Due to an Hdi model becoming available, it is time to shuffle along the workhorse;

 

It's a decent trim level, Remote locking, electric windows and tables on the back of the seats etc.

 

It's a DW8 engine so I don't think it'll like Veg.

 

It's had a clutch and two cambelts done before my ownership, and I've replaced both rear wheel cylinders, both front springs and given it a good service.

 

It's done 166k but really doesn't look or feel it.

 

The only negative points I can think of are:

Dent in RHR wheel arch

Windscreen damaged (outside of swept area)

Rubber trim above rear door loose

Only 1 key 

I have farted several times on the driver's seat.

Nb; I threw those wheel trims over the nearest hedge.

 

MOT until Late Feb, £800 or near offer.

 

This is a cracking little motor and was going to be RUF but I cannot pass up the deal I've been offered on the Hdi.

Do the rear seats fold down on this like a Renault Kangoo? I've got the perfect engine for one of these here but no spare money at the minute, shall watch with interest.

Yes they do...infact it's virtually the same rear suspension as a 405 estate. Having owned my own Hdi for a decade now I absolutely love it. However I can't for the life of me understand why they didn't make the rear seats as easily removable as they as did in the Picasso.

Stock Dizzler units were 90BHP in DW8 and HDi flavour.

They did (briefly) do a 1.9 Pez in 109BHP flavour but HDi's can be chooned up to about 110 safely, 120 with clutch slippage.

 

At this point its putting out 117BHP and can say that it does move like a scalded cat and with shit rubber on it is interesting* on wet corners

The fact that a Picasso is struggling to tame 117hp tells me all I need to know about a Picasso that I didn't know already.

As cars go its not that unpleasant. Mine suffers with buggered (clonking) droplinks, buggered (clunking) rear subframe mounts and el-cheapo rubber on the corners which makes handling fun and eventful. In a straight line its rather fun especially at the traffic light grand prix ( coming from a Micra the novelty hasnt worn off yet) The turning circle would make the QE2 proud and the interior and yes (Steve Earwig, yes) the electrics are made of cheese. Brie to be exact.

Other than that its not bad, I can get 5 in it with luggage comfortably and being in banger territory I dont care if it gets bumped.

 

Possibly a hedge beckons...

Thought these suffered with cream cheese rear subframe bushes the same as the ZX/Xsara saloon and my bloody C8 is going the same way too. Plenty of stuff on a Froggy EV2 forum about the C8/ EV2 rear subframe bushes. One bloke made some out of a pair of shoes which he reckoned were better than the stock ones. Sounds like a pile of old brie to me but who knows with the Froggies, who knows.

Yeah as I say we have never had an issue with picasso axle mounts. They are similar in design but not the same as the zx ones. I'd be checking the trailing arms for play... we even had one snap a torsion bar whilst full laden!

Our 1.8 picasso was about 115/120 bhp and that went ok,not great on fuel and very wobbly in corners. When it went to garage for a clutch as he lifted it up in the 2 post ramp the back end twisted,something to do with rear end rotting out. That would explain the woeful ride. I bought it when I had just come out the hospital to get in and out easy but wish I took someone with me who could have got under it properly. My dad has a 2.0 petrol auto and he said it can be interesting in the rain.

I honestly think the biggest problem with the Picasso is the usual ownership base. Most I see are piloted by dressing-gowns-at-mid-day-driving-to-the-Spar-for-ten-L&B-with-their-kids-who-are-skyving-off-school types.

The interior will be full of fag ash and sick and the passenger side rear door and wing will be stowed in.

You'd think but they are actually disappointing I'd imagine the later 1.6 16 tu would be a better bet. If you could find one that is.

The 1.6 tu16v Berlingos do indeed bomb along very nicely especially unladen. Rear axles are pretty robust too on these and my own 2.0 hdis axle is clonk and creak free after 160k so far. I have always been intrigued by the Picassos handling seeing that it was based on the 306/zx platform..and I could only come to the conclusion that Psa deliberately doctored the chassis limits in keeping with its "mpv" role. I've always been interested to see how one would drive with a few choice mods in keeping with say 306 gti6 strut and spring settings.

Found the service book earlier;

 

Car is currently on 166k,

 

Cambelt kit, aux drive belt & clutch kit fitted at 151381 miles (book stamped & receipt enclosed)

Interim service 157974 miles

2x Front springs, rear wheel cylinders & service at 163k (Unstamped as muggins here did it in his lunchbreaks)
