Bought some time for a phase 1 R25

So this is now mine - or at least I've paid for it!

I spoke to the seller and suggested I hit the BIN button to reserve a viewing of the car - if I think I can take it on then I will, otherwise I'll leave it. Worth £50 just as a reprieve from being scrapped I feel - at that price I'm sure that was where it was destined.

The thing that concerns me is the state of the chassis rail - just outboard of the exhaust manifold in the engine bay photo. I'll just have to see.

I really shouldn't be taking anything on just now - life situation far from ideal - just didn't want to see this crushed without knowing for sure what it was like.

Even if it is beyond repair - I think the GTX had the UN1 'box, beloved of the kit car crowd.

So a stay of execution - and the seller doesn't need it shifted until someone is ready to do so (nice chap - laid back, owned it from new).

If anyone else is keen to have it - PM me.

No i don,t think it has the collectable UN1 box, which has killed so many V6 Turbos..........Its got an NG3 i think??Seening this reminds me how nice 25s are,i checked up on my 25 Turbo last week and its such a lovely, and rare car,25s are thin on the ground now, save it if possible.

Not sure it does have the UN1, the V6 Turbo has for sure. Maybe worth double checking.

I made a quick check before bidding  This is a list I found - though I guess the fact that the GTX is in the list doesn't mean all GTX's used it! 21 Turbo UN1-013 25 GTX UN 1-03 25V6 UN 1-04 Alpine GTA * UN1-05 25 Blindee UN 1-06 Alpine Turbo UN1-07 25V6 Turbo UN1-08 Alpine A310V6 369-02 Espace (earlier models) UN1

That's a fabulous looking car and a nice colour - pleez save if you can!!

Looks good doesn't it? :D Those bumpers look almost colour coded - but I think the poor light gives their greyness a bluey tinge.I'll see what I can do for it - or offer it to someone who can sort it. My first concern was to get it off t'bay before it was bought for scrap.

I might stand corrected....,just from memory i thought a GTX had a NG3 but Mouseflakes has the list.

That was just a list from a kit car site - pointing people at where they might find them. It's quite possible only some GTX's had the box.Not a big concern really - just helped me to think it was all a good idea! :D

Okay - so not quite as heroic as it could have been.I went to see this R25 just before Chrimbo and it wasn't quite in a state where I feel I can do anything for it at the moment - it would just sit outside here at my house instead of there in Devon. It needs more than just a few days' work, and as I'm currently doing a few welded repairs to my R30 I wouldn't have been able to recommission the R25 as quickly as I'd hoped. The car is not bad - but it had suffered a bit stored as it was, under trees. There was a bit of rust on one wheelarch (all outer skin only - inner was sound) and the sill bottoms were a bit patched and crusty. It's not that the seller was hiding this stuff - he was surprised to see this himself when he moved it away from the hedge it had grown into! The interior was VERY damp - very smelly sadly. It would have been the nicest part of the car - I love those blue interiors. Sadly - I think some of it was probably rotting.Mechanically - unable to tell what the engine is like - radiator needs refitting properly - not an exact fit actually - not sure what model it's from. Brakes were all free - so that's good! The chrome inserts on the bumpers are rotten.Very nice owner - very fond of the car - owned from new and sad to see it was looking a bit run down. Showed me some 80's photos of other Renners in the family - a 12, 18 and 20 lined up together in one!The final outcome was that I'd leave the car there, but if I found a spare space at home to put it and some cheap transport I was welcome to go and pick it up. The owners also said if anyone else I knew wanted to save it, so far as they were concerned it was already paid for and someone else could take it on.Rather pleasingly, by the time I was leaving, the owner was seriously considering moving the car to covered storage to save it deteriorating - so, overall, I think a good outcome for now.Get in touch with me if you're interested in the car and I can supply more info!! It is nice - I think the interior is probably the biggest challenge. If time and space allows I may go back for it myself - but for now it's probably best off where it is - 'specially if it's going to end up indoors.
