Unfortunatly it probably is bridge time for it. The 6 speed box isn't very reliable and not a quick thing to replace. Autodata give over 7 hours to do the job. They also have dual mass flywheels so not cheap for a clutch. They aren't that difficult to DIY but you have to take the whole front off and it is a bloody heavy gearbox. The boxes also fit traffics so are quite sort after keeping secondhand prices high. The megane 6 speed is much better but won't fit.

From another forum from 2009

Got the same on my 1.9, 6 speed Laguna. It's done 156000 miles.

The 1st and 2nd gears are the worst. I replaced the clutch 18 months ago. I put equivalent grade gearbox oil in (2.4l) and all was ok for a while. Then I noticed the gear changes were not so good. I drained the oil and put the same back in but a bit less 2.2l. This appeared to help but has been bad again recently. I tried to get some Tranself TRP from renault and was told that Renault now recommend Tranself NRP so I used 2.2l of that, it didn't change much.
Today I bled the clutch it doesn't seem much different.

I believe it could be the oil level (or if I need TRP) but I will have to go to Renault to find out.

Other than that I think it could be the gearbox.

The old PQ9 box. Is it just sticking in first or is the gearbox actually jamming up so the car won't go? If it's the former, pull away in 2nd. These boxes do suffer bearing failure but they aren't as bad as that - it's only the shagged ones you hear about. The one I had was on 100'000 and it was sweet. 8 million Trafics still going as well.

It does sound like a linkage failure though so probably worth getting someone to look at it first before weighing it in under the assumption it needs a new box.

WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH CORT16?

We followed an 02 laguna through and out of Aylesbury on Friday, it beached shit out of the exhaust even on gentle acceleration. I guessed it had maybe 7 months to live?

Amy then said "but yours does that too sometimes"..." but mines allowed to my dear, it's old. Plus it only does it past 4k revs, and I rarely go that high day to day.

Spending hundreds of pounds on a car that's not even worth £100 and ending up with a heap of *&%£$ that's still only worth bridge money - nonsensical. Buy one of the cars for sale on here and save £££ over the next year.

Ref the oil level , if it's a pk6 then don't fill it to the level plug , the correct level is some way below that and over filling actually damages the box . The best way is to drain out and refill with the correct quantity . I always use the elf gl4+ oil and had no problems

This is what kills these boxes. Renault do a special plastic dipstick with markings on either side, one side for Lagunas and the other for Trafics. The reason is that the box sits at a different angle. Most mong mechanics whip out the filler plug, tip a gallon of EP80 in there and it buggers them. A gearbox specialist I know says these boxes were quite tightly shimmed from new, and the way they are treated inn the first few thousand miles has a lot of bearing. (No pun)

I still think these are a looker especially the estates. I recon a 2.0 pez would make a decent banger although my mate had one and the boot hinges snapped and the mileage went up 100 for every mile he did.

Yeah, I've got the horn for one. Needs to be a pre facelift Sport Tourer (Estate) - the 2005 facelift was a fucking disgrace. A 1.8 petrol with at least two working keycards please. Still the most insanely comfy car I can recall driving. I really liked the 1.9DCi I had two years ago.
