Drives beautifully- suspension is sublime

Engine is faultless, pulls cleanly to the red line.

Auto box and driveline in good order-selects all gears smoothly and kickdown works well.

Interior is in very good condition, leather is in great shape.

Electric seats fully functional

4x Electric windows all work

Rear picnic tables

Cruise Control works

On board Computer works

Stereo works

5x matching Daimler alloys with good tyres and centres(4x)

 

Issues

Central Locking not functioning (doors lock fine manually)

Heater/blowers intermittant

sunroof sealed (replacement seal supplied)

Various dents and rust patches as shown in photos

Gearbox could do with a new support

Rear bumper requires straightening

I also wrote this to reflect the joy of pootling about in such a fine car..

 

1993- the excesses of the Guards Red Porches,and house brick phones is just a memory. Replaced instead by the unrelenting Grey of a Major government in the midst of a confidence vote. The economy was sparking, glinting with the hope of a return to growth..

 

Against this backdrop of uncertainty and caution, resplendant in Red Metallic paint shone this Daimler xj40 Sovereign. Chosen by its owner as the very epitome of refined good taste, it calmed the worried mind and soothed the fretful investment fund.

 

Drinking in the long, sleek flanks is akin to a bloody good G&T- confidence inspiring with a warming linger. Cast your eyes over its monstrous bonnet, marvel at the beautifully rouched grille and boot trim. A cad buys a Jag, gentlemen drive Daimlers.

 

Sink into the supple leather seats and become cocooned in their warming embrace (facilitated by a deft touch on the heated seat switch), position yourself just so by the wonder of electric motor. Survey the acres of veneer and leather that surrounds you, and reminisce of your first time in the Bullingdon club- sheer sophistication laid out in car form.

 

Fondle the J-gate lever, much as you would the bolt on your rifle, and whisper to the filly that you'll be spending a most pleasant afternoon together in the back.. Champagne flutes placed on the rear picnic tables plus the privacy blinds should assure a pleasing engagement.

 

First though, you must summon the aj6 4.0L 24valve powerhouse forth. A flick of the wrist sees it settle to an eager idle. Selecting D on the box gets the lithe Daimler down on its haunches, ready to pounce at the prod of pedal.

 

Startling to speed like a thoroughbred, you pound ever faster forwards, gunning for the limit. Once there a swift setting of the cruise control gives you time to mull over the quality of the ride. Bumps? You've heard tale of them, especially from that buffoon Sebastian down at the Polo club. But then again, that is his fault for buying one of those vulgar Bavarian panzers rather than the regal and refined royal conveyance of your choosing.

 

Wafting rakishly towards your destination you key the computer display onto the dash- 23mpg is most pleasing, and considerably better than the carb fed monstrosities from Mercedes.

 

This is Living! Daimler, the stuff dreams are made of

Hmm.

 

Does he want a swap with a Volvo 940? Obviously I realise he will, I'm just being polite in asking.

 

I have never worked out though, what's the difference between a Daimler and a Jaguar XJ40?

I shall posit the question.

 

Re the difference it is a combination of breeding and picnic tables
