuvvum has kindly offered to deliver if the wait is toolong to bare (which it already is!).
