Montego 1.6L £200 Tewkesbury - Cat C query

Firstly this isn't my car.

It is a 89 F reg post facelift 1.6L Montego saloon. It is grey. It has MOT till April but is Sorned.

The seller says it is solid as he has done a lot of work on it, it may need one patch on the sill IIRC. It does have a cracked bumper and the heater matrix has been bypassed. It has been his daily driver.

I am interested but he needs it gone certainly by the end of next week as it is on his employers premises and his employer is demanding its removal very soon. I don't think I am going to be able to save it due to the time constraints and I will have to somehow find somewhere for it.

He says he will probably need to scrap it!

It looks decent from the pictures, albeit needing a clean.

It has been mentioned on the Autoshite Facebook page last week.

Someone had agreed to purchase it over the weekend and has let him down.

I may be able to send you some pictures this evening as he send me some on Facebook.

Will someone save this Montego as they are certainly getting rare and I would say for £200 it's a bargain?

It is in Tewkesbury.

Is this the LPG'd one? There was an ad for it in here round about early jan (browsed the ad but went for the rover 220 in the end) Thought it had found a new owner, I think It even got checked out by Craig Cheetham on aronline/ honest John classics IIRC

If he gets stuck give him my number, i don`t mess about and have a trailer. I`m not too far from there  07805 157 639. Be shame to scrap it

Scrap was only £60 a ton last week when I weighed a polo in, although it may be on the up as I was working on the car all day and 4 tatter wagons went by

One other point this Montego is a Category C car.

From others experience would that generally mean a huge hike in insurance costs, it has apparently been inspected and approved?

My Xantia is Category C, the insurers know and don't care. The only thing they said is that any amount they pay out on a claim would reflect that Category C cars are worth less, which presumably means I'd get £450 rather than £500...

thats fine, I need more cars like I need more mother in laws but I just want to save them all

hated montegos when new but somehow they don`t seem so bad now

as an aside, a chap I knew grafted a montego front end onto a maestro van. no idea why, but it looked ok. not sure if its still about

It's MOT'ed till next month so you could drive it back if you're feeling brave.

I can give you a lift down on Saturday morning if you don't mind an earlyish start,  I have to be in Cheltenham for 10.30.

Thanks for the offer. Not sure if its a runner when the LPG system is removed though? would need the original throtle body? or am I talking out my arse?

Hello, this is my car for sale.

it does and will run without the lpg, but the lpg is well worth having. It is insanely cheap to run. £200 without LPG £350 with (utter bargain! ) I've lost so much money on this car it's silly, as I had to get parts of the lpg kit modified to fit the montego.

This car is good to go. You can drive it away (please be aware it has now been sitting for a while) or you can get it moved via shiply.com.

This is such a cheap usable car with mot I'm so surprised it hasn't gone yet

Many insurance companies refuse cat c cars, but enough don't mind though it is always best to tell them.  Yes, you get a lower payout but it doesn't matter at this level.  Need not be a problem.

Well worth having the lpg and secondhand kits aren't that easy to shift in my opinion.  So much discussion about now concerning the health issues of particulates from diesel and carcinogens from all cars, perhaps there is a better way?

Hope it gets a good home.
