I mentioned this car in a previous thread. It's being sold by someone i met recently. I was going to buy it myself but I can't justify another car at the moment and I have a few other things on but I was quite tempted by it. I'm listing it for him as I think it would make someone a fine shite workhorse even if it is a Vauxhall. The chap in question is selling it as he's bought a larger car for his wife who's disabled. He seems a decent bloke and he's a bit wary of listing cars on the new fangled internet but i've assured him if someone is interested on here he will be treated right.

So, i haven't driven the car but he's pretty honest about it's good and bad points. He's had it 12 years, it's called Dennis and they don't really want to let it go and are keen for someone to keep it running. So this is what I know...

178kish miles

MOT until 20th Sep

Slow but economical non turbo GM diesel engine.

Tidy looking bodywork other than rust to rear arches and he told me the spare wheel well might need welding.

4x good matching Firestone Multihawk tyres.

The baffles had gone in the rear silencer so he's just had that replaced last week which cost him £55.

Two rear brake cylinders and fluid at last MOT.

Timing belt and water pump at 160k.

New clutch and cable about 50k ago.

Central locking doesn't work so you have to lock with the key but there are two sets of keys.

New exhaust manifold, coil sorings and alternator in the last few years.

Headlining has come unstuck in places.

Genuine Vauxhall wheel trims at £20 each.

CD radio cassette and a dog guard included!

He wanted £300 but I've suggested £250 so i've already done the haggling for you! He gets his new car Tue or Wed next week so it would have to be collected then from Loughborough, Leics. I'm not sure if he's the sort of person to keep paperwork but at this price it would be a bonus. The only conditions are to give him a trouble free sale as he's a nice old giffer and it would be good to see how you get after you've bought it. If you're interested message me.

Yeah, that'll be NA - I think the low blow came in with the facelift.  I actually rather liked my low blow Mk3 though - not as quick as the Isuzu TD obvs, but torquey enough to keep up with traffic and get past Tesco lorries etc.  Certainly a sight more useable than the NA diesel.

I could see it as a daily driver or a back up car for load lugging, towing a trailer, that sort of thing. Not the most fun but a trusty steed nonetheless. If no-one has it I might have it off him anyway. He did ask for a scrap value and was told £50 which can't be right, has the steel price dropped so low?

Yep, right on it's arse at the minute hence so £50 if not generous is at least an average price. Personally I'd offer him £75 if you want it, shows him you're willing and keen to save it.

That explains it then. He won't take any less than £250 and I think it's worth that. His son is having it if it doesn't sell.
