Divla crash highlighting double tax and other probs

Methinks people have missed the point to my previous post.  It is now potentially way easier for some random person to find out your home address directly from the number plate on your vehicle without having to follow you home.  If this doesn't worry you then that's just fine, don't worry about it, if it does then don't use the DD facility.

  • 4 weeks later...

Wearing my IdiotHat....  :-P

My annual 'disc' - replaced with a humourous circle, subsequently - expires Sept 2015. Yes Yes Yes... search shows I'm fully paid up!

So then... I will get a usual reminder letter in da post, I will walk over to my P.O. and pay a wodge of cash and get a 'receipt', stamped??

& end of???

Matto, anyone can write to the DVLA with a reg number, say its been dumped on their drive or something, and get an address for a fiver.

Plus, it may be outsourced now but how many people in Swansea would have swapped an address for a packet of fags or something.

I've always renewed my car tax the old fashioned way, using the "send your documents the following Post Office" option. For some reason I cannot comprehend I sent mine to a Post Office in Earl's Court, west London (I live in north London!) and received a tax disc back by return of post, together with the M.O.T. & the insurance certificate. The cheque was EVENTUALLY cashed about 6 weeks later! Happy days!

I might (might) try the "tax it on line" option next time and then check the car's taxed on the DOOVLA site, but I must confess, I like the piece of coloured paper in the windscreen! Probably my age (I'm 54!)

I bought another shitty old BMW last month. Sent off the PORN form to PORN it, heard fuck all. By Oct 30th it wasn't showing as PORNED so I tried to PORN it online - no chance. Rang some DVLA person snd they said to send a PORN form in again but registered post. Now showing as PORNED but am waiting for a £35 fine for not PORNING it immediately. Waiting for them to do it so I can enter a 4 month correspondence telling them to FRO and getting to the steps of the county court before they bottle it and admit they are CUNTS.

Erm..... Bad news fella, you can be as old as the hills and the only bit of paper you get is a letter from Queenie at 100. No discs any more, however you tax.

I taxed the Daihatsu online, which makes it the second car I taxed online, because I taxed it online after I taxed the RoD online.

Again, it was such a piece of piss, that I let Junkdaughter #2 do it next time. She's eight.

That paying monthly deal is taking such a monkey off my back, it's well worth the tenner admin fee.

I'm surprised they don't charge more.

The whole thing is a huge step in the right direction, no doubt.

I still wonder, who is paying for the all encompassing surveillance system they keep threatening us with.

I hope it's cyclists and pedestrians.

Although, I'm more and more convinced it's a legend and doesn't really exist. The government says it exists,

what better proof do you need, that it doesn't?

And even if it does, it would have been made by the government, hence it won't work anyway.

I'm completely at peace with the whole thing, and I'm a conspiracy theorist, mind you.

Yes, they knew that given the lack of cameras on all roads other than motorways, A roads and busy commuter routes, people were bound to start avoiding road fund* taxes again.

Which, as a very bright spark in Whitehall pointed out, would lead to more detections of Yorkshire ripper sorts.

Just saw this thread,so checked to see if my new car which I bought on the 18/10 with a disc in the window till Feb15 was still showing as taxed. I've been checking every day or so and on Wednesday it was still taxed, just checked and it says expired on 18/10.

I've just taxed it on the monthly and it reckons the tax will start on 1/11 and the first payment will be taken on 21/11. So will I get a penalty for the period 18/10 to 1/11? Watch this space, but the fact I've got a disc in the window and I've not had the logbook yet officially telling me that tax is no longer transferable it could be interesting.
