FOARE SAIYLE Beige B Reg MR2

Keymaster

Recommended Posts

Its a wedge of the aspirational 80's

Its in Merseyside

Its Beige

It has pop up lights

It has bonnet stripes

It has PROPER BOSS retrimmed interior

Its got DAB

Its done 126k and has MOT til end of May

Its got a folder full of receipts. Some of these relate to work done to the car. A small fortune has been spent on it over the years.

Its paintwork is fucked. It looks gr9 from 10 yards. Do not be fooled. It is microblistered to buggery on pretty much every panel. And not just one or two blisters here and there. Theres hundreds of them absofuckinglutely everywhere.

Its sound where it counts - engine strong, chassis & bodywork free of major rot, calipers, coolant pipes etc all had a small fortune spent on them.

I'm selling because I barely used it over the last couple of years, I've lost interest & can't be arsed forking out for a respray on a garage ornament.

What are you waiting for? Give me £1500 and it can be your collection of mobile blisters to drive as is / paint / leave to collect dust in your garage instead of mine.

A few pics of the car in happier times:

And a few close ups of the blistering - not easy to get pics of this but these do show the extent of the problem:

LOLCAT

not as good as billehs LOLDOG but close

nice early one doh - beige tho WTF thought early ones were two tone....?

Most early black bumper ones where white or red. The metallics and 2 tones were very expensive options... they cost about 10-15% of the list price depending which one you went for. I believe metallic black was the most expensive colour.

Cheers. The interior cost me a fair bit of money 3 years ago. It's probably done 3000 miles since then so it's like a new car inside. The blistering is some sort of chemical reaction. The paint job is actually 14 years old now so its been a very slow fault to manifest itself, I did get the odd warning... in 2011 the rear spoiler blistered pretty badly after some time under a cover, as did the petrol cap to a lesser extent. It's definitely not water, in fact it's difficult to coax any liquid out. What came out from the spoiler was yellow and bitter tasting. Working theory of my tame bodyshop is that it may be silicon or similar that wasn't properly cleaned off before one of the coats went on. It was winning trophies as recently as last year. It was properly mint until this winter.

That's bloody lovely. Were the bonnet/side graphics factory options?

I used to have a red B reg Mk1a, they're ace. Seriously tempted by that I must say, beige or non.

They were dealer options in the USA market. I made them myself with the help of my mate Tommy who has got all the cutting gear.

I'd say that's value, Look after it and in 5 years time that's a £2500 car, even with the microblisters. Most appealing.

I agree. Prices for these are going up, there wont be one anywhere thats vaguely as tidy as this for the same money. I don't need to sell it but at the same time I don't use it enough anymore to really justify the respray and annual running/storage costs. I'm considering lending it to somewhere like stondon if a buyer doesn't surface, so at least someone would get to enjoy it until I got my mojo back.

Do you know "Peter Smith" - he's from your neck of the woods and was seriously into mk1 mr2's.

I know a Peter Smith, it might be the same one?

I think your car needs a doctor.

Still here & the microblisters have, well, sort of disappeared in the warmer weather. Have some new photos taken today:

Stunning AW11 for the money.

I also second trapped silicon wax being the culprit for the pits and bubbles on the paintwork - my Amazon has the same problem.

I'd rather have unbroken (pitted) paint than panels letting moisture in. Of course, the bobble hat OEM brigade will judge your car fit for the crusher, but who really cares in the scheme of things?

What a spiv. I hope he severely stubs his toe, the profiteering bastard.

Nah, good luck to him! He has got it at about the right starting point for a good haggle & I'm sure a serious buyer would be able to find my ads to figure out how much wiggle room there is!

Personally I couldnt be bothered with all the haggling the paint blisters would have led to, so was clear about the problem, priced it low & refused to budge. Its his car now & can (try to) sell it for whatever he wants.
