cms206
Evening chaps,Getting nowhere fast with anything, so this is up for sale. Again. J714 MCK by cms206, on Flickr'92 J-reg Rover Montego 1.6LX saloon, test is up next month (August 17th I think) but if time allows I'll stick a year's ticket on it, tax til end October. Electric front windows, electric sunroof, central locking, Philips stereo radio cassette, no power steering, 84k on the clock, needed a brake pipe and back box for MOT last year. Tyres good all round, now fitted with a snazzy gold Rover grille but the grey Austin one is included as I'll have no sodding use for it. The paint's not brilliant due to a poor respray a few years back and the paint is peeling off the bottom of the drivers door. Seems fairly rust free and solid underneath. Steering column shroud missing, headlining a bit baggy in the back and the boot release is buggered inside. I've run it on and off for the past year and a bit and it's never failed to start or let me down. Kinda bored with it to be honest... Wobbleritis I think it's called.I'll fire some better photos on later tonight or tomorrow daytime.Looking for around the £450 mark but sensible offers or swaps will be considered. eddyramrod, Charlie Croker, CortinaDave and 7 others
CortinaDave
Magnificent. I've seen this car when it lived over my way and the paint job didnt look too bad to my eyes. When did they stop punting Montegos to the general public? I know they were available up to about '94 but I thought it was fleet/taxi order only for a fair while before that? lisbon_road
Total time warp. A great car. And I think Targa red - a totally period colour that is also a good colour. GLWS.

Have heard stories of P-reg diesel estates for the MOD but I've never seen one. Latest saloon I've seen was an L-reg petrol LX oddly enough. AnthonyG
I've seen a black R reg saloon used as a taxi, was in a South Wales breakers about 2003/4 after a front-ender. May have been ex-MOD. Also there was a N plate diesel saloon driving around in Lampeter, West Waes until about 2008/9, that had a local plate so may have been a retail sale. PiperCub
Not my bag but had a boss who ran an L or M-reg diesel and he loved it, mind you he used to own old FX4 taxis!A chap I worked with years ago also had a diesel estate, I think that was L-reg too, he swore by it too, claimed some impressive economy figures (which I doubt given the way he trashed it). The diesels had Perkins motors if I recall. Think the last/latest reg'd one's would be those sold of by the MoD, remember an article in Car Maniacs mag in the late nineties where they bought an ex-MoD diesel saloon and one of them ran it. dollywobbler
I'd try the AR Online Facebook page. Worked for the chap selling my Rover. He got a buyer within hours! Though the purists will grumble about the wrong grille being fitted and that it's that sort of thing that led to the downfall of the British Motor Industry... fordperv
i thought the downfall of the british motor industry was down to the fact they were throwing motors together on the production line with anything they had to hand lovely looking motor glws

GLWS.Tis a great-looking car in a great-looking colour, I agree. However it's Flame Red, which replaced Targa in 1989...
rml2345
It has a groovy brown interior too. Headlining could probably be pinned, or swing by for a quote to Axminster the ruddy fuck out of it.I think the gold grill was red originally so you might be able to restore it. GLWTS! eddyramrod
