M'coli
Been on the lookout for a good, cheap estate that ticks several boxes and appear to have found one on RR, an Audi 80 with a 2litre engine:-However, have fitted 2 new tyres to the Cavalier (Contis!) and circumstances now mean that even its daily 3 mile journey to walk the dog is surplus to requirements (the tunnel under the A1 that leads to the cycle path has re-opened) means that the £20 petrol that I put in it at the weekend will probably get me to Crimbo, do I buy the Audi? M'coli
I'm a Scot living in Yorkshire, FFS! The famous Roman miser, Titus Acrabsarse. has nowt on me!
pogweasel
It DOES look a lot of motor for a pifflingly small amount of money, had me tempted. I'd go for it. Is the Cav a carb-fed affair? You'd probably get near the price of the audi for it GR8 4 BANGAZ.
Torsten2001
The Cavalier sounds superb! Show us eh?Audi is dull and will blow a head gasket fo'sure!

M'coli
Forgot to mention that the Cavalier's not an estate, and the reason it's £0 is because I already own it!!! Still, it's a goody, I've done a bit of welding to it so it's solid in all the right places (sills, rear spring mount but has a rusty arch) but it will do 45mpg on a run and soaks up bumps brilliantly due to Monroe Gasmatics that I bought off eBay in 2004ish. The wheels and tyres won't be going when I sell it - 15" steels(I like steels, doesn't shout too loudly) so worth more to me to keep them.
Guest greenvanman
That Audi is pretty if rather bland. Could you really fit all that much more stuff in it than your Cavalier? I say keep the Vauxhall - far more 'Autoshite' and cheaper to fix if it goes wrong. Spend the £350 on welding rods instead
Father Ted
Keep the Cav. - The money you spend on the Audi would pay for a lot of petrol, isopon, 15" Goodride tyres etc etc etc ferret.
CortinaDave
Cavalier..no question. What a fantastic machine for so little cash.. they are great, cheap to fix, mega MPG and "thats a bit different" factor.Bugger the audi. worthy but dull in comparison
M'coli
Could you really fit all that much more stuff in it than your Cavalier? No, and that's one of the boxes to be ticked - it doesn't need to be a huge estate. I've looked at the Polo/Seat Cordoba as well, but have reasoned that if I'm going to be paying the "big" tax then it might have well have some proper grunt. VW group seats are excellent, hard but comfortable with lots of support for your back.Good to see that enough people have mentioned its blandness, I don't know if I want a grey car. If it was green on the other hand, without a sunroof, I'd be really tempted.
garethj
Cav is the winner here. Parts for the Audi like tyres, exhaust and discs will be a lot more ££££And it's no better for what you need than the Vauxhall
richardthestag
Keep the CavI had one new in 88, threw 180k miles at it in 5 years and once I stopped using GM dealers for service it never missed a beat.Pissed off that I sold it
r.welfare
Another vote for the Cav here. They look so right in Nordic Blue.If you don't need what the Audi can offer over the Cav, then I wouldn't. Nice example though on the face of it. hotford00
On a purely selfish note I'd vote for the Audi , but thats only because I'm in need of a 1300 cav engine on a carb (anyone got one?) but on the other hand it does look to good for swapping the engine around
aled
stick with the cav, parts for german shite are expensive.
Split_Pin
Cav all the way for me, the Audi is fairly anodyne by comparison.Watch any old 80's repeat on cable or sat, esp detective dramas, and the streets are full of Cavs and Sierras back then and it will make you glad you kept it.
