That's right, you too could look as cool as Crockett and Tubbs above in this proud piece of British motoring history. Due to the impending purchase of this Merc my faithful Acclaim needs to go. I really need to take some more recent photos. Right, Good points: 51000 miles. Good, strong engine which has recently a new head gasket, rocker gasket, cambelt, plugs, coolant, oil, filter, plug leads, radiator and fan belt. New discs & pads and recent new rear shoes and very good tyres all round. A very tidy brown velour interior with some fancy Bluetooth CD player which i can't work out how to use. A new MOT with no advisories and tax until end of October. Smooth 5 speed gearbox Done a 600 mile round trip for Shitefest back in May loaded up with car magazines and it didn't miss a beat, Bad stuff. Starter motor bendix slightly sticks when first starting which makes a strange noise. Wheels could do with repainting again. Bodywork a bit scabby around the edges, but not unsightly. It's had a new pair of rear arches at some point but the offside one was poorly filled so doesn't have a swage line like it should. Got a patch in the boot on the rear wheel tub, a common area but it's solid now. Sunroof used to drip in heavy rain so I've sealed it with mastic, it still slightly drips in very rain but I suspect it's fixable. Back box has just started to blow so I've bodged it for now with a tin can, screws and some exhaust paste, it's got a new mot so there's no panic on that one. So there you go, warts n all. I'm making it sound worse than it is but trust me, It's pretty good for one of these. The car genuinely drives really nicely, very light controls and it's perfectly quick enough for modern traffic, 1335cc twin carb Honda EN engine which is a dream, cheap tax and insurance too. Any questions just ask, So how much for all this grade A* GOLD then?.. £800 ono, which i think is pretty fair as I paid more than that for it a year ago and spent a fortune getting it up to scratch since. Am actually quite tempted cos I think it's an ace little middle-distance runabout, but fook knows where I'd put it. RoadworkUK Posted July 29, 2014 Share Posted July 29, 2014 Forgive me for gushing out a load of hyperbollocks here, but I cannot overstress how much of a giant-killer the Acclaim is on a country road. Keep it in second and third with the engine spinning at 3500+ and you can take any corner at any speed and easily keep in touch with Vector W8s and Cizeta V16Ts. An Acclaim can do the 'Ring in just over seven minutes when driven properly, and driving one will make you more virile and improves your IQ. We did the lot using OE spec parts from stock (we were a BL dealer). All filters, brakes, fluids, even new Honda dizzy cap, rotor arm and HT leads. Gave it back to the bloke, who left it parked on council land while he sorted tax and insurance. Guess what? It got uplifted and crushed as it was untaxed. That and a Rover 3500 we'd similarly overhauled. The Acclaim's twin motor bike carbs were a bit difficult to tune mind you, but the little thing flew. I've just taken same more porn photos for you to oogle over. The front valance isn't perfect. and this wing has a small hole in it. This is the rubbish wheel arch repair, also the lower valance is a bit bubbly (it's the worse bit on the car) but it's still solid. Good, strong engine.
