So quick opinion then - Wossitwurf as a "salvage" vehicle  - 2005 Almera with dented drivers side?

ie  how much will the insurance want me to pay / knock off any settlement do you think?

£300 ish?

Based on me getting my 205 back for £50, I would say half your figure.

Priced up some bits on eBay and that car in Hitchin looks more attractive by the minute

Bumper & door in the right colour come to half the cost of that banger so with some other bits that I could use it probably makes sense.

Oddly the boot lamp has stopped working - the bulb is OK and its on the same fuse as the main interior lights which are working. Cant think why that would suddenly stop unless its having a sulk ( yes the bulb is OK). Had some fun trying to get the rear window back up the last half inch when I dropped it to see whether it had been affected.

Salvage is whatever scrap would be. Cartakeback would give you a value.

I wouldn't think more than £100 really.

Of course the dent has to be where there is no direct access when the inside panel is off so lumps of wood, brick bolsters and various other things all lended themselves as drifts with the BFO lump hammer - then a bit of T-Cut and polish.

1987 called and it brought Strongbow :food-smiley-015: and TIDE MARKS

So whilst poking the C8 I realised that the rubbery coating on the sill had allowed water underneath and whilst looking OK, had allowed major crustyness to develop - mmm, soft crusty bubbles.

So off with the old, out with the KURUST and on with the jollop.  And whilst one car looked all 1980's I could hardly leave the other one looking all modern and un-tidemarked.

Looking at various colours - the bike has been painted in ford Purple Velvet - but has no laquer coat and looks as flat as a witches tit.

I like the purple, when it looks right - but this looks a bit naff. Debating repainting it anyway - either green ( I quite like Ford Java Green) or Yellow ( again Ford come up trumps with 1980 Signal Yellow) - or alternativly i could try to get the paintwork on the bike looking all nice and deep and shiny.

n my search for paint ideas I was reminded just how far we have come from the 1980s when cost options on colours were limited to metalics and a few special order colours and there was much more choice for the driver...

OH MY GOD -

36312256076_1d0553458d_c.jpg

So - generally its fooking boring colours all round, everything bar one colour is a cost option and if you want a Ka+ (same size as a Mk2 Fiesta) and you dont want LAIRY YELLOW you have to cough up  more dosh.

And thats progress.

What a time to be alive.

It's ironic that bright yellow, which was an extra cost "signal colour" back in 1979 is now the only free colour on a Ka!

I think its canny marketing - the Ka+ ( Fiesta Mk2 size) is likely to be bought by two buying groups - the giffer downsizer / second shopper car for the wife and the young student/first car on finance singleton.

The latter would probably put up with yellow because free, the former would likely want something less lairy and pay for a bland colour - I just find it utter shit that we have gone from half a dozen flat no cost colour choices to one. What utter shite by car manufacturers that is. Not only that the choice of colours on offer is utterly fooking dull as ditchwater and crap.

1979 someone bought a 1.1 Base Fiesta

This was a car with a rubber bulb washer.

No carpets - rubber mats only

no HRW

No side mirrors ( the fitted ones were off a Maxi)

no rear shelf ( or supports to even fit one)

vinyl seats

No radio

2 speed blower/heater.

Yet someone paid extra for Sirius Metallic Red.....

Old ladies insurance company being slightly vexing in so much as they wont talk to me as she has not reported it to her insurance company.

They will only talk to my insurance Co - Ive explained to them that rather than make a claim I want to deal with them directly, but the telephone droid kept repeating that they would not talk to me only my insurance company. They say until their client tells them she has had a crash they dispute that it has happened. I said so why is it any different my company telling you this information then?

I have the ladies details from MID so may just email them (the insurance co) the dashcam footage of the incident.

Her insurer refusing to speak to you is correct, especially nowadays with Data Protection. You don't actually claim off her company as your contract is with your company, and her's with her company. You claim off your company who then chase her company for the costs.

Bollocks. On two recent occasions, I have dealt with the other party's insurers direct after they admitted liability. The only contact with my own insurer was notifying of the accident(s) "for information only".

Looks like someone has the wrong info - Cazana has a change of ownership down in October 2015

https://cazana.com/uk/car/FM53NGV

You might wanna phone the DVLA and check if you're the owner or not. I've done that before when my ex "stole" my car by backdating a form. They wouldn't confirm who did own the car (data protection) but I gave them my details and they told me it wasn't my details, and my details didn't even appear in the history!

Update on the Picasso...

Several rather long winded phone calls - the car was traded in Oct 2015 ( against the Almera) and I notified the DooVLAy - however the dealer I sold it to never re-registered the car and its been driving round and through two MOT's with no registered keeper and no insurance  since then. Not sure if it was covered by a trader insurance policy but GMP seem to think that it wasnt and when seized the driver had no licence.

Anyway, upshot is that the car will probably be scrapped now as its unlikely anyone will come forward for it  and pay the towing charges and storage fees back in 2008 round here that was £150 towing, £80/ day storage all +VAT  ( so up to now its £564) - shame as its got an MOT till June next year ( which if it wasnt insured why would you bother MOT'ing it)

All very weird.

Could have been a genuine mistake that they thought as a trader they were insured but hasn't been added, or it might have been the trader's partner driving or something.

But yeah, it's got a bright future in front of it in a baked beans factory now...
