Ohh superbDo want one of the illuminated Fiesta signs found in dealers' windows at the time - used to pass one in Edinburgh daily circa 2004 but of course did squat about obtaining it and the place is probably now shut. :roll:I'm going nowhere btw!just experiencing a spot of online schizophrenia.keep eyes peeled on the Jersey spots thread as I'm going to do a Marty and resurface under a different username. :)

very cool, facts abit wrong about the polo but hay hum...

I think they were quite positive about the other cars considering they're Ford employees trying to tell dealers how to sell Fiestas! And the Polo was pretty spartan, still lots of bare metal and unpadded trim inside on my mum's 1985 model and until the GT arrived, the performance was terrible. All the advertising material is great though, and the crappy cardboard 'car crowners' and 'interior decoration' (dangly things from the rear view mirror to you and I) are true shite. Wonder if it's the same Ghia they've used in all the shots or whether they had a fleet of top-of-the-range cars? The ones they're encouraging dealers to hand out to has-been hacks working on the local rag for a weekend :)

Given that choice, I think I would have gone for the Uno.Nova - UghFiesta - ExpensivePolo - Expensive + Spartan and SlowMetro - Fat MiniSamba - Hmm Maybe, but diddy boot5 - Designed in 74? (I had 5 of them, but not brand new :D )

Does seem like they're struggling to criticise the Uno. Fiesta's economy doesn't fare that well, certainly not best in any of the three categories. Also, Ford omit to mention that Fiesta was 3dr only.Has to be said I'm no great fan of the Mk2 Fiesta, or Mk3 for that matter. But that is a fascinating document!

Neither am I  It was one of those tempting things you see on ebay forr 99p, put it on a watch list and forget about it, then bitch when it sold for 99p  I have a 3 foot square Sierra ghia poster heading my way now aswell......In fact had a good run recently - car styling mag for £3.60 posted

I used to drive a Mk2 Pop plus some years ago (it was not mine, I hasten to add.. belonged to the place I worked). I found it a reasonably pleasant thing to drive. Top end was 85mph but it'd do it all day long. A bit basic and plasticy feeling but competant. I've never driven a Samba, Nova or Uno so can't comment on them but I've always found Metros pretty unpleasant to drive and would certainly have the Fezza over one. I haven't driven the R5 enough to comment on yet but it's certainly comfortable with a very good ride for a small car. They make no comparison to a Pug 205 I notice... wonder why?

Excellent piece of proganda! Interesting reading and illustrates the hard sell Ford perfected. They fail to mention that the car was a mildly reworked 1977 design and as Eddie mentions, the complete lack of not only the superior 205 but also the Nissan Micra, both of which did consistantly well in tests. I imagine that even without this POS/dealer guide the fleet markets would have picked the Fiesta above most of its competitiors.

I was about to say most of that fiesta would have been designed in 1975...

Anyway, here is the one I had back in about 1997...these would have been taken just after I fitted the 14 inch XR3i wheels and the lowering springs..

It was infinitely better to drive afterwards though.

Wonderful stuff Mr Elphick, we used to get all this sort of gumph in our design class at school which should have been renamed "Ford Recruitment outpost". Most of the parents worked in accounts or HR at the Warley head office and a few of us followed suit. Every 17 year old who passed their test got a Fiesta from Mummy and Daddy at colossal discount (I got a clapped out Renner 5 - kwality!). The Ford insurance used to cover all family members and you havent known jealousy until you see a mate drive to school in a new Sapphire Cosworth. But bunking off down to Southend in a fully loaded Scorpio was class! Ah, 1990, great days!

My Cousin continues the family Ford relationship and works in R&D at Dunton. I think he spends his days testing stuff to destruction. Cool job! I'll have to ask him if he gets a bonus every time he breaks something
