Volksy
Well this weekend resulted in the purchase (with not a large amount of beer tokens) of a Shitey Chrysler Neon Auto. It actually drives pretty well, bombs along at a fair rate of knots, pretty roomy, the interior plastics seem to be made of semi-recycled milk cartons, and the switchgear seems to be the same qualitee as a late '80s taiwanese ghetto blaster. The power steering pump groans a bit, but think a new belt may help that out.will post some pics soon
Mr_Bo11ox
Stick a nitrous bottle on and go drag racing like in that classic internet story!I like the look of these cars actually. Theyre pretty distinctive. Defo weapons grade shite though. Some geezer at my work has one with a set of headlight gimp masks and a daft reg plate that almost spells some unfathomable word which is seemingly important to him. Twat. Volksy
I think they look pretty cool, frameless doors FTW!Feel like i should be cruisin about in a hawian shirt and sunnys for the '90's 'Florida rent-a-car' look!

hotford00
Had the dubious privalige of bombing around the sunshine state in one of them a few years ago, it was around the 4th of july and we went to a fireworks display at Deland airport and my 2 children (13 and 14 then ) asked if they could sit on the front edge of the roof so they could see better. You guessed, it the roof dented, fortunately on the way back to drop off the car at the hire company we got caught in a pretty horrendous hailstorm!!. I apologised to the clerk for the state of the roof, he said "Oh its ok sir your the tenth car weve got back in that was damaged in that hailstorm" cue great sye of relief
pogweasel
Chap I work with a bit asked me (as fountain of all car knowledge ) if these are any good. Because he thought they 'looked good value'. But then he has a real talent for picking fast-depreciating hounds. I told him to go for it, but only if it's very VERY cheap. And I get first dibs on his Omega for very very VERY cheap.

Pillock
Harmless generic transport. They're not overly offensive but I wouldn't fight crowds to get hold of one.Although an old guy at work has one, looks pretty tatty but hardly paid anything for it. Takes great delight come end of shift doing the 'dual carriageway drag race' against all the youngsters in their hot hatches and winning. Not sure if it has a great engine or he's a total nutjob but either way, it shifts.
r.welfare
I think these things have pretty decent lumps in 'em and should be relatively long-lived given the Yanks tend not to tolerate anything that's too fragile. Should be the tougher 3-speed autobox too, although that will probably hit economy. I guess the only issue is getting secondhand parts given they didn't sell a huge number here - but then, ebay.com be your friend in this case. Volksy
Isn't the engine derived from some sort of ancient Mitsi lump? It's certainly not refined in anyway shape or form, and the box (3 speed) seems agricultural to say the least. It punts along pretty well though, Kick down certainly propells you to the horizon at a fair speed, granted with a fair bit of noise and fuss. Mines done 168k and seems to have hung together pretty well despite the apparent fragility of the trim. Put it this way there are a fair amount of rattles and squeeks but nothing is hanging off or missing. (A highly irritating rattle from the passenger seat was stopped with a swift punch to the squab)On the A64 back from York the other day it was doing over the limit at around 3000 rpm. Seems thirsty, however it also has a oddly small fuel tank, £20 took it from rock bottom empty to over half full, so I don't think its any more thirsty than my old Saab. All in all jobs it seems to need doing are a service, new aux belt, and a few bits tightening up here and there. Its got a full set of new tyres (granted cheap brand 'ditch seekers') which struggle to put the power down even with moderate starts, although its supposed to have 132bhp, of which the majority dont seem to have been sent to the glue factory just yet. r.welfare
I thought it was a reduced-bore version of the 2.2 K Car lump, with a 16-valve head bolted on.
Volksy
C@nting Hoare Balls.. Florida rental car has decided to dump its sump into the water system.. still runs great, however dont think it will last very long...... MEH!
r.welfare
Lob some K-Seal in it as a temporary fix - gotta be worth a go, and probably more likely to work on low-tech Merkin iron than on, say, a K-Series.
outlaw118
Theres a black one near me, lowered to within an inch of the ground, big orange alloys and "cobra" stripes.I'll try and get a photo, To be honest, I quite like the look of it... Volksy
Well this went today, had it on Gumtree for £100  Why at that price level do you get all the bottomfeeders calling you up asking the most ridiculous questions!?!  And loads of them texting me about the car, I don't do text at the best of times, so i certainly aint gonna get involved in a round of textual intercourse with a mong who cant even speak - never mind type - correctly.  It actually looked quite good in the pics, better than it did in the flesh.    Thankfully someone came and paid the asking price and drove it away! Volksy
The MOT and Tax had run out, and it had a weepy radiator and a suspect headgasket failure, so all in all it looked, and went ok, but i didn't count on it lasting much longer. The head gaskets on these are pretty much a service item so i've learnt. But for the money I paid for it it wasn't really worth fixing.
Mr_Bo11ox
Shiter's Law: the lower the price - the more people can afford it - the higher the number of brain-dead morons who can afford it - the more dumb ass questions and text come down the wire!
