Dropped the Rover off in Glasgow the other night, the production company are paying for the windows to be tinted for its scene in still game so no doubt it will look totally shit, not that it can really get much worse.

I wonder if we'll be able to stick it on eBay as the still game dogging Rover?

Had a minor issue when leaving Glasgow, one of the rear tyres went flat and the wheel brace was too thick to fit the wheel nuts with the alloys that are currently fitted so had to drive it for a few hundred yards to a petrol station to put air in. Thankfully it went back up and made it the rest of the way home.

I fucking hate this car.

Great to see the forum slag is still doing her business, even thought there's now a Sheeran level of ginger showing. What happened to the bonnet, and did you check their pulse afterwards?

So, the Polo runs really badly. When Rainagain was round the other week welding his car I managed to break down a mile down the road thinking I had possibly run out of fuel. I stuck more fuel in and managed to limp it back up the road but it still didn't run very well.

I noticed that there were no fuel filters under the bonnet, the original mechanical fuel pump has been replaced by an electric one so today I bought a couple of cheap filters and stuck one before the pump and another before the carb.

Yes, That's black!

And here's the one to the pump

Also black!

I used the pump to empty the tank into a container.

I'm thinking the best option will be to replace the tank especially if I'm going to have to go to the hassle of removing it to clean it out but if I can clean it without removing it I'll give it a go.

Anyone got any tips for flushing out a filthy petrol tank?

What the blazes? If it was dizzle it would probably be bug growth, as that fills up the tank with manky black sludge, what does that to pez I have no idea. Perhaps someone tried to run it on coal.

It was caused by the tank going rusty then being fiberglassed over and coated in underseal.

Some more progress made on the Polo. The new petrol tank arrived on Thursday so I fitted it and put some fuel in and it runs fine without cutting out. I fucked about with the carb and timing when it wasn't running right before so no doubt I'll have to make some adjustments now that it runs without cutting out.

I picked up a set of Frontera steels for £15, painted them green and stuck them on the Ranger.

I hated it when I was doing the trailing arm for it's MOT ( Bastard of a job) but it's a winner in my eyes,in 3rd gear she certainly lifted up her skirt

It really isn't that bad, I reckon a bit of welding on either side a tyre and a working horn will see it through an mot.

Wow! This Proton is actually pretty rusty!

I made a start on the "easy" side which looked to have less rust...

Oh dear!

I started by cutting out the rusty bit then making an inner arch, welding it, painting it and doing the same with the outer arch.

Thinking I had finished I had a prod at other suspect areas.

And found that there was a lot more rust than I'd anticipated, I ended up having to spend another 3 hours welding underneath including welding the spring mount, upper shock mount, a large section of the inner wheel arch and an area close to the axle mount. It took about 4 hours in total just to do one side, tomorrow I'm hoping to get the other side finished.

Kinda difficult to tell from the photos but that's it welded, painted and plastered in underseal. There's a bit of plastic trim to go on top but I'll leave it off for now until I get some paint made up.

Proton saloon true story:

A long long time ago I had a Proton saloon and a Lada Niva. I changed the oil on the Niva but didn't put the sump plug back in. Cue some very messy gravel.

So now I had a road legal Niva with no oil and a Proton that drove fine but not tax or tested. So to kill two birds I shovelled the manky gravel into some tubs and took them to the tip on the way to buy more oil in the Proton.

Going over a speed hump dislodged the rotten shock absorber mounts so with the weight of the gravel I bounced my way to the tip. I got followed by a copper but didn't get pulled.

This was twenty years ago and it was a G reg Proton. Im.assuming your shock mounts were done many years ago!

Round two!

44001364754_590a27eb1b_c.jpgRJC_4257 by srblythe, on Flickr

This side was a bit worse, I welded in various patches underneath. The finished wheel arch looks horrendous but I'm hoping the plastic trip will hide most it. The shock mount disintegrated so I had to weld either side of it and above.
