2000/W Micra 1.3 Auto 3 door, MOT Sept, 59k miles, £450 RG26

My uncle has just dropped off his dad's Micra for me to sell, as he's hanging up the driving gloves at the age of 85.

The chariot of dreams in question is a W-reg Micra Profile 3 door hatchback in Intense Blue with the desirable 75bhp 1275cc 16 valve engine/CVT automatic gearbox combination. He's had it 9 years and bought it off a lad from Hong Kong I used to work with. Before that it started life as a Motability car. I have the V5 and two keys.

Exactly 59,150 on the clock and I've got a fairly full history with stamps and/or receipts at the following dates and mileages: 3814 (April 01), 8199 (May 02), 11185 (Jan 03), 34469 (Oct 05), 43387 (Jan 07), 45900 (Jan 08), 50703 (May 10), 53705 (Sep 11), 56849 (Aug 13). I've just ordered a set of filters (fuel, air, oil) and spark plugs so it will be serviced again before it's sold. It had a new water pump and aux belts in July 2010 at 51k. Timing chain on this one I believe.

No record of the transmission fluid having been changed so I'll report on the colour and smell tomorrow after I've driven it and taken some pictures.

There's an invoice for a full set of Firestones at 42k miles in 2006 which I believe are still on the car; I'll check for cracking of the sidewalls tomorrow. I've got the service book but no owners manual sadly.

Also every MOT since the first in 2003. The current one runs to 1 September, the mileage was 58,032 at the last one and there were no advisories so draw your own conclusions about the probability of a pass next time round.

Bodywise I will take pictures tomorrow but it looks straight and rust free in the usual K11 Micra spot (rear sill into rear wheelarch) and I couldn't see any rust topside anywhere. I will report on the front crossmember tomorrow. There is a fair old scuff on the front nearside bumper corner which I will try to tidy up, also a strange little dent on the edge of a boot lid where my great uncle used to get it stuck on the garage door! Old people, tcch. I'll have a go at straightening that gently with a hammer and dolly tomorrow. Oh, and somewhere along the way it has gained a set of nasty aftermarket wheel trims.

Specwise there really is 9/10ths of naff-all fitted to this car, it has power steering, tinted glass and a rear wiper and that's your lot. No electric windows or central locking. It does have a natty looking CD/radio of unknown provenance complete with a case for the detachable fascia.

Bottom line is this is a nice little low-mileage automatic with PAS in a striking colour so if anyone's mum or nan is after something simple to drive and run, you could do a lot worse I think.

Car is located just outside Basingstoke in the evenings and weekends and central Reading during the week if anyone wishes to view.

Better photos to follow once I give it a damn good clean.

Genuine mileage, no warning lights.

Windy windows and the usual late 90's vomit inducing cloth pattern. Clean with no rips. Will need a vacuum and the Werther's Originals wrappers emptying from the ashtray. No lighter on this one! A real big engine/low spec sleeper, this. Stereo is a JVC.

I like the colour actually. You might just be able to make out the ding on the leading edge of the bootlid.

I've checked the tyres and they are a matched set of Firestones. I'd say there's 4mm of tread on them but will check properly later. You should be able to make out the scuff on the front bumper corner; there's also a tiny crack on the bottom edge of the front bumper and a very small ding to the trailing edge of the nearside rear wheelarch.

Bootlid ding removed with gentle persuasion from a cloth covered G clamp. However I have found a little bit of rippling on the driver's door. Usual giffer stuff. Will go round with a touch up pen and tidy up the worst of it.

Driving report - this thing GOES. Oh, it's not proper fast, and don't forget my regular drive has 118bhp to move 1800kg, but this is really, really nippy. You just point and shoot. No funny noises from the box or PAS, brakes are good, gets up to temperature quickly. Some clown has done the tracking lazily so the wheel is off centre when you're going straight.

No lighter on this one! A real big engine/low spec sleeper, thiattachicon.gifs. Stereo is a JVC.

Two of the easiest upgrades - lighting for fag lighter socket is taped up by the radio - plumb in a generic one for a couple of quid off eBay for phone charger ability.

Wiring for rear speakers is behind carpet on rear offside in the boot (near lamps) find a parcel shelf with speakers as they are rather good and it makes a big difference.

Might be a while before a good valeting session and better pictures as the mother-in-law has been taken ill. The little Micra has racked up nearly 100 miles today on errands, often running at full throttle as I attempt to give it the Italian tune up it sorely deserves, and it's been excellent. In fact the only thing it struggled with was accommodating my brother in law in the passenger seat, but then again he's 6'3" and 25 stone.

My six year old daughter loves it and wondered aloud if "all cars in the eighties had wind-up windows". She also keeps asking for Kiss FM on the wireless but thankfully we are outside the transmission area.

Speaking of transmissions, the CVT fluid is at the right level on the dipstick, a nice cherryade colour and doesn't smell burnt. Also, the front crossmember looks and feels solid as a rock which is good.

The bodywork has rather more giffer dings and scratches than I first thought, but I am hoping a session with a suction cup, touch up pen and buffer will improve matters. It's by no means terrible but it's not showroom by any stretch.

Yes indeed. I think the car weighs about the same as the warhead that is it's namesake, hence why it feels so damn fast to me.

Seems overkill to be servicing this again as it's only done 2500 miles in the two years since it was last done, and the oil is still golden - but what the hell, the service kit (using AC Delco filters and NGK plugs) is only £15.95 delivered...did I mention it's cheaper (<1549cc) road fund licence as well?

Sweet as! Exactly like Ma's little Micra:

Great little things, Ma's Micra has soldiered on for years, she has had in since about 1999 and so far has broken down once and was once garaged for a year. It asks for nowt in return and is not complicated loke the Rovers and Mercs I buy. Ours is now lime a family member.

CVTs feel a bit odd to drive but thats down to personal taste rather than actual fact. I like autos but like them better in larger cars.

Bits for these are quite easy to get, there are thousands of these things on the road still and you will always find one in scrappies. This car is screaming for some OEM bits to be chucked at it, I can probably lay my hands on a set of floor mats and probably wheel trims, wheels look to be 14". Skinny tyres are GR8 in OMG SNO KAOS.

The "Profile" was one of the lower spec facelift Micras, no sunroof, no cigarette lighter/SatNav plug in, no central locking or powrr steering. The good thing about these Micras is that most of the loom for added items are there, in Ma's Micra, I've managed to easily plug in rear speakers, A-pillar tweeters and a cigarette lighter/ShatNav plug in.

The 1.0 16v is pretty nippy when asked so I'd imagine the 1.3 would be even better, though coupled with an autobox probably won't be as much "fun".

I love these cars so good luck with sake and hopefully maybe it'll be a regular on here.

This Profile definitely has PAS, Mo, but not a lot else.

Wheels are indeed 14" (tyres are a rather unusual 175/60R14 but Firestone Firehawks were only £29 each back in 2006, according to the invoice). How much are you asking for a trim and mat combo, with postage?

Right, in between various personal commitments I have managed to get the mop out and given this a damn good cleaning.  Also a slight price drop as (1) the dings and scrapes are worse than I first thought and (2) it's now on Gumtree at £495 so I thought a 10% Autoshite discount was in order.

So let's start with a virtual walkaround:

The last photo shows all the warning lights - these all go out like they should.  Giffer damage ahoy, in closeup:

The driver's door is the worst bit really, I reckon knocking it out from behind would make it much better but I don't have time.

Soz Welf, only just caught up with this thread. I don't think I'd have been able to lay my hands on the mats/trims until this weekend or even next. Ho hum, it's sold now.
