What shite have you driven?

Recommended Posts

Disregarding cars you currently own, what shite/classics have people driven - even only a short distance?

I realise for some people it's gonna be a vey long list

But I thought it would also be interesting to see by implication what cars we haven't yet driven.

My list:

Citroen Visa 17D

Citroen LNA

Citroen DS (early, Slough built)

Citroen CX Mk I GTi

Citroen Ami 8 Break

Citroen Acadiane

Citroen ZX 19D Break

Renault Clio MkI

Renault 5 MkII Auto

Renault 6

Renault 16

Renault 18 Estate (hardly counts - I was trying to help my friend move it from up against the wall of his flat, but if we selected reverse, we got 1st - however many times we both tried!!)

Peugeot 504 Ti Auto

Ford Fiesta MkII

Ford Escort MkIII

Ford Escort MkIV

Ford Mondeo MkI

Austin Allegro 1100 ('75)

Austin Allegro 3 1300

Austin Allegro 3 1750 Estate

Austin Metro MkII (round a field!)

Hillman Super Minx

Saab 95 - orange 8)

Lada Riva (H reg, and still smelt like new inside!!)

Nissan Micra K10 998cc (manual and auto)

I've owned none of the above! I've only had the GSA and two BXs.

Cheers,

Mark.

I imagine the bulk of what I've driven wouldn't be of much interest (loads of very ordinary middling 90s/00s cars), so without further ado, the least dull cars I've driven and not owned.- Buick Century V6: Wallowy as hell and surprisingly lacking in power for a big engine, enjoyed it though! Nice and gentle.- Ford Mondeo MK1 V6 24V: Lovely and smooth, surprisingly fast but I had no desire to drive it in that way, especially since it was incredibly low on fuel!- Toyota Carina E 2.0 CDX Auto: I know this shouldn't be here really, but hell, I think it deserves more respect. Superb car. Lovely punchy auto, I would definitely have one.I can't really think of anything else you'd find interesting to be honest. Motorized pallet shifter?

being a fast fitter for 14 years means i drove pretty much everything, best car had to be when i was first trinaing Bristol 402 beautiful car, beautiful sound..my previous over the last 7 years owned many more before getting into the net and camera craze, lots of minis, metros, meastros and montegos when yopu could get them for the cost of putting petrol in and driving home, usual amount of Mk3/4 Scorts and Orions, Afew Rennie 5's and had 2 Fuego Turbo's, once had 5 mint metros outside the house dont think i paid more than 50 for any of them... ahhh the days of old

Hmmm. Racking my brains here, but:1985 Mazda 626 2.0EGi coupe. Test drove but didn't buy. Nice car but in poor condition. I think this is the only car I've ever gone to see that I haven't actually bought...2 x Volvo 740GLE 2.3 saloons, 1985 and 1990 - my brother's. V. nice to drive h'actually. Oh, and his '92 Audi 80 2.0 8v, which was also very nice.'89 Golf Mk3 1.6. OK.'94 Golf Mk3 1.4. My wife's old car. Sloooow - but reliable. Some of my dad's old company cars I drove are now shite - 94M 405 2.0 auto estate, 92K 405 GRDT estate (sowed some seeds, perhaps...), 91H Sierra 2.0LX, 97R 306 1.6, 97R A4 1.8T, 99T Vectra 1.8 auto estate. The diesel 405 and Sierra were shite at the time...'92 Metro 1.1S. My mum's. Also her current '00 Honda Logo CVT. Which is a random driving experience.Courtesy cars: '00 1.1 106 - went well but not suited to someone with big feet; '02 Astra 1.6s x 2 (1 manual, 1 auto) - auto was better; '96 214i bubble - like the 106; '91 Jetta GTI 16v - superb Q-car; '95 Civic 1.5 auto saloon - lovely!'97 220D - chugger that I prepped for sale (new front wing); I also delivered the '00 Xsara 1.4 (metallic piss!) that replaced it. That was quite nice.Vans - a motley selection of Masters and Transits, but the one that sticks out is a new (03) LDV Pilot, which was a disaster, locking the back axle changing down from 3rd to 2nd.Stuff I have previously owned, chronologically:'84 Volvo 340 1.4, '89 Bluebird 1.8GS, '90 Volvo 440 1.7 (2 days in my ownership!), '84 Prelude, '92 Rover 214, '98 Civic, '84 Audi 80 quattro 2.1, '85 BMW 528i, '78 Fiesta 1.1L, '87 VW Jetta 1.6, '99 Accord 2.0 auto, '78 Opel Rekord, '79 Opel Rekord, '87 Belmont 1.8GLSi, '87 Senator 2.5, '93 Mitsubishi Sigma 3.0 estate, 56 Saab 9-3TiD (company car), '95 Omega Elite 3.0 estate, '87 Mazda 323LX, '84 Cavalier 1.6, '93 Cavalier 1.6, '80 Granada 2.3, '92 Rover 420, '94 Rover 820, '97 Peugeot 406L TD. Plus the other two 405TD estates that I have owned...Hire cars have all been new non-shite stuff - but a 1-litre Lupo (I was NOT happy) and a 1.4HDI 206 (frugal) stick in my mind. Oh, and the terrifically awful '05 Holden Commdore VZ 3.6 auto I drove 2000km in Oz on our honeymoon...Not really shite, but I drove a '98 BMW Z3 2.8 auto the weekend before last. Difficult to see out of (hood up), sat on the floor, "interesting" power delivery which I put down to the gearbox which apparently has sealed-for-life fluid. Also drove the old man's new Nissan Qashcard CVT at the weekend and I can't say I rave about it as much as him...

