so, the mid-life crisis came to nothing and to cap it all, I lost my job. With the job went the company car BUT! there is good news fellow 'shiters.

A quick trawl of the ebygumbay spotted this little pearler, a quick phone call followed by some flannel and a sob story got it removed from auction and handed to me in exchange for 300 of your earth pounds

three-spoke alloys and spoiler, lovin' it

air-con (working!) and a CD player with a Sheryl Crow disc stuck in it

approved used motoring

all joking aside, it is a 2 owner (in the same family) from new, fsh and 91thousand miles, 10 months mot and even 5 weeks road rent. foolish not too, I think

it seems to torque steer a bit, is this normal? I've been out of FWD for the last 6 years

Looks alright that. Sheryl Crowe notwithstanding mind.

Had loads of the last batch of Escorts when I worked at Ford and whilst they were definitely nothing special, they were an ok drive and a thoroughly acceptable way to get about.

Apparently, it was very possible to get Escort vans airborne on the back road from Haworth to Colne if you drove them 'briskly' . I wouldn't* know about that because obviously I never* did it. And never* found out they tend to land a bit front heavy and twat the bottom of the front bumper to buggery.

5 weeks tax? Cars don't come with tax carried over anymore, have you made sure you have taxed this yourself?

the previous owner had put 6 months on it back when tax discs were all the rage mate

Sorry to hear you lost your company car.

Sorrier to hear you lost your job.

Sorriest of all you got an Escort.

Still, for £300 you can't complain.

true, and by running around in this one, I should be able to avoid having to sell the Galaxie

Don't matter mate when he taxed it, as of 01 October car tax is not transferred to the new owner, therefore it sounds like its currently un-taxed? The previous owner will be refunded for those 5 weeks remaining when the transfer goes through at DVLA.

Is it the finnesse model? When I met the mrs we had w plate black finesse estate. Think the last models where either a flight being a basic trim or finesse what had alloys air con etc. Ours had a cassette deck in it though with only outputs for 2 speakers so think it was a head unit from a early bog spec one. Ours did about 30 mpg average from its mighty* 1.6 lump and once had an indicated 120mph on a private road*. Didn't sound good at that speed and felt very floaty. Overall not bad for its size though and handled ok in the bends.

My neighbour had one of the last X plate Escorts from new until this summer. Don't know what happened to it as it's been replaced by a new Honda Civic. Bet it was low mileage too...

Sheryl Crow. The Punto I picked up at the weekend had a McFly CD still in it...

Essdeewon's point is that whatever the previous owner did, it isn't transferable now.  There must be thousands of untaxed cars on the road now because of the confusion.

Sorry to hear about the job, but it looks a good car for the money.

thank you for that, I had misunderstood (been in company cars for 6 years).

It has a disc that is valid until the end of nov, yet, from what you gents tell me, it is untaxed?

looks like I'm taxing it tomorrow then, cheers chaps

edit - doovla check, he say Escort taxed, but I'm guessing that because the V5C is yet to arrive

Yeah you need to tax it, as of 01 October all tax discs are basically worthless to a new owner.

Your not the first and you certainly wont be the last person this new tax regime catches out  8)

I know just where you mean, next to Watersheddles Reservoir, and I have have never* done the same in a Mini, Y10, Panda 4x4, Rover 214, or a Samara. No, not* me.

Oh it could, it could be a James Blunt CD, or a TDi VAG.

I'm forever getting Volkswagen TDis stuck in my CD player and they're a right faff to get back out again.

I don't like these things but for £300 even I'd be tempted as it looks a right wee smasher. Sorry to hear about the redundancy though.
