Stupid names, stupid cars, stupid people.

It occurred to me today whilst sitting behind one in traffic on the A12, the Nissan Micra "Tempest" is possibly the one of the least apt named cars ever produced.According to my dictionary Tempest means "violent storm" .No, it's nothing like one. Apart from wet.Mitsubushi Carisma is another. Dull as a wet Tuesday night in Basildon. And it's not even spelt right. Twats.Any others?

When I used to work at a marketing agency many moons ago, we were the main agency for Nissan North, so ended up soming up with 'Special Edition' names, Some were - The Nissan Micra 'Dot', The Micra 'Wave' (yes honest, and I had to present this at meetings to sales managers, who actually didnt 'Get it'), The Sunny 'Tropic' and the Micra 'Ally', Which came about as it was the account managers name, and we couldn't be arsed to think of anything else. All were dealer special editions of the stripes and sunroof type, still makes me laugh when you see the odd Micrawave bezzing about delivering pizzas

Renault did the Be Bop editions on Clio'sBebop or bop is a form of jazz characterized by fast tempos and improvisation based on harmonic structure rather than melody.Certainly didn't sum it up for me, more base model pov spec with a sticker and some wacky coloured seats.....

Did you get the VW Polo/Golf Pink Floyd and Rolling Stones?

The 205 came in Accent (allo? it is I...), Génération, Forever (it's a French car, idiots!), Colorline, Magnum, Gentry, Mint, Trophy, Junior, Hawaii, Jubilee... a non-special edition is way more special nowadays!

And how about the Opel Astra Tailgate?

Escort/Fiesta Popular.... anything but, since if you ended up with one of these you were instantly identified as either a skinflint, or the lowest-earning salesman in the company.

Also the resurrected Escort Mexico... exactly what did that have in common with the original? Wasn't it just a 1.4 povvo-spec Mk5 with some cheap-looking 14" alloys and a rear spoiler?

I'm always pleased to see a Toyota Hiace Power Van, because it sounds really tough. I would love one, on the basis that people would think I am really tough by association.

I've had a couple of dodgy ones -

The Lada was 'Hiker'

My X2 Pony was simply called 'Special Edition'

Fiesta 'Matisse'

Fiat Panda 'Bianca'

Fiat Panda 'Dance'

Nova 'Plus+'

I also nearly bought a Seat Marbella 'Jeans' complete with denim interior

Best one was the Samara ----- 'FLYTE'

Looked sporty - but wasn't

Metro 'Gala' circa 1983Fiesta MK2 'Holiday' circa 1988 Renault 21 (and poss 25) 'Manager' (French market only)Citroen BX 'Digit' - electronic dash, similar to Renault TXEs.There was a Metro 'Principles' (clothes shop tie in) - Ford responded with the Fiesta 'Dash' (80s leisure wear brand). Fairly sure someone did a 'Fila' as well, poss Ford in the USA.Never got the Volvo 940 Wentworth - tie in with a golf club maybe? On the same theme Toyota UK did a Carina (88-93 model) 'Matchplay'.I never got the Micra 'Ally' - was it meant to have alloy wheels Volks? Off to watch Clarkson crash a Renault 'Magumn' through a wall.....

Yes. Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and Genesis were the accompanying editions for each of the band's Germany tours which Volkswagen promoted.
I have a tale to tell here! I'm a long time Genesis fan. I bought a brand new Polo Genesis back in 92. My Wife subsequently secretly arranged for me to collect the car at the Genesis gig at Knebworth in August 1992. When we got in it to drive home, there was a also a band signed concert programme sitting on the front passenger seat!

Clearly a man of taste!! I'm a long time fan too (seen them 5 times between '76 and '91) and do rather envy you that little tale, though I've got to be honest and admit that I'd never heard of the Polo Genesis.
