Citroen C5 3.0 V6 Exclusive - £500

One of the last left that were marked to go in my clear out - I've tried to justify keeping it but one C5 V6 will hopefully suffice.

Key facts:

2002, I'm the third owner, 59k miles, full MOT. Location - Belfast

About the car:

Probably the perfect spec C5 for a shiter. It's the Exclusive model which shouldn't be confused with the higher "Exclusive SE". This one does NOT have navigation, heated seats, leather, a sunroof or electrically folding mirrors. It DOES have sumptuous dull velour, a splash of plastic wood on the dash and a 6 disc CD Changer.

It is powered by an engine as smooth and surprising as it's excellent suspension (which is working perfectly) - the 3.0 V6 petrol with 210bhp. The auto box is lovely, it has a tiptronic mode which the lever falls into very easily from D - the previous owner ingeniously cut an eraser to fill the tiptronic selection gap to prevent the car inadvertently dropping over and the car then staying in whatever gear it was in at the time. So if you're feeling frisky, after pressing the sport buttons for the suspension and gearbox, one must remember to remove the eraser and place in a safe place before taking control of the gear selection. You're then free to surprise others in something that otherwise blends quite happily into the background....

I bought it off an elderly gent in a rather nice suburb of Belfast who was giving up driving. It had 57k miles when I got it a year ago, it's now got 59k.

There is little paper history, however there is a sticker from a large Citroen dealership in the drivers visor saying the next service is due at the current mileage - so I can presume it's been reasonably well serviced, it certainly gives off that vibe. As for the cambelt - I can't be sure if it's been done or not.

From the start, the ABS and ESP lights have been coming on frequently, and giving annoying warning beeps as they do. Plus putting the STOP and service lights on with it. THEY ARE NOW PRETTY MUCH PERMANTELY ON - Christmas should last all year on the dash of this C5.

I've had a Lexia attached - the fault is a sticking internal electro valve within the ABS pump.

Other than that there's a few minor scuffs around the bodywork, NO DENTS, and a cig burn on the drivers seat base.

My grandmother used the car back in July to commute to Donegal and it behaved faultlessly - though I got an ear bending about telling her it "wasn't bad on fuel". She's used to doing that trip in a 1.6 HDi C4......

So it's a very usable floaty barge with an extremely pleasing V6 burble. I have no doubt it'll run for triple this mileage for many happy years providing you've an ABS fault friendly MOT tester or want to invest in a new pump.

It is a nice spec, despite lacking the few key luxuries the Exclusive badge usually brings. It has automatic xenon headlights, auto wipers which annoyingly shut the windows when it begins to rain when you're driving along. Climate control with ice cold AC, 4 leccy windows, cruise control and alloy wheels with plenty of tread on the tyres.

Oh and the standard C5 turning circle which is about the same as a 747.

Will happily swap for more merde.

Luke.
