Reg's relics...as punctual as ever - a Bromley interlude!!

It's not easy to imagine a 'dumped' car in Malta, I can't see that it happens very often, as far as cars & what's driven goes there's so much an attitude of 'anything goes' or rather 'anything that can go, goes!'

Well, I stumbled across this oddity in a back road of Valletta - a dumped car complete with notice of impending removal for unroadworthiness! Incredible! Judging by plenty of other things, looks perfectly usable to me!

top spotssure the daewoo isn't a astra/kadett i dont remember daewoo using the astra/kadett lighting set-up, i thought they changed these, makes you wonder though?? does have daewoo door handles though.did they do the same with the cavalier (espero or whatever it was called) ??strangly i'll take the rapid

Plenty of Daewoo Racers on the previous pages both of the Vauxhall Astra MkII / Opel Kadett E and Nexia varieties. I'm taking it GM farmed out the design to Daewoo who based their original 'Racer' car on it before modifying it to give themselves the body shell of the Nexia which I think they still called the Racer initially (or in certain markets) before it became the Nexia as we know it.I didn't see any Esperos that I can recall but a handful of Vauxhall Cavalier MkIIs & Ascona Cs.

By this time light was fading & some of the narrow inner city roads were getting quite dark & shadowy. I can imagine that if you were that way inclined you could even find Valletta quite an eerie place after dark once the crowds have gone home & all the shops have shut. There appeared to be very few late bars or night venues, it's not that sort of place. It's too traditional to have any sort of night life, you'll find that along the coast at Sliema, St Julians & Paceville but not Valletta. Anyway, the labyrinth of ancient maze like streets away from the centre can be very dark in the shadow of the tall and high sided buildings even in daytime & the streets although usually very straight vary dramatically in steepness. Once nightfall descends, off the main streets the only sound you'll usually hear is the odd stray cat, a child playing in the street, or as the Maltese like to do, sit on the step with the TV set positioned outside on a chair or table (obviously a social thing! The weather helps!).

Now I've set the scene, on with the show!

Some of the K10 Micras over there are slightly different with recessed headlamps & rear lights that don't have a reverse segment!

Darkness was really beginning to set in by now. It was getting to the stage where only the cars in well lit areas were actually coming out ok & were worth snapping.

Wondered what on earth I'd stumbled across when I saw this, it looked to me like Lada Samara crossed with Renault 14, crossed with Citroen Visa, crossed with Renault Fuego! It turned out to be nothing of the sort - Lada was the closest guess!

This was my final picture that evening in Valletta as I had to get to the bus station to make sure I didn't miss the last bus back which was about 9:30-10:00pm.

These shots were then taken once back in Vittoriosa. I was quite dedicated to the cause that day, think this was the time I picked up most of my blisters!
