DodgyBastard
She insisted on doing this side, I'm rubbish at filling and sanding so she filled and sanded the other side and was bored so wanted to try welding this side. DSC_0304 by srblythe, on Flickr Still needs more filler. We also ran out of 0.8 wire so it's back to using 1.2mm which I'm finding quite difficult to get used to. AndyW201
Those arches look almost the same profile as factory, with the bonus of a bit more curve to get the GTi rims in. Well played!
Rusty_Rocket
If you can weld French tin with 1.2mm wire, you must be doing something very right.I struggle with my usual 0.6 and the current turned well down... DodgyBastard
Pillock
If someone had told me they were going to weld Volvo 340 arches to a 305 van, I'd have some sort of mental breakdown at the thought of how shit it would look. It would, in my head, be about as appealing as a pickup made out of a Ford Focus and some plywood. Thankfully, I'm wrong and that looks spot on. DodgyBastard
I had a look online on French Ebay for replacement panels but couldn't see any, I had the 340 panels to hand so thought I'd give them a go. SiC
Looks like you need to buy another MIG welder. With the missus working on one side and you working on the other, repair/restoration jobs will get done in half the time. Felly Magic
We can officially say this van has gone to the right home, that arch profile looks spot on, DodgyBastard
Dirk Diggler
Looks brilliant; can only be 1.9 wheels, they look excellent on it; and fit on the back Top job; you would have made short work of that 213; but a 305 is so much cooler
SiC
What amazes me is how quickly you progress through these projects. DodgyBastard
vulgalour
Vote for steels here, but only because I've seen you put them on an estate version and they looked spot on. The rear light mounted panel is weird, there's no hole to the inside of the van to get to the bulbs by the looks of it.
DodgyBastard
I'm leaning towards the steel wheels because I have a set of tyres here for them. The 205 gti Alloys require new tyres and I have better things to waste money on than tyres. Also Reb might want to swap his 205 gti pepperpots for my gti alloys so I might not have them much longer anyway. mk2_craig
Peugeot wheels seemed to fit OK on Fords but not vice versa, something to do with the centre hole diameter?
Guest Hooli
I once put 15" GTi rims on a Sierra. The only issue was different shaped wheel nuts so they didn't clamp properly. No idea if the pug nuts would fit as I didn't have them. I got the wheels machined to take the ford nuts. That must have pissed someone off as after I sold it the wheels were sold to someone with a pug...

Zelandeth
Prefer the look of the steels, the larger alloys just look a bit too big to my eye. Just my opinion though, it's your van - you do what you prefer with it! Sudsprint
