Owned by the typical "little old lady" the family sold this old banger after they took it off her as at 92 she was a liability. Have a look, I love it. That is all for now. Sudsprint, Conrad D. STUNO Posted February 6, 2015 Author Share Posted February 6, 2015 I have been given the go-ahead by the owner to tell all, so I will, but the story is far from over.It belongs to a member of this esteemed disorganisation sometimes called bm55. He is a recent import from a place called Scotland. His place of existence is the deepest darkest corner of the southern island of New Zealand as of now.A short time ago Jon of this parish posted an ad in the e-bay thread , yup, this car. It was seen by bm55 and he bought it more or less on the spot. In his excitement he forgot one simple thing, he was 1500 kilometres plus a 3 hour ferry ride away from his new purchase and the seller wanted rid of it ! this posed a slight problem as he had to be at work on most days, leaving very little time to travel to Auckland to collect. So a plea was sent to Jon about how to get it delivered.That led to my phone and email getting some use and a decision was eventually made that we would collect the car and bring it to my home some 200 km south of the big city and keep it here until something could happen.It also happened that Jon was working in Auckland on Tuesday so that was to be the day. The unfortunate bit there was that Jon started work at 6am !So at 2am my alarm clock thundered away and after showering etc I departed to Jon's place a 1/2 hour drive away. All went well and we departed at 3:15 for Auckland. Jon driving me in my Mazda which he is using as his Peugeot is likely to dispose of it's cambelt and water pump at any second. The water pump sounds like it is trying hard to escape the car !I was deposited at a fairly early time in Auckland with several hours to wait until the car could be collected so as I am an elderly pensioner I sat by the beach and took photos of the sunrise (see them in the photographers thread on the open forums).At the appointed time I used my pensioners bus pass for the first time and got to the sellers address to be greeted by a seller who was a very pleasant lady, the daughter in law of the former owner. the business (car type) done and I was off, the car had been standing for quite some time and gave a couple of backfires as it started and immediately settled down to an almost silent idle. The only disappointment was there was to be no first petrol stop as the tank was nearly full. Down through the suburbs and then onto the motorway and I was away to home a couple of hundred kilometres away, the car ran perfectly all the way. I stopped only once on the way, at Bombay services for the usual necessary stop and a late lunch at the Mcdonalds, then onwards.Home achieved, tea and bikkies consumed, message to bm55 that his car was in one piece and I then realised I was tired so promptly fell asleep in a chair.Next day was time for a good look at this Mitsubishi and it was found to be in very good order and quite up to a further long journey to meet it's owner.Next instalment whenever it happens folks. Jon Posted February 6, 2015 Share Posted February 6, 2015 I had the pleasure of following STUNO home in his BX in this on the back roads the other day, as we live about 30 mins away from each other. The 2 litre V6 is a nice sounding motor and the auto box seems to suit the car well and changes smoothly, which must surely be one of the key priorities in any auto car but is seemingly overlooked in many of them. Funnily enough, you expect the seats to envelop you as they appear very squashy but in fact they're not half as soft as you'd imagine. The heater and air con controls are directly in front of the steering wheel and everything bar the indicators (which are on a flappy up/down switch) that would have been on a stalk is on rotary dials, a la 1980's Subaru. It looks gimmicky at first but actually works pretty well and stops women in the passenger seat pissing around, covertly cranking up the heater when you're driving. Just put another bloody layer on! Everything I had a play with worked bar the air con and the interior is a very pleasant place to be. I like the chromed door knobs and door handles and also the optical illusion that is the headlining. It's a very convincing tweed pattern but is actually padded vinyl. Best bit though has to be the original skinny steels with MMC centre caps; I've never seen such mingebag wheels on such a large car, outside of those 1980's Japanese car brochures, so I hope BM55 keeps them! Oh and the odometer which has yet to make 90000km is pretty rare for a 25 year old car over here. