Partridge
Hi chaps, There's an XJ40 come up for sale cheaply that looks a little bit not borked for 400 quid. If discussions get serious and I end up buying the thing, is there anybody around my area (Fareham, Hampshire) who could lend me the use of a drive/garage/special XJ40 skip for a couple of months or so for a drink, while I get my money in order. It may not happen, but if it does I'll need storage. Cheers

rml2345
If I had storage and it was around Fareham, Hampshire then you'd be more than welcome to it.But I don't. Soz. eddyramrod and Partridge
Stanky
Didn't realise you were a fellow Fareham-ite, south coast riviera and all that. Presumably the storage would need to be off the queens highways for reasons of taxation? Sadly I can't accommodate any more vehicles on my drive without causing next door to have a complete mental breakdown - they already moan about the oil stains and general detritus from the two cars I currently have! However, I may be able to put you in touch with people who may be sympathetic to the cause and allow off road parking facilities to be used, I'll enquire and drop me a PM if the deal does go through. Depending how legal it is to drive, there are a few places I have in mind, of varying distances from Fareham. Partridge
Cavcraft
It's a 3.6 and for the price and length of MOT is a farking massive bargain. I'm skint at the moment Or I really would be all over it. Partridge
mercrocker
Sorry I cannot help you, Mr. P. I only say that because I aren't so far away and didn't want you to think I is miserable bastard. Have more cars than holes to put them already I am afraid..... Partridge
Partridge
Cheers, guys and thanks a bunch Stanky! I would probably keep it taxed anyway to avoid trouble. No word from the seller yet, but here's hoping...

Magnificent Rustbucket
Ooh, 3.6 - DigiDash! It sounds a HUGE bargain too. Nice work! I reckon these early XJ40s are the most interesting ones by some margin. They'd be my choice if I didn't own one with a sentimental attachment already. A lesser '40, the ones with creeping degrees of X300ness like my battery in boot car seem diluted and a bit too sensible. Is it a Sovereign, or the XJ6? Seriously, I really hope you get it. The world needs more XJ40 enthusiasts and to be one yet not own a '40 is simply a crime against nature. The digidash cars have earned themselves a bit of a reputation for neediness over the years, but the problems seem to be fairly easily solvable now, if threads on XJ40.com are anything to go by.That said, there is a thread on there running at the moment entitled "Raging dashboard demons", whose Russian author (these cars are a mystery in more than one nation) claims he generally solves it with punching. dugong
The car's pretty close to the lovely* area that I live in, so if DELIVERY SERVICE is needed, say something or forever do one while I eat a Tunnock's Tea Cake.

How much longer will they stay this cheap? And it's probably worth at least double that in bits (not that I'd break it). Minimad5
UmBongo
It has a phone like what The Equalizer had in his Jag. I would definitely buy it...if I was mentally ill. Shep Shepherd and Partridge

Magnificent Rustbucket
That looks to be a very nice car and an absolute bargain at the money. It looks to be Alpine green metallic with a biscuit interior. I like it. Biscuit leather is really quite rare on the XJ40 in the UK, though much more common on US cars. The Jaguar branded Panasonic car phone is the same as the one which was in my car when it was new. They were a dealer fit option, and mightily expensive back then. I wish my car still had its phone, but it was taken out years ago and before it looked cool. Some of them can be made to work again without much work, but I'm not sure which ones. Any Jaguar branded car phone seems to be quite sought after now, which is one reason why I haven't retrofitted one in my car. Partridge

Partridge
Y U NOT BUY XJ40 YETIt all depends on what a contact says tomorrow to see if I've been successful in flogging a contract to him...if so I will buy with my CA£HMONIEZ. It may be gone by then, in which case I will supremely browned off. I need to be a little bit sensible sadly. Still thanks to Stanky I can haz storage. Partridge
Well I'm not getting a good feeling about this. The seller said he would send me more pictures, and hasn't. What's worse it someone else has apparently arranged to collect the car (making it, in my mind at least, sold), but the seller hasn't replied to them after two days..
