Absolutely dreadful. I love it! The boot area looks rather open to the weather there.

That is the kind of car driven in the 1990s by crusty drug dealers with upper middle class parents. He could've had a brand new one courtesy of his grandma but he felt the rust and gaffa tape repairs made him look edgy.

I bet you find a 'Spiral Tribe' tape in the stereo.

Sounds about right. The car is in St Albans and will cost more than the car is worth to bring it here.

Top quality vehicle sir. I know I've got hardly any posts on here but I could probably assist in getting that vehicle a fair bit closer to you if that's of interest.

Edit: just seen no MOT :(

I remember being told by my dad's underkeeper in 1978, that if you want to fuck someone's car up, put a bag of sugar in the tank.

Over 40 years later and I've now seen it happen!

It was a relatively nice day today so spent some time outside trying to improve the Audi 80, first I found a set of wheels that held air then fitted some tyres to them.

Next we tried figuring out how to put the front end back together.

Ended up having to take the wings back off in order to fit the headlights.

Still need to screw the bumper on, lower valance and some bits of trim but it's starting to look like a car again.

Last week my friend brought back the pipe I needed from Hungary to get my w123 running.

46132943415_1bd5d38273_c.jpgDSC_0208 by srblythe, on Flickr

It turned out that it wasn't quite right so I had to bodge an adapter onto it to make it fit the fuel regulator/accumulator

46322707434_71f04ca244_c.jpgDSC_0213 by srblythe, on Flickr

It turns out that the pipe must be from a similar but slightly different car because when all fitted together the original mounting bracket doesn't really fit onto all of the components. I just bolted it together the best I could and fitted it together.

46322706684_b0f362a534_c.jpgDSC_0216 by srblythe, on Flickr

I put some fuel in the tank and tried starting but it still had the same issue as before where it fired then died two seconds later. On top of that it appeared to be pishing out fuel from what looked like three different locations but might have just been one that was higher up and dripping off the lower points in the system.

Fed up with my lack of good results I pushed it back into its space and left it until today. A couple of people had mentioned that it was probably the fuel pump relay at fault so I bridged pins 30 and 87 and right enough the pump primed continuously, I stuck some more fuel in the tank and it fired into life.

It's still leaking fuel but at least I know what the issue was in the first place. I'm kicking myself a little because I'm only in this position because when it broke down I went for the cheapest/easiest fixes first and decided to change the pump and filter but destroyed all of the original rusty hard fuel lines in the process. If I had just bought a relay then It would have been fixed and I wouldn't be having all this bother with it.

Not too bad really, a rear wheel arch, the jacking points, a front inner arch and a rear corner need welding, I think it's less rusty than the white one.

I bought it because Mrs SK wanted another Mercedes and chose this one, the white Mercedes required more welding than I'm anticipating the gold one will.

Most of the floor on the drivers side needed replaced along with the jacking points and a rear arch. The wings could be doing with being changed but as it wasn't likely to fail an mot on them I've never bothered.

That's the worst of it out of the way but need to wait on a wheel arch repair panel coming to finish off the drivers side. The passenger side has much less rot by the looks of it and should only require a couple of bits at the jacking points.

I made a little bit more progress on the 240D, I finished the jacking points on the passenger side and welded some new metal into the inner rear arches.

My 110V Angle grinder stopped working recently so when I spotted some locally for sale going cheap I went for a look.

46203392565_b4c588f557_c.jpgDSC_0062 by srblythe, on Flickr

I ended up spending £180 on welding equipment and grinders!

33250959558_bfe696970b_c.jpgRJC_6892 by srblythe, on Flickr

I got a single phase Nexus nxm 170 mig welder, It works really well and is easy to use.

47126292421_ab71165812_c.jpgRJC_6894 by srblythe, on Flickr

I got a Murex tradesmig 263 3 phase machine with a MASSIVE bottle of argoshield heavy. It is pretty much exactly the same as my old Esab welder but works a lot better, I think the Esab had a hard life welding skips back together.

33250958628_559e8cc107_c.jpgRJC_6893 by srblythe, on Flickr

I also got a new arc r1500 110v inverter which can be used for stick and tig, I looked them up and they retail at £1100 new so £50 for it seems like a bit of a bargain. I had a quick go with the stick and it seems to work great.

The guy selling them was a retired engineer and was in the middle of clearing out all of his gear, he chucked in a couple of 110v extensions and some burning gear in for nothing.

I'm probably going to go back and get some more 110v stuff before it's all gone.

Since I had some decent gear I thought it best to clear some of the shite out, I thought 7 welding machines might be a little excessive so sold 3 of them as a job lot for £100
