Father Ted
http://www.lep.co.uk/travel/Too-old-tax ... 4584472.jpPreston Town (no sorry, its not a bloody City, I dont care what the Queen says, they should have given it to Sheffield) Council are now set to ban taxis over 10 years old from the town centre - how long before they extend that to cars? Father Ted
HOW on earth can a council (Blackpool & Preston in this case) posibly legislate that its an offence to display a for sale sign in your car window when its parked up.Sorry BfBC (Blackpool f'kin Borough Council) but if my car is taxed, insured and legally parked then there is nothing you are going to do to stop me putting a note in my window, so you can take your laminated f'kin notices that you keep sticking under my windscreen wiper and knoob the f'k off

r.welfare
The sales stuff sounds like an extension of the Kent Act to me.Not sure what the fuss is on Preston, I'm pretty sure most County/Town Councils won't dish out (or renew) a Hackney Carriage licence if the motor in question is >10 years old anyway. Although I did see some Pikey People Carriers (i.e. early 90's Lucida/Estimas) with "Taxi" signs on the roof in deepest darkest Wiltshire earlier in the week. Pillock
Hmmmm. I still see Carina minicabs floating around on a friday night, mid-90s ones so I'm pretty sure we haven't got the same silly rules. And I know there's a guy with an Escort estate on an R plate too.We also seem to have the opposite end of the scale, with 08- and 58-plate Mondeo estates in full black and white livery running as hackney cabs. From the wheels I think they're decent spec too so thats, oooh, £20k or so? Just to have people throw up in the back. And because they're liveried you can't even run it as your daily motor without getting laughed at.We had something in the paper about cars for sale at the side of the road, and it seems the council are clamping down on actual trading - i.e. four or five cars parked along the road all with the same mobile number in the window, and when one goes it gets replaced with another. But not sure they have a leg to stand on if you're just selling your car, that you own/tax/insure.

Wales) did get annoyed about the preponderance of Ladas being taxis in their borough in the early 90s, don't think they did anything about it beyond moaning, though. garycox
I don't think ther's any taxi age restrictions where I'm from (Bexley), my uncle is a cabbie and uses a P reg Mondeo Mk 1. A couple of years ago he was using a white L reg 405 estate so they don't seem to mind how old it is as long as it's safe and reliable.

Cavcraft
Black cabs and mini cabs are two different things as far as rules are concerned I think. The age thing is a worry though if they're using pollution as an excuse because before you know it mini-cabs and Joe Public's older cars will be banned too.Regarding car sales at the side of the road traders can be licenced to do so (they are round here) but maybe some councils are different?I doubt many councils are too worried about private sellers if it's not a regular occurrence, or a road where the world and his wife have cars for sale.Father Ted: Is that white BX diseasel estate taxi still going round Blackpool? Tried to get it about 3 years back but my missus spied her bum and made us get the bus instead.

I will respond to that picture in the way I always do, with SHEER ENVY.Hirst Cabs will be responding to the popular Christmas/New Year period with a star lineup though, so keep your eyes peeled (or listen for badly blowing exhausts and crackly mono speaker 1970s MW hits). So, A-Z Cars - watch it! Father Ted
Father Ted: Is that white BX diseasel estate taxi still going round Blackpool? Not any more - it was offered for sale through the wolds shonkyest purveyor of tat - Belle Vue Garage - AFAIR it had done over 350K and was a little frayed round the edges. There is a silver one seen bouncing down Central Drive quite often, I feel the need to pull it over and tell the owner about Westroen.Sheffield's not a city? Why can't Preston be a city then?Have you been to Preston?Bus station at one end of the town, railway station at the other, ring road that actually goes right through the town - population slightly in excess of Bude in Cornwall and no night life to speak of unless you want to go to Squires Its got a glorified polytechnic and about eleventybillion students and thats about it really. Oh and the proposed Tithebarn regeneration project has once again been put on ice due to no body wanting to invest in the town.In 2000 there were about 4 or so towns that were vying for City status from the Queen - and Preston got it We also got higher council tax bills as they had to reprint the stationery and the vans.We have at least got Preston North End footy club, though since the departure of David Moyes its not been doing as well. The occasion was marked when the Queen visited during her Golden Jubilee celebrationsNot quite sure why Preston Council should use a picture of Sharon Coopers shop to promote the town.[/img]
