I've seen that car before. Any ideas where anyone? Seems to have gone a fair distance.

It's been up here for around 4 years, it was owned by a boy in Stirling who was asking too much for it with no mot, I think he wanted £1500 to begin with, it eventually made it's way closer to me and changed owners a couple of times. I spotted it for sale today for £550 so bought it.

So, after swapping this a while ago for a 120y with Nisfan, it's eventually made its way back to me, it had 5 days mot left and needs a bit of a tidy up but is great fun with this under the bonnet!

There's a crack in the windscreen so I'll need to get that replaced and back in for a test!

I got the Proton back on the road after having someone else do the head gasket, they said the head was warped and needed skimming hence why when I fitted the new gasket myself it just didn't fix it.

It seems to be running better now.

The Polo didn't seem to be charging the battery so I took the opportunity to have a look underneath at the alternator wiring.

It looks fairly solid underneath, someone had fitted a full exhaust recently and it's been undersealed vigorously.

I found the reason for the alternator not charging.

The wire that goes onto the starter wasn't connected. My guess is it has had a change of engine to the later fuel injected head and whoever fitted it forgot to connect the alternator back up properly. There's an electric fuel pump under the bonnet because the later cylinder heads don't have a cam driven mechanical pump or anywhere to attach them to.

Also while looking underneath I discovered why the steering is so bad.

That's the track control arm on the drivers side, it's supposed to be straight like this.

I also discovered the ht leads were in the wrong order, so after swapping them to the correct order it runs better. I still think there's some adjustment to be made with the carb and timing but I'm considering binning the pierburg and fitting a weber.

I had the same thing with a Mazda Demio I ran as a stopgap. The only thing was,the arm was so consistently slightly bent all along its length that I didn't notice as I thought it came from the factory like that.It passed a test like it,too.

I've been having a distinct lack of enthusiasm for cars and not a lot of time to do anything lately so have decided to put a few things up for sale including the Proton, 305 saloon and Audi 80 which can be found here.

I also stumbled across a cool collection of rare rusty old shite but couldn't find the owner to ask about them...

So this weekend we were tasked with bringing an elderly relatives Kia Picanto from Stoke up to Scotland, it's a 1.1 Auto.

I was expecting it to be totally shit but I was quite surprised at how decent it is to drive, it will happily sit at 70-80 on the motorway and holds the road well, it's also excellent to drive around town.

There's potential that the car might be going up for sale in a couple of weeks but I'm not entirely sure what's happening.

Nobody seems to have a bad word to say about those Kia Picantos.  They seem to be from the point where Kia went from being weird rubbish cars to respectable little economy cars.  I don't think I've ever seen a rough looking one either, though I'm sure there must be some.

Agree with that. I borrowed the ex-MIL'a a couple of years ago and it was a perfectly decent way to travel as a runabout. If I was ever back in the market for a small cheap to run town car they would be pretty high up on the list

We started stripping the 305 estate yesterday, my friend came to help out and had a go at removing the windscreen and keeping the seal intact

Got the new screen fitted and while applying moderate pressure to make sure the seal was sealed properly disaster struck...

Back when I was running Alfa Suds, about 25 years ago! screens were difficult to get hold of even then, the rubber screen seal even more so. Rather than try to press a delicate screen in we'd make some little spacers to go around the aperture and just bond it in with proper windscreen cement.

Fair play for giving it a try FOAD, I think I've heard all the tricks with a piece of string etc but on the few occasions I've tried I've never managed to fit a windscreen.
