rml2345
The VOC isn't bad for getting ideas if you can wade through 12 pages of "What code is it?" And "You should ALWAYS search the forum first! Why oh why oh why..." etc.

Shep Shepherd
The high level brake light should be attached to the tailgate's interior trim panel with screws. At least it is on The Volvo and The Wentworth. Has the trim panel itself come adrift of its mounting clips, which would also cause the brake light to come away from the window? This is a very common problem caused by the holes in the panel that the [tailgate mounted] clips go into becoming enlarged/broken from years of the tailgate being slammed shut. There is a repair kit available cheaply to remedy this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VOLVO-TAILGATE-PANEL-REPAIR-KIT-700-740-760-900-940-960-850-V70-/281337102825?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AVolvo&hash=item4180ff81e9 I have such a kit waiting to go on The Wentworth after I replace its faulty rear wiper motor. I fitted the very same kit to both The Volvo and TV2 not long after I bought them to great effect DSdriver
daveb47
Thanks for that Shep, makes sense....Ordered Any ideas why rear wiper keeps stopping in center position? Shep Shepherd
Richard
Any ideas why rear wiper keeps stopping in center position? Spindle full of crud would be my guess. Mine eventually got so stiff it wouldn't move at all. It was relatively easy to strip down and clean/lubricate but I couldn't remember which side the wiper parked on and ended up with it on the wrong side. Shep Shepherd
^ Could also be that the self-park switch in the motor is faulty. Not sure how to go about fixing it, though. I'd go with cleaning/lubricating the wiper spindle before trying anything drastic, as it's an easy/free job.
daveb47
Got wiper motor out & spindle was seized, currently soaking in plusgas. Now trying to get rear door panel off to sort locking, but cant work how to get winder handle off, dont want to force it.Anyone know how it is fixed. brickwall
Locks and door handles and buttons can be the worst jobs of all. Good luck.
daveb47
Managed to get rear wiper sorted, spindle was seized virtually solid,Screwed stoplight back on,the screws had fallen out.Winder handle is actually held by screw in centre of it which is cover by clip on cover which some bright spark had superglued in place.A well aimed drill hole through it over screw allowed access for screwdiver.A good lube session and straightening of linkages sorted central locking. Next job, which i am not looking forward to is fitting towbar.Looks like i have to remove lower section of bumper or something. Tetleysmooth
Nice to see you're sorting out the little niggles Dave. I unsiezed the rear wiper myself when I had it, so it looks like it could be a regular thing. I also sorted the rear wash too. Where the rear lights are, the was a little valve to stop the washer fluid draing back. This was pissing water out, so I took it out and just joined the pipes, seemed ok afterwards. I couldn't be arsed with the rear door. Sometimes it'd work, sometimes not. Hope you're still enjoying the car though.
daveb47
Its running well, well pleased with it. Just found badly scanned Haynes manual for it,it is in english in spite of title.http://wuz.me/files/Volvo-940---Haynes-Manual-Auto-Repair---Fragmented.rar Also wiring manual http://wuz.me/files/volvo_940_owners_manual_1993.pdf
Lankytim
The towbar should be easy, the captive nuts for the bolts are already there and being a later model it should be pre wired. Just plug and play. Iirc if you put a fuse in a vacant slot you'll get a tell tale indicator light on the dash too.
Richard
Just make sure you run a tap through the captive nuts that don't have the lashing eye bolted to them.
daveb47
Fuckbag fucking volvo..............Fitting towbar, side with towing eye,no problems.Other side 3 holes,no fucking threads tapped, just blank holes.Managed to tap holes but what a nightmare to do,had to be side with exhaust.Towbar now fitted just wiring to sort.
