Right, as per the News 24 thread I picked this thing up last night but don't want it anymore. It just locked me in the car outside the Co-op and I had to climb out of the window and it needs to go.

Things that are wrong:

It locked me in at the Co-op.

When the engine is running and the car is stationary it bounces around like it thinks its in a Snoop Dog video. The main problem seems to be the rear o/s which is not level like the others.

The clutch is not brilliant, it seems to drag in first gear sometimes.

It locked me in at the Co-op.

The airbag light is on.

There is no V5.

It locked me in at the Co-op.

It has a bullet hole in it.

One or more brake discs are warped mak.....ing......bra.....king......int......er.....est.....ing.

It smells like its had farm animals in it.

It locked me in at the Co-op.

The blower doesn't work properly.

Things that are right:

It has an MOT until 2016

So there you go. Might wang it on ebay as I am sure it would make £200 but thought I may as well offer it on here first for someone who can be arsed.  I however can't.

I don't think I have ever disliked a car as much after such a short amount of time. Its a cheap old car and when you get these you expect there to be some things wrong with them but I have no desire to even try and sort this heap out even if I could.

Someone could come along now and say that the suspension is an easy fix but I just don't want it  and I have not even looked to see what it is (although I bet its not an easy fix). If it is easy, buy it yourself, fix it, make ££££.

Check you can insure it first though as I can't get a reasonable rate of insurance on it. Insurance companies I am speaking to seem to be getting this confused with a Bugatti Veyron.

I paid £275 for it yesterday, I want £200 for it today. That's worse depreciation than a VW Phaeton but I just don't want to see it outside anymore.

Car is located in Baildon just outside Bradford. I drove it up from Sheffield last night okay so I am sure it will be okay to drive home as long as you can take the pong.

I'm not going to buy this, but I am going to post the things that may be easy to fix from experiences with my own Xantia.

The clutch is not brilliant, it seems to drag in first gear sometimes.

It's a fairly involved job, but not impossible to do. Clutches are available. May need adjustment to the cable, may also need a clutch pedal clip.

The airbag light is on.

Probably a broken wire under one of the seats where the plugs are. Easy fix this one. Thanks to Ruffgeezer for making me aware of this and saving loads of time finding the cause of the issue.

It has a bullet hole in it.

This is not a problem.

The blower doesn't work properly.

They all do that, Sir.

It smells like its had farm animals in it.

You did say you bought it off a pikey, so it probably has.

It locked me in at the Co-op.

Security feature. If it's got a leaking heater matrix then water might have got into the central locking module and caused a bit of jiggery pokery.

At £200 it's pretty good value for an Activa. If it were a not-Activa Xantia I'd definitely suggest you give it a trip over the car scales.

A real shame its a 'problem child' They are fantastic when they're sorted but loathsome if not.

The suspension is doing the 'Activa shuffle' ...

Usually requires an accumulator sphere at least or possibly more spheres replacing.... That'll stop it body popping.

The Activa has a hydraulic clutch so no cable as a cheap fix unfortunately.

Xantia Activa is one of those cars on my "Must try" list.

That's what I was saying a couple of days ago.

could even provide a Visa loan car until you got something else.

I desperately need to get the Visa sorted now as am very short of working cars, I will be biking it for a bit by the looks of it. Ordered the wheel bearings a fortnight ago and they are still not here. Angry phone call on Monday methinnks.

Just looked online. This doesn't look too bad.

Although this is an Activa and is probably about 20 times more complicated.

It is a shame we are so far apart as my new Visa is just sitting spare and after the good experience I had lending my C15 to Lankytim I have no problem lending my Visa to a experienced Visa pilot. It's here if you need it.

Ta fella but I will be okay. Cycling will be good for me as I am putting on a bit of timber recently.

our local shop is a sainsbury's so we might be ok if i was to buy this.

I offer you a cast iron guarantee that this problem has NEVER happened to me at Sainsburys. Therefore there is absolutely NO reason for you not to buy this car.

Ive mentioned this to one of its previous owners as the basis of a 16v BX-Activa hybrid project which is what he bought it for originally (Ie, rip out the mechanicals and weigh in the rest) before selling it on for more than he paid for it.

He is "thinking" about it....

I nearly sold this today from a post someone has helpfully put across on the FrenchCarForum but the buyer asked me to send him some photos of the rust that were advisories on the MOT.

So I raised the car and had a look underneath:

Okay, not too bad. Lets check the other side:

I think thats probably meant to be a fail isn't it?

Plus when I was having a look underneath tonight to see if I could spot anymore I noticed this actually on the outer sill that I had somehow not seen this morning:

Its even got yellow crayon round it, indicating that it was probably an MOT fail. So how has it got an MOT?

WTF else is wrong with this car that should have failed the MOT? Is there any way this sill hole was NOT a fail?

Think the scrapman cometh.

if that's the rear that sill is within 30cm of a seat belt mounting = fail

Exactly. I looked on the MOT test website:

any load bearing or supporting structure or supporting panelling within 30cm of the mounting location. [........] during the examination of a seat belt mounting on an inner sill, consideration must be given to the outer sill (or the sill reinforcement if the outer sill is a plastic cover), door pillar, floor panel or any other structural part within 30cm of the component’s mounting point.  It is accepted that it is not possible to assess some of these areas due to the fitment of body trim etc.