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Petrolize Posted February 7, 2015 Share Posted February 7, 2015 I am the soon to be owner of this, assuming Stuart (STUNO) is willing to hand over the keys to me!The plan is to meet up in Wellington (located at the bottum of the north island) then I'll leave for the ferry to the south island and have something of a roadtrip along the West coast until arriving back in Queenstown in the far south. By the time the trips finished id imagine the distance to be around 1,500kms in total (Since Auckland). The intension is to keep the thread going with updates of the trip as it happens, but I may not be able to write so much or upload photographs until i'm back. Stuart and Jon have been more than helpful throughout in finding a way of getting the car down to Queenstown one way or another, Jon having originally posted a link to the car in the ebay tat' thread. I have my hopes that it will be a good example, and seeing the pictures of it make me look forward to finally seeing it in the flesh! Automatic as well for the win and it was a truly lovely thing. I lusted after that thing quite solidly but unfortunately, the old man didn't believe in maintenance yet he was a bloody good engineer! He could fix anything and if the car malfunctioned, he would do whatever was needed... but no more! So of course, it eventually failed to proceed and was replaced while its fate was to be left parked, still immaculate to slowly dissolve like all his prior cars. Shame. He also had piazza turbo (and so did my mum but at different times) that was rather pleasant and another auto (my mums was manual and went rather well but handled like crap whereas his was a later one with Lotus interferance and handled rather better) and between them they owned another Mitsi coupe thing thats name escapes me but was okay seeing as its only use was to transport them up and down the horrendeous lane they lived at the end of to their decent car(s). It did it really rather well for a very long time, again with zero attention. Mitsubishis are great cars (my missuses Colt was great) but there are no bloody dealers round here anymore after the last one went bust. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Not that was a problem,all was going as arranged. All I had to do was drive there, leave the car and get on a bus back home. It was really that easy. So on Tuesday Morning, accompanied by my sister who insisted on coming for a ride we departed this place to do the deed. The only thing worth? a photo was a Countach parked at the gas station but that did not happen. Then continuing south across the Desert Road to Waiouru (why oo roo) which is the Amy base town and home to the national army museum, worth a stop if you ever get here ! The point where the gates close the road during bad weather. Southern cates are at Waiouru Bedford One of 3 Volcanoes by the road. STUNO Posted February 25, 2015 Author Share Posted February 25, 2015 Finally, after a 6 1/2 hour drive we arrived at the Wellington ferry terminal to meet bm55, And after that delivered him and his travelling mate to their acommodation where a formal handing-over ceremony was held. I used all my bulk at an attempted Woolard and bm55 took the keys. Then it was all over suddenly. They departed to their Hostel, and we wandered up the road for a stunning feast at Mc d...'s which was where the bus was to arrive to take us home. We got back at 3.00am and went to bed. bm55 and friend were probably still out "testing" the lovely Mitsubishi. Petrolize Posted February 25, 2015 Share Posted February 25, 2015 As Stuno explained I took something of a road trip with a friend down the South island then over the ferry to Wellington. Stuart met us from the boat and we drove round the city listening to the muted V6 for a bit. Once checked into the hostel we took a drive up Mount Victoria in the Mitsubishi. I have a few pictures from this but cannot seem to upload them so will keep on trying for another half hour or so. There are some good ones on the way coming down from the hill in the evening light.Thanks again to Stuno for helping so much in getting the car from one end of the country to another!Initial impressions of the car are good, it drives nicely enough, the seats and suspension are soft and it handles like a proper barge should, ie not at all. Its in lovely condition having spent the past 20 years in the same hands and kept inside a garage during that time. The climate over here means the car has remainded mostly free of rust, but then again that seems to be the case with all cars out here in New Zealand, so nothing to write home about. As Jon said to me though it does have a certain smell inside similar to that of an old peoples home, having been pensioner owned for quite some time, hopefully this will go away with a bit of use though. Inside is all very 80s and there's a bonus Dire Straits tape to listen too on our travels aswell.Plan to leave Wellington tomorrow in the car and will update the thread when possible Bucketeer 1 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
