Advertising this on behalf of a mate who can't get onto the forum (forgotten password) and can't register while the main domain is down!

£200 for car without LPG
With MPG £450 (the LPG cost me a bomb!)

For sale here is my LPG Powered Rover Montego. It has MOT until april 2015, and is currently taxed, although this wont transfer over to the new owner due to the new tax law.

The bodywork is what really lets this car down, and although i was planning to give it a full respray but realistically, im not going to have the time to complete. Im also mid way through a restoration of a mini Metro, and and allegro, and with a another allegro starting to need work, it just isnt going to happen.
The bodywork is original, and thats just about all it has going for it. The panels are mostly straight, apart from a dent in the drivers door, bonnet and rear quarter. The paint has faded on every upwards facing panel, such as the bonnet, roof and boot. It doesnt really look too nice, and my plan was always to sort out the paintwork first. Nothing has "rusted away" and forgetting the paintwork, it is in OK condition, although has filler in the rear arches i believe, and a crack in the bumper.

Engine

This engine is strong, and will always start. It is the 1.6 which pulls well. It idles a little low when warm, but never stalls. This could always be adjusted, but i've never bothered as it isn't really problem.

It runs on LPG, and with it being a carburetor engine single mixer ring, it can be ran all the time on LPG, without the need to run it on petrol at all. The only time you need to run on petrol is when the temperature is below -5 - and even then just wait until it has got up to temperature, then back to LPG it is. It runs well on both LPG and petrol, and the switch is located on the dashboard.
Because of the LPG, it is insanely cheap to run. It still gets about 35MPG, but with fuel at 63p per litre....you do the maths!!

Clutch and gearbox

The gearbox is great - never had an issue with the 5 speed box, although the clutch is a little feeble, and a spirited start is out the question, although it has never slipped. I have a funny feeling it is a sticky cable, and will check over it.

The car was always designed to sit at motorway speeds, and it still does that without issue. It will sit at 75/80MPH all day, without any issues of overheating or anything really. The one issue i did have with it was that the heater matrix leaked one day, and i was forced to do a roadside repair of bypassing it. It is still like that now, as i haven't been able to get hold of a new part. This doesn't cause any issues at all, apart from you have no interior heating.

This car stops, goes, and is insanely cheap to run. It has a Pioneer CD player, and also half decent speakers in the front, although the rears don't work. (not investigated.)

Overall, this car is a little shabby, but with a strong engine underneath, and with the LPG fitted - very cheap to run indeed.
I can deliver anywhere for the price of two cars there and one car back. If not - collection from tewkesbury, Glos.

The heater will be the pipes that run from the engine bay to the matrix, they're mild steel and after 20+ years most have rusted through. Mine was bypassed for a couple of years, but recently I got so fed up with the lack of heater I removed the pipes and "repaired" the holes using 1/2" heater hose, araldite and jubilee clips. I then smothered them in paint to try and keep the rust at bay. Surprisingly it seems to have made a good repair, but I wanted a more permanent repair. Fortunately, someone on the Maestro and Montego forum is making up a batch of new pipes in copper. Not cheap at £50, but it should be a permanent fix. If anyone does buy this Monty I'd advise them to get over there and put their name down for a set.

For the money i'd say get in touch with the guy, he's a BL nut, has a maestro and mg tf as well!

Two allegros, and a metro aswell!!

 

Im setting myself the task of trying to sort a few of the problems, and first of all in investigating the clutch. One day it was fine, next day it is slower to return. It's cable driven so im sure it isnt much.

 

Although i have tried to source a part for the heater matrix, i havent really investigated where the leak is coming from, and whether i repair is possible.

 

I have a bit of time today,a nd will see what can be done. Price will be the same of course - i just want this to go to a good home really.

Typical, I make a post about wanting something BL>Bust in the £200 thread, forum goes down with the switchover so I go out and buy a MG ZR. THEN TYPICALLY ONCE I'VE BOUGHT SOMETHING A £200 MONTEGO IS ADVERTISED. BALLS!

 

GLWTS, hopefully a shitter hoovers it up.

Did this sell or is it still available? I sent messages to the owner (and non owner to boot) but heard nothing back*

 

* The non owner responded and pointed out that I am a total tit for not reading the advert correctly. Messaging the OP and not the owner (who chipped into the thread later) was a bit of a gaff.
