Fabergé Greggs
When I moved down to Laaaaaandaaaaan I gave this car to a mate who has subsequently had loads of children and run out of time space enthusiasm so it's coming back to me. It's in a better state these days- it runs and drives but is still very rusty. I'm looking to move to place that has a garage so a meaty project could be on the cards. My x1/9 is my true love and needs some TLC but rather than tackle that as my first resto maybe this would make a good first. I've always wanted to build a marcos or similar and given that this has been sitting in a filed after doing about 20,000 miles it would probably make a good donor for oily bits. BUT! The car was given to me by a dear friend on the condition I give her the private plate back once it's (finally) MOT'd. So the potential of building a kit and not getting to use the original number plate would be very very bad. I've looked into it and hopefully by using all the bits from this on a marcos shell would constitute enough of the original car to keep the plate. I think. Also, I'm open to options. I looked briefly at moke-like kits. What else should I contemplate? Only problem is using a fibreglass shell i wouldn't learn the skills needed for restoring my X1/9. Anyway. Suggestions please! fotorabia, Aston Martin, fordperv and 1 other

Fabergé Greggs
Lolz. How does one flog a plate without an MOT these days?
AnthonyG
Any kit, such as a Mini-Marcos one, that uses all the mechanical parts of the Mini would retain it's identity. Even less hassle would be a rebuild/swap into a Mini shell of the correct era, no need to worry about SVA etc. Unless you use a new Heritage shell, there will still be a chance of welding action as all Minis rust and the youngest is 15 years old now. catsinthewelder
How bad is the rust? If you just want to do this for restoration practice and to get an MOT for the plate you would surely be better off bodging up the Mini than throwing a few grand at a fibreglass shell. Once the plates transfered off you can transfer the oily bits to a nice Metro or ADO16 Angrydicky, alf892, ShiteRider and 4 others

Fabergé Greggs
I like it! I wouldn't flog it either way. I'm just thinking about the cheapest funnest thing to do with it. Can't remember how rusty it is tbh, but I think it's saveable.

Pillock
Engine-rape it for a metro, and make sure you post on all the mini forums you can find detailing the work. red5, The Old Bloke Next Door, CreepingJesus and 16 others

captain_70s
Pack it full of filler and brush paint it in red Hammerite. It's a Mini so it'll still be worth £10k regardless. AlabamaShrimp and Pillock
vulgalour
I will be the sole defender of the colour then, pink cars are for winners. I vote to cut your teeth restoring it rather than turning it into a kit, anything it needs can be bought new, as restoration projects go Minis have to be one of the easiest when it comes to parts sourcing. Once done, sell for £LOLZMEGABUCKS and buy a proper car or invest your new skills and cash into the Fiat Lace Curtain. Fabergé Greggs
It won't stay pink. I think it might be already half hammerite red. Ideally it'd be old English white. Dick Longbridge and fred

NorfolkNWeigh
For some reason, which is lost in the mists of time in our household ( 4 daughters) when they were little the word mini or Minnie was used when referring to,how shall I put this? The female um,err... Well you know? Anyway, since then much hilarity is had whenever someone mentions Minis in certain ways , this thread title for instance. Unfortunately my mother has a Bini Cooper S and a few months ago I thought the whole family was going to literally die laughing when after a minor RTA at a roundabout she told us ' This bloke just rammed into my Mini from behind ! Parky
Chop it in half and sell each half for an "ironic" twenty grand to some god awful Shoreditch hipsters to create a feature of their town pad. Seriously though I second the old English white suggestion. With a black roof. Or safari blue with white roof. Anything but red or BRG!
