63 Sierras

SHIT THE BED!!! Why did you do that? I had a few, but 63?The oldest one I had(YGY914Y) was about the best, a light metallic green 1.6L with the optional five speed and standard fit P21 push button sounds. A superb car that I stupidly drove to a breakers in 1997 when the MOT ran out. The worst was easily an '88 E plate Stapphire 1.6L in death blue that I bought in 1991 from Witney auction. I thought a leggy modern car would be better than a Mark 5 Cortina. Wrong. This Emax powered turd wouldn't pull your foreskin back, absolute rubbish. I had it 2 months and fired it back into the auction it came from, replacing it with a really minty V plate Cortina 1.6L, RMB90V.

I've had something like 20-25 cars since 1995, all Fords. Newest = '99 Mondeo (still on fleet strength), oldest = '82 Fiesta, sold five years ago.

Never been tempted to try anything else? :o
All the time! Very nearly had a Triumph 2000 mkII as my second car. Was sorely tempted by a '98 Cadillac Seville STS last year and am currently pondering whether to chase up a low mileage 2CV-engined Visa that I've heard about sitting idle with only a dented door for a fault. But I'm holding out for an early spec R14 ;)

A MkI Visa?? Get on it!! Virtually as rare as a 14 and as you've already located it, about a million times more likelihood of you owning one! Nobody on this board has got one that I know of....infact has anybody on here got any kind of Visa whatsoever? No? Then you can make a bold statement of loneliness/standing out from the crowd like me!

I loved sierras and for ages bought nothing but.Just done a quick dvla session to see if any of the good ones are still out there - answer no  I hardly see any now.. they've literally all been wiped out! I reckon there must be more late cortinas now than mk1 sierrasOnly one that seems a remote possibilty is the last one i owned A582PES which was a crystal green 2.3 Ghia i had in 2003 ish.on a SORN apparently.

Had a licence since 2004 so I've had 6, 3 of which I own now :(

...What happened to the other 3?...
Well it went a bit like this:1. 93' K-reg Vauxhall Astra in Red with 17" alloys, smoothed boot bought for £70! (Joint purchase, before I had a licence) scrapped as the clutch was already burnt out, had nowhere to store it, the car was a total shed, didn't have the money to replace it, I was young and stupid.2. 89 F-plate Ford Sierra Sapphire Ghia, in Black (Still got the 5-set of pepperpot alloys), first car, given to me for free, loved this car to bits, used for a few months until everything was up, lost job and didnt have the money to - re-tax, re-mot, re-insure it, had no choice but to scrap it for £20, I wish I never did  3. 89' F-reg Rover 827Si, manual with LPG, fast as f*ck, you may have seen it when I first posted on this site, best I've had, ended up crashing it on the way to a job interview, tried to save it but there was more hidden damage, got £500 from the other persons insurance, and sold the car for £150 to a mate, and I've still got the LPG kit off it!The other 3 I own right now:1. 98' S-plate Micra, my mums car, owned since new (Was a display car at Nissan), but registered in my name now, so technically its mine, though to me, its still its hers, she uses it as her daily transport.2. 95' N-plate Rover Sterling, best car I own right now, my daily transport, got everything, leather, electrics etc...3. 90' G-plate Mk1 Rover Sterling, yet to pick this up from my mates house, needs an auto box, bought it as a project, hoping to do it up if I get a job and some money.Lord Sterling

That's how it seems to me too! Where have all the MkI Sierras gone??!! As far as I'm concerned you're more likely to see a MkV Cortina, a MKIII Capri, a MkII Granada, a MkIII Escort or a MkI Fiesta than a MkI Sierra.....was there some kind of programme to rid the streets of them or something!?

