Looks the dogs nadgers etc..etc.... - like it works for a living and doesn't give a flying fuck who can see that. Proper badgers arse attitude right there.

Good spot on the number plate - i'd have had jonny plod dragging me off to learn new criminal activities as I would've forgotten too.

Apologies for assuming you were 'in the trade' FOAD - it's the sheer amount of work and motors you seem to get through/hands on and the setup you have.....

I may* have said it beore, but I do love this van........

There was a very annoying creaking coming from the w123 which turned out to be the bit where the seat bolts to the floor not being attached to anything, I knew the inner sill was needing done but the seat belt mount was pretty flimsy too.
That's it badly patched together now, it's solid but really looks like shit. a3ca94d7e3e9d820f77cd44f0c505ff2.jpg63bf0fe4945b4b9a1f59798660192ed6.jpg

Having not had a pickup for a few weeks I had been looking to buy another and was constantly checking ebay and gumtree for something cheap when this came up.

It's a 2.5TD L200 single cab with mot until July, mot history was pretty average, it's had some welding over the years and could do with some more in the future.

It was £890 from a local van place, I turned up in the 305 and the old boys were trying to buy it from me saying they used to export them to Ireland.

Anyway, having swapped the Ranger for the XT350 then selling it for £600, adding another £300 to get a pickup with mot in good working order didn't seem so bad.

It needs a front shock replaced and some holes welded up in the bed but other than that it seems pretty good. The paintwork is quite bad, I think a lot of the rust has been rubbed down and they've just used any old white paint to cover it up.

It has some pretty chunky looking tyres which don't help the handling very much, it seems to tramline occasionally due to the width of the front tyres.

I think it drives a bit better thn the ranger but has an open diff so isn't particularly good at drifting, it just spins one wheel up when accelerating on wet roundabouts = not much fun...

The engine will blow up without help from the crank pulley . Woefully undersize big ends are the cause . My local engine guy reccomends a new set of shells at about 90k as preventative maintainance .

Don't forget to put the correct number plate back on the tailgate!

My Dad put a new tailgate on his van years ago, but he forgot to swap the scrap van's plate with his van's plate!

It took some explaining to the copper who pulled him over...

Update on my story... I still have the old van's plates and the plate of the scrap tailgate!

The Premier State.JPG

The scrap plate was yellow, but many years outside on my shed wall in the Aussie sun has taken its toll.

I've been using the L200 all week to get to work.

24768738938_c555bf16d4_c.jpgDSC_0540 by srblythe, on Flickr

24768735128_0bbc190e79_c.jpgDSC_0541 by srblythe, on Flickr

I swapped my hilux rims onto it which have more appropriate sized tyres and changed a knackered front shock. The shock was incredibly easy to change with just a couple of 13mm bolts at the bottom and 14mm nuts at the top, the shock dropped out and the other slotted in easily enough. With the shock replaced and smaller tyres it has really improved the handling, it's also easier to lose traction on a wet roundabout.

I noticed that the temp gauge was all over the place, it would randomly heat up but only really get to the quarter mark on the gauge, it was also difficult to get any heat from the blowers. I sat for 15 minutes one morning trying to clear the screen and the gauge stayed at zero and didn't move.

38628279712_fb5d02f586_c.jpgDSC_0358 by srblythe, on Flickr

I was slightly concerned with the temperature issues because of the rate that these pickups seem to overheat and crack cylinder heads so I ordered another thermostat as that was the most likely culprit.

38660363501_5a641e5183_c.jpgDSC_0359 by srblythe, on Flickr

I was concerned that someone might have removed the thermostat at some point but I saw when I removed the housing there was in fact a thermostat in there.

38660357811_a6a695c84f_c.jpgDSC_0364 by srblythe, on Flickr

38660358871_aa26367475_c.jpgDSC_0363 by srblythe, on Flickr

Upon closer inspection I could see that the inner rubber seal had perished and was jammed in the thermostat leaving it slightly open which explains why it was difficult to get it to heat up.

I flushed the remaining coolant then filled it up with fresh coolant and bled the system. Now the needle sits in the centre of the gauge and the blowers blow nice and hot.

I saw that on gumtree. It looked pretty good other than the water pump issue .

I estimate this car needs £3000 maybe £4000 spending on it to get it rite and when this is done it will be wotrth about £1500!!
