I still have loads more pictures to put up but considering I'm returning to Malta next week (with the potential for alot more spots, this time hopefully fresh blood in a new area of the country (such as it is) ) I may as well hold back & then return with a double/combined assault of pictures post Malta Pt II holiday! Although I will make sure it's obvious what was seen on which holiday, especially if I happen to come across something I saw previously.

In the meantime here are some interesting links for you to peruse I came across running along the same theme....

this bit's of most interest;

(I did actually spot one of those Dodge 50 fridge vans which you'll see eventually on here)

a gallery of cars & trucks in Malta;

lots more shots showing cars, even just in the background, amongst all of these general Malta pictures by town / area;

Enjoy :)

As promised  ......

These were taken immediately following the last ones I put up in the autumn

A slightly mistimed Regata from the bus on the way into Sliema;

Posted Image

The following 3 were seen from the comfort of a seafront café in Sliema;

Seat Terra van

Posted Image

Fiat Uno MkI

Posted Image

Montego

Posted Image

Daihatsu Charade MkI (phase 1). These were surprisingly ubiquitous!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Peugeot 305 phase 1. 305's were much less common, only saw a handful in the fortnight, this the only early one I can recall seeing...

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

Anyone for a Cappuccino?? I don't think I'd get one leg in it!

Posted Image

For Pogweasel....it's Metro time!

Posted Image

That Montego again with alongside what I always thought looked like a Datsun Violet saloon from the rear but was an Isuzu Diesel according to the badging. An early Gemini?

Posted Image

and from the front....

Posted Image

One of those Chevette based things?

Right, I'm off out. Definitely more soon. Tomorrow in fact. Promise.

On the seafront side of the Gemini in the last picture we have...

MkIII Escort & a lovely pink Seat Marbella

Posted Image

in front of that an SDCPTC (sun dried cat piss tarp challenge)

Posted Image

Another Seat Marbella & a lovely beige Mazda 323 MkII saloon (just realised what a closely resembled front grille / light arrangement they have!)

Posted Image

A proper white Fiat Panda Mk II (or Mk I facelift!?). Spot the MkI Uno & Hyundai Stella in the background!

Posted Image

A 4x4 no less!

Posted Image

The Uno & Stella as mentioned

Posted Image

Posted Image

That's it for the Sliema chapter! :D

My mistake, that wasn't the last of Sliema, it's just the pictures were out of sequence. Still on the 19th Aug & this time walking along the other direction of the seafront...

Daihatsu Applause

Posted Image

One of those ugly 323s & an attractive 205 sandwich a dull K11

Posted Image

Isuzu Gemini saloon

Posted Image

Posted Image

Vauxhall Cavalier MkII saloon. All Cavaliers / Asconas were thin on the ground. Although unsurprisingly more plentiful than over here now!

Posted Image

Honda Civic Mk III (?) & Daihatsu Charade MkI

Posted Image

Snazzy late original style Panda

Posted Image

Daewoo Racer

Posted Image

Right that's definitely the end of that Sliema section!

Guess what? We're still in Sliema & it's still the 19th Aug!

Another Isuzu Gemini saloon

Posted Image

Maruti Gypsy

Posted Image

Just caught this 305 van on the move

Posted Image

They put a lot of effort into their ice cream vans over there! They're often fully fledged lorries like this Ford Cargo

Posted Image

Dare I say it? The end of Sliema this time...

Only saw two R18s in Malta, this one during the first holiday in August & one other during the second holiday in November.

This one was seen earlier in the thread / holiday when I spotted it from on high & took a picture on full zoom looking down onto it from above on the high road. We got the boat back across from Sliema to Valletta & I was delighted when I realised that the boat pulls in to a jetty right next to where the R18 was parked so I was able to get some proper close ups of it! It's a delightfully ratty early example....

Posted Image

Posted Image

This humble 70s BL style Mini was just nearby too. My favourite kind is like this with the smaller rear lights minus reverse light

Posted Image

Posted Image

Just across the way was this R21 saloon, the R18's successor. I can't recall seeing many, if any, more of these either to be honest!

Posted Image

From on our way up to the top road...

Posted Image

Maruti Omni & Fiat Uno

Posted Image

Another basic Mini & another lovely beige 323 MkII

Posted Image

A tip of a Tipo!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Ibiza

Posted Image

A Maltese chav has ruined this Sierra estate. Very picture worthy though

Nice clean looking early (swallow tail?) MkI Golf. Another car in it's pre reversing light form!

Posted Image

Posted Image

It's 80s supermini alley! Much to Pogweasel's expected disgust, the MG Metro appears to be the best of the bunch!

Posted Image

MkI Fiesta with patches & MkII rear lights & Fiat Uno with mismatched tailgate

Posted Image

Posted Image

Probably the cleanest MkI Daihatsu Charade of the holiday!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Another MkI Golf in the same colour in the centre of the city

Posted Image

Posted Image

Posted Image

These things seemed to be the fashionable (lazy) way to get around Valletta. But then with a lot of narrow, congested, not to mention steep roads around the centre it's probably quite sensible!

Posted Image

Posted Image

Rare single rear door C15 van

Just got this Estelle. Nice wide roads in Vittoriosa

I'm going to rattle through these now or I'll be back in Malta before I've finished!

There was this particular road not far from where we were staying which appeared to have a few quality specimens so I took a detour down it to check them out. It was a no through road & it seems most of the vehicles on the street belonged to a sort of Maltese version of Mr Bickle!

Smart Datsun pickup - King Cab??

Posted Image

Posted Image

At the bottom of the road; Yugo 45 & Favorit

Posted Image

Another Skoda Favorit & Lada Riva estate

Posted Image

Looking back up the road, we have a 'supercharged' Fiesta MkII, something interesting under the tarp, a Ford A Series beavertail with something on the back that I can't remember, a Renault Dodge 50 or 75 recovery vehicle & Maltese Bickle himself who upon taking this picture I realised had appeared from his house & was watching me like a hawk! He looked like someone you wouldn't want to mess with, a sort of triad warrior type, completely bald apart from a long black pony tail! I made my way back up the road pretending not to notice, all innocent looking, he said to me: "You want to buy?", me imagining trying to squeeze some ratty MkII Fiesta into my suitcase..."Oh no thanks, just browsing!" Fortunately that was that!

Posted Image

This MkII Capri further up the street was the stand out vehicle for me!

Toyota Starlet MkI

The roof rack brigade!

Posted Image

The out & out shitiest car of the holiday was a Toyota Starlet seen when we went to Gozo, unfortunately I didn't manage to get a pic but the thing was barely moving & it was so sunken on it's back axle I bet it wouldn't have made it over a speed hump which thankfully the islands don't have! It was incredibly rough & scruffy looking, it was one of those cars you had to see to believe!
