hotford00
Hello fella's , having just looked at the Russian Banger racing post it has just given me an idea, whilst your trundling around various scrapyards I wondering if you could look out for a 1300 vauxhall engine(Astra,Cavalier,Nova)as I'm having a hell of a job trying to locate one. Its for my new shite project for going round in elongated circles next season, its a saloon stock car I'm currently building. If its in the north all the better but I do travel in the truck for work, any help would be greatly appreciated.

pogweasel
Surely a route around some Vaux forums would turn one up? Somewhere like 'migweb' if you can abide all the pigshit-thick mongs or similar where older stuff is getting original engines ousted in favour of 'redtops' & 'ecotecs'.... M'coli
Surely a route around some Vaux forums would turn one up? Somewhere like 'migweb' if you can abide all the pigshit-thick mongs or similar where older stuff is getting original engines ousted in favour of 'redtops' & 'ecotecs'....It's not as easy these days. Vaux stopped producing their excellent 1300 engine in the early 1990's and subbed in the 1200 and 1400, but the head design of the 1400 isn't as good as the 1300 (The best 1400s are a mix of 1400 bottom end and 1300 head, or 1300 with 1200 pistons!). The fact that efi came in soon after, and as there is more than one type of motorsport division with a 1300cc class too means they become saught after. reallyloud
I came across this a few months ago, and when I visited the site in late September it was still there and in pretty good nick considering.  More importantly its a 1300 and virtually complete. You might as well get in touch with the yard and see if its still there - google 'Bert Haynes Challow' and you'll find the details - bad news is that the car is in Oxfordshire, but piss easy to get to from the M4/A34. The owner is one of the friendliest scrappies I know and is quite sensible with his prices.
hotford00
Thanks to all, I have tried quite a few vauxhall related sites and the general consensus is "you'll be lucky" but I have been on the bay and have located one on the Wirral, but as this a new formula that will be running at Buxton Raceway next year and thatI will be building atleast 4 cars for other racers its a case of the more engines than can be sourced the better. Please keep youre info coming Any bits like carbs(pierburg) and inlet and nova type exhaust manifolds would be of use. Maybe we could have an Autoshite racing team? M'Coli I could do a swap with 1800 engine and box SPI if youre interested!! That second one you found is the one I have contacted
VWPowered
sure the ol' 2E and 2E2 from VW's also fitted Nova's...
hotford00
Thanks VW, but only engine transplants allowed are 1300 into corsa's and tigra's. I was chatting to a racer from another promotion at the last meeting and he mentioned 1300 polo's he said he had one that went like shit of a shiny shovel so that might give me another option.I was also considering a MK3 fester with a 1300 CVH if only I could find one of them!! Owain-328i
I was also considering a MK3 fester with a 1300 CVH if only I could find one of them!!You wont ever find one of them, the mk3 Fiesta never came with a 1300CVH, you either get the 1300 pushrod valencia type engine, or the 1400CVH.The 1300 CVH was last seen in VERY early mk2 Fiesta's (until about 1985/6) And mk3 Escorts. hotford00
Yes Owain I do realise that, however does anyone know if the valencia is modifiable. The rules are quite restrictive and wont even allow putting a kent crossflow in,but you can use a carb in corsas and tigras
mk2_craig
The Valencia isn't a brilliant lump for tuning, but there's a fair amount you can do to them as there was a rally programme for the Ka when it came out which has the later Endura E version of the motor. Most 1300 Fiestas were five-doors however, if you're swapping engines then you might as well slot in a 1300 CVH which is a better base to start from although getting scarce nowadays. M'coli
M'Coli I could do a swap with 1800 engine and box SPI if youre interested!! Thanks, but no thanks - I just fancy the Nova GTE engine for summat difference, but having dragged an engine out of a rotten Metro shell to put in my HLE I don't think that I can be bothered with an engine swap at the moment!!
