Found some rust

I think it was used by a florist or a nursery or something. The metal it's made of is really shite. The way it's rotted is unlike any other car I have seen. Got the inner wing rebuilt and the rest of the wing done. Just got to finish the bottom where it meets the valance. Got some nice deep dish Escort steelies to go on it thanks to Mike 8)

Finally got the time and the weather to get some primer into the Pony today. Managed to adapt a Mitsubishi wiper motor to fit it and have treated the fuel tank with some internal sealer so hopefully that'll be leak free now. I've just got to rub down and paint the wing, paint the fuel tank and re-fit it then it's on the road. It'll still need boat loads of welding for another test but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it.

That is remarkable. Nice work Ratdat. My dad called in a favour I owed him by asking me to weld up his rotted-out galv steel coal bucket yesterday, almost made me jack in welding for all time. I fannied about a bit burning some big holes in it, then agreed to pay the £15 or so to buy him a new metal bucket.

With all the Datsuns (and now Renaults) you've owned I find it quite amusing that the Pony has rotted unlike any car you've seen. The work on that wing is exemplary. I've recently restarted (again) to practice my welding skills - its a slow and very demoralising experience....

Finally got some paint on the wing today. I managed to keep the rain off it for long enough I hope :? Not exactly a good colour match but I mixed it out of some Nissan Cherry red I had left over from doing Bernies N12 with a bit of Audi black mixed in it. It'll do for now.

Finally managed to fix the fuel tank too after welding up a zillion holes and soldering it unsucessfully, I used some stuff called Tank Cure inside. After sanding it bare, I painted the outside with two coats of black POR-15 followed by two more of some stuff called Tie-coat which is a primer designed to go on POR-15 and finally a couple of heavy coats of black 2K. No signs of leakage so far so it looks like a good result at last.

Just got to get some tax and the old shitter is on the road. The rest of the welding can wait for a bit until I have some indoor space to do it.

I also scored some fat slot mags for it . I can't help but think it needs bubble porthole windows in the canopy to go with them

One thing that was a bit gutting was the weekend before last I was sat at a red light in Lincoln when I saw an identical one to mine cross the junction in front of me and it was absolutely mint! Knowing my luck it'll pop up for sale for peanuts just as I finish piecing my heap back together.

Looks absolutely cracking! Seriously, I reckon you should do a full restoration on it, it'd look so ace minted up. I love it!

Sadly it's pretty ropey inside as well... the dash is pretty tatty as is the rubber floor and the seats. Blue interior in a red truck though ...GR8 if UR colourblind  I've got some cheap old fake sheepskin seat covers to go on it.