A few stand outs from the time I actually bought cars, either side of my 13 years worth of company cars between 1988 & 2001.Good 'uns:1975 Wartburg Knight (first car, character, ride, unique even in 1983)1978 Fiat 128 3P (handling, acceleration)1975 Renault 12TL (so the love affair with French cars began)1985 Peugeot 305 GTX (seats, torque, handling, ride, stop me I'm getting boring ..)1985 Toyota Celica GT (handling, fun, reliable)1995 Peugeot 405 2.0 Auto (just can't fault it)So-so:1977 Citroen GS Pallas (seats crippled me, loved the car)1979 Chrysler Alpine (main redeeming feature only three years old)1979 Peugeot 305 SR (always worried about the camshaft and clutch)1980 Lancia Beta 2000 (thirsty and heavy steering, looked good)1988 Toyota Camry 2.0 GLi Executive (impressive but soulless)1990 Toyota Camry V6 (less impressive & more soulless)Bad 'uns1976 Datsun 120Y (no suspension or brakes)1975 Peugeot 504 Ti (17 mpg didn't help)1988 Toyota Corolla Executive (terminally boring)There's probably loads more which have got forgotten in the mists of time. Incidently, and on a completely different note, if there's any early Genesis fans out there, do yourself a favour and buy the 1970 - 1975 SACD box set just released. It is without doubt the best £90 I have ever spent in my life. And now back to the thread...

It's 1983 so a mk2 probably? I reckon it would be a little bit too shite for me, I can't get on with 957cc Fiestas so a 652cc Citroen with half the cylinders might just encourage me to want it out of my ownership prematurely.

A Visa GTi, now you'd be talking :)

My tally is rather modest in relation to the 23 year timescale!1) 1962 Ford Zodiac MK3, a lovely example, wish I still had it....2) 1967 Ford Anglia 105E custom, quite rapid with a GT cortina engine....3) 1977 Fiat 128 1300CL, loved to rev! trashed by an OAP in a Merc W123....4) 1974 VW Beetle 1300, bright yellow and great fun. Engine suffered a terminal failure so replaced it with a recon 1600 T2 donk.5) 1982 Fiat 128 1300CL, more rev happy action!....6) 1971 VW Beetle 1200, life in the slow lane!....7) 1987 Vauxhall Astra, At the time the newest and most expensive car owned and did less to impress when the camshft got noisey and had to be replaced after a mere 65,000 miles, also had a crap auto choke....8( 1984 Renault 4GTL, brilliant little car and did me for 40,000 trouble free miles in 3 years.9) 1982 BMW 528I, Autobahnstormenwagon, nice apart from all the kippered brake components I had to replace initially....10) Ford Sierra 2.3 Ghia estate, hideous device and a nasty V6 motor that drank oil despite its fairly low mileage.11) 1987 Renault 11 1400 GTL, was forever doing running repairs on this bugger....12) 1984 VW Polo 1300CL, very reliable but crap brakes, and the red paintwork started to fade badly....13) 1988 Volvo 340GL, a superbly dependable car that was very easy to work on, not that it ever needed anything other than routine servicing, and 'er indoors once demolished a brick wall with this car without damaging it....14) 1997 Peugeot 306 diesel, non turbo base spec existance....15) 1989 Toyota MR2 MK2, I choose unwisely and ended up with an example that had a tired engine and suspension, quickly sold on....15) 1993 Peugeot 306TD, great apart from a heater that never produced any heat and the day the cambelt snapped....16) 1995 Ford Mondeo 1800 Verona, very tidy low mileage FSH car that I got for free, and just a few quid to get it an MOT after its 2 years off the road, bit thirsty though....16) 1995 BMW 325TD, Has given stirling service over the last 3 years, and continues to, loads of miles left in it....17) 1964 Ford Zodiac MK3, Back where I started 23 years ago with fords finest!

Eventually did a deal and got P790ONV backAll of the above served as main transport at some point. There have been a few more spares cars.

Edit: Heavens, how could I forget my Sierra

Loved that car for the 3 or 4 months I had it. Bought for 150 quid in 1999 as a stand-in car, as my stand-in Polo needed work & anyway I didn't like it enough to want to fix it (sold it to a lad who did fix it up). But anyway the Sierra was amazingly slow, smoked like a banshee & after I drove it a bit too quickly up the M6 after a car show one day, the engine had an enormous appetite for oil - blew loads of gaskets cos of back pressure. Put it through the local auction & got 90 quid back - wish I had just got it fixed up in retrospect.

You certainly like your Accords & your Cavaliers!

Still got all of my Accords & I'm very fond of Cavaliers & wouldn't say no to another if the right car came along...

My tally is rather modest in relation to the 23 year timescale!1) 1962 Ford Zodiac MK3, a lovely example, wish I still had it....17) 1964 Ford Zodiac MK3, Back where I started 23 years ago with fords finest!

quality but please dont i really dont want to go back to a mk1 cavalier