Not much of interest at all from me. Friends / family is all pretty mundane stuff and nowt to shout about. I suppose the odd pootle in my father's Volvo 760 Turbo was vaguely interesting, nice car that but just too much to justify the costs.... full-fat road tax and 20mpg thirst seemed a bit pointless to the olds, hence they 'repossesed' the 205 they'd bought my brother. Have had a long line of mainly terrible white vans & fleet shit for work, all of it has been dreadful, a Berlingo that used to lose ALL electrics at random, several trips to the dealer couldn't cure it, a Focus that lost the plot with just over a hundred miles on the clock, the current Astra that is just disgusting in all respects... the only one I liked was the old Mk3 Astra with the Isuzu dizzlar. Not the fastest thing outta the traps, but it was bulletproof, just wouldn't die. Much better handling than the newer ones too.

Christ, I'd probably fill a page of this thread on my own  A small selection of memorable motors that I've driven that weren't mine...1966 Prince Gloria. Fantasic old thing. An ex taxi with 400k on it and felt it.1971 Datsun Laurel 1800. Just gorgeous and one of my all time favourites.Fiat 127. Another car I'd happily own.Mk1 Escort 1300E. Can't understand hat all the fuss is about. V. average.Hillman Avenger. It was pink ...from the factory! I'd have one over an Escort.Mk3 Cortina Estate with a 3.1 V6. Fantastic motor albeit a bit wallowy.297bhp Nissan Pulsar GTiR. Mega fast but awful unpredicatable handling.Austin 3 litre. Lovely barge but not as nice as...Rover P5B coupe. Just lush. Damp, rusty and tired but just so classy.C10 Nissan Skyline GT-R race replica. Quite intimidating but felt just like my 510.Vauxhall Royale. V. cool motor... I'd probably have one myself.Volvo 850 T5R. Unruly madness!1963 Datsun Bluebird. Liked it enough to buy one for myself:lol: Really early Range Rover. Dismal heap of wallowing shite. Sounded nice though.Maestro van. Shite but I did rather like it.Lada Riva. Horrible car ..not my thing at all.MG Maestro. Brilliant fun unlike...MG Metro Turbo. Utterly underwhelming performance for a turbo.1980 Nissan President. Wonderful cruiser with reasonable go.Mazda RX3. Wierd power delivery but pretty sweet.1975 Cartier Edition MkIV Lincon Continental. Pimp!Austin J4 van. Unbelievably awful!1956 Austin A35 with a tuned 1275 Midget engine. Huge fun!Mk3 Triumph Spitfire with a tweeked 2.5 six. Terrifyingly unstable.Trabant. Just totally shit.Mk1 Carlton Estate. Curiously likeable old thing.Early Daf Variomatic Coupe. V. noisy but suprisingly fast! That'll do

I can't even begin to list the stuff I've driven, but for sheer awfulness the following shite is hard to beat;Allegro 1500 HLS - car was only about 5-6 years old when I drove it. Abysmal.Ambassador 2.0 VP Auto - A reg, will have been 1988 when I had a go. Hateful.Fiat Strada 1.0 - well, I think it was a 1.0. It was one of the early ones with separate switches for everything - i.e headlights on and headlights off had their own switches. Truly awful.Vauxhall Astra Mk1 1.2 - I can't stand most Vauxhalls anyway, and this just struck me as being the most hateful one I've driven.

Generally not many peeps i know drive a lot of shite, therefore i often drive their nice cars such as my mates old VX220 or Mitzi Evo.
