vulgalour
I want to rewrap the wiring loom in the Princess engine bay, sort out some dodgy connections, make it tidy, all that jazz. I have access to some black cloth loom tape left over from another job and this is what I'll use if I have to. The only other fabric loom tape colours I've found are white, grey, blue and a weird gold-black-beige colour I don't know what to make of. What I want to do is wrap the loom in purple tape. This is the only tape I've so far found that's rated for wiring and higher temperatures but it's too pink and it looks like it might just be shiny PVC tape which I don't want to use.http://www.fancy-tapes.co.uk/store/product/15-188/ For purple tape of the type and texture and colour I want I found that self amalgamating Hockey Stick tape is available in the purple I want and of a similar lightweight type. I don't know anything about the heat, fuel or oil resistance of it so I don't know if it would be suitable for the application.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160694842989?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT TL:DR; I'm making life difficult for myself by trying to find a purple cloth-type wiring loom tape. Can anyone on Autoshite help me find what I'm looking for?
Timewaster
To do a loom in hockey sick tape would cost an absolute fortune no? A daft suggestion I know but couldn't you wrap the loom in conventional tape, mask around it and blow it over with a rattle can?
Pillock
Could you wrap white fabric tape around it, and then somehow spray dye on?I'm guessing dying it before application would ruin the adhesive, unless you could just dye one side. vulgalour
There's not a lot of loom to wrap so those two rolls of hockey tape should be more than enough. I hadn't considered the spray or dye approach. Spray might not work on the bit of loom that fastens to the block face, I suspect that would just burn the paint off, dye might fare better. overrun
Drawing attention to mundane things like wiring looms, washer jet hose, horns, wiper motors etc has never made sense to me. I remember the coloured conduit kits people used to fit. Black, loom tape, all the way! IMO.
PiperCub
Isn't the tape they used to use (still do??) to wrap racing bike drop-handlebars the self-amalg type? If so, imagine a bike shop may be able to help given cyclists love of leary colours (given the way they dress these days).
tooSavvy
My Savv is totally routed through black annaconda - split longways - like 12mm for pairs and 20mm for the loom/multiple strands. No tape in the engine bay. Door wiring is shiney black wound, tho... TS
Richard
The cotton handlebar tape is called Tressorex http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/?_nkw=tressorex&clk_rvr_id=780966841236
vulgalour
Good call on the conduit, guys, that's something I'd forgotten about. If the loom were completely invisible I'd just use the black stuff, easy peasy. For the inner wing and under radiator bits of the loom I reckon black is suitable as those bits aren't seen. However, there's a very visible run across the front of the block, not so much now as the loom and block are both black, so I'd rather keep it colour matched so it's less visible at least on that bit. Luckythirteen
I'd advise against the hockey stick grip tape at least. It does stick to itself, but only for a while, until it decides to fall off. Anything lighter than black attracts dirt like mad, and even the black stuff goes manky quite quickly. Considered the 'fun' duck tape range? Some weird and wonderful designs, and Asda seems to have loads for £3 a roll.
vulgalour
I'd not considered duck tape, not sure why, it fixes* everything else! They do a funky purple leopard print I was looking for an excuse to purchase. I was going to use the zebra print to cover up the inserts in my side trims which have gone all flakey and weird.
