I reckon that was the Toyota I was offered on the phone one day, not my cup of tea but unusual and to my mind far more interesting than an Aston/E-Type/Austin-Healey.

Went back yesterday afternoon and the event wasnt really any less dull than Saturday morning, couple of pics to follow but I didnt waste much time there. I did however enquire as to the story behind the Hirst Wedding Hire Toyota, which was being displayed by the local Perodua dealer (!) on behalf of the widow of the chap who bought it new in 1980 and offers were being invited, apparently someone considered it worth £2000 which was still less than the old dear was hoping for but we both agreed that 2k was a pretty fair price for a slice of low-mileage retro rwd not ae86 action.

Wow this is way cool, a Leyland Cruiser. I've only ever seen one ther pic of these, and that was a brochure shot in a Truck book I have. Most T45 artics have the original, wider cab. I think the slimline cab was codenamed C40 or something.

No idea!

Think thats a German Steyr Puch Halflinger.
Nearly,I think you'll find it's a Pinzgauer.Can't see from the picture,but they came as 4 & 6 wheelers.The Haflinger is much smaller,with a 2 cylinder engine & much less bodywork.
Whatever it is it's as cool as fook - looks like a lego technic set I had.

I've seen it out and about since then and it is a 6-wheeler. Really does look like a plastic garden shed on wheels!!

What ho shite fans, I'm resurfacing from the murky depths of a rough old twelve months after which thankfully my XR2 and Sierra tat hoard remains intact and there has been a new addition (it is pictured on Shite Meister's photo thread).

Anyhoo, none of you will probably remember this from Sep 30th '07

Time for another update. Excuse the quality on some of these, the cameraphone is definitely on its way out now and sacked me off while trying to get an impromptu snap of a BEIGE Y-REG AMBASSADOR that against all odds had somehow found its way to the island. Leics registration too.

Oh fer Christ's sake..............the problem with anti Drink/Drive campaigns is this. Most people [when sober] wouldn't dream of doing it. However, after eleventy pints of Thundering Gut rot,"most people" lose all grip on reality, and that's when the trouble starts.

Just wondered if there was any way of checking.

Hi Keef

That photo is apparently from 22 years ago so it's a pretty long shot!

As a rule, if a Channel Island vehicle is declared broken up or exported, its registration mark is usually re-issued a short time later. Alderney comes under the jurisdiction of Guernsey and I presume follows the same practice, though there's only 2400 residents there so I suspect there might be a lot of un-issued combinations (when I visited a few years ago the highest numbers were something like AY28xx).

Therefore I would start with the Guernsey vehicle licensing office tel. 01481 243400, first question is do they cover Alderney as well and if not who should be contacted. Once you're onto the right person, they might be reluctant to reveal information, but if asked simply whether that registration is listed as being allocated to a red Wolseley they should be able to give a yes or no answer. Guernsey only computerised their records fairly recently, and I don't know if their old paper-based system has been transferred to public archive like in Jersey, so assuming Alderney's the same finding out more might either be impossible or involve a fair bit of digging.

Hope this helps. The last Crab I saw in Jersey was the white one pictured early on in this thread about four years ago. I've seen it more recently looking derelict on an industrial estate - but possibly lined up for restoration.

Guernsey licencing authority are a damn sight more helpful than thier Jersey counterparts, and if you phrase the question as described above, you should be ok. Alderney based cars seem to lead a fairly hard life..................

Few more from December. This garage usually has something of note - for many years a number of Auntie Rovers were resident becoming more and more overgrown - all cleared out a few years back but other oldish stuff often lying around including the dying Fiesta Ghia that I rescued from the back yard, fixed and re-imported to Britain.

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r254/...
And opposite, a 1988-ish Espace 8)

http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r254/...
Line-up of ageing tin. The Mini has been on site as long as I can remember but never seems to deteriorate! Could well be in use - neglected to check windscreen disc. What's in between that and the Suzuki jeep??

Seeing as we're in bump-to-prevent-forgotten-threads-disappearing mode, I thought that rather than post some of the probably hundreds of photos I've taken in the last 3 years instead I'd revisit page 1 of this thread from nearly six years ago to see whats still around.

Vitesse doesn't appear to have moved in that entire period, though different stuff is now parked either side. Espacetic does move though is always on site as far as I can tell, usually accompanied by a circa 1992 example. Everything else away now, fate unknown.
Nothing more interesting than that for now I'm afraid!
